- Granby Consolidated started construction of the town in 1912. By 1914, Anyox had grown to a population of almost 3,000 residents, as the mine and smelter were put into full operation; rich lodes of copper and other precious metals were mined from the nearby mountains. Granby Consolidated moved its copper mining interests here from Phoenix, British Columbia.

Copper was mined from the Hidden Creek and Bonanza deposits and smelted on-site. Coal to fuel the smelter was shipped from the company-built and owned town of Granby on Vancouver Island and Fernie in southeastern British Columbia.
Anyox had no rail or road links to the rest of British Columbia, and all connections were served by ocean steamers, which travelled to Prince Rupert and Vancouver.
The mine and docks were linked by 32-tonne steam and electric locomotives operating on three kilometres of railway.
Up to 5400 tonnes of ore were hauled from the mine to the concentrator near the waterfront each day, in 75 ore cars, powered by the energy provided from the hydro dam and coal fired generators. "
In the early 1930’s, The Great Depression drove down the demand for copper, which was effectively the beginning of the end for Anyox.

Might interest you to know there was a small exploration crew worked out of Anyox back in the early 1990's for the minig company Cominco. They spent a couple seasons there (yes I was part of that small crew) . On our days off we would explore the entire place, we even had an in-camp helicopter. Lived in barged-in Atco trailers on the shore of the inlet. Lots of awesome stories and sights and adventures from those two years.
Awesome video man! Really great to see you went there. I would say the top of the list for all abandoned places in Canada. I still feel lucky to be one of the few that have explored here. Worth every minute. Thanks also for the shoutout 👍
Thanks man and it's my pleasure to shout out the guys who inspired this trip!
Thanks Dave! Anyox has always been on my bucket list of places to visit and explore. However, you've done such a detailed job with this video that a visit may no longer be necessary for me which, given my advanced age, is definitely a good thing. I don't think I could manage it.
That cemetery is both sad and fascinating, and I'm glad you spent so much time on it.
Glad it was helpful!
This is one historic and awesome find Dave. I have never heard of it. This is awesome Dave. Thanks for bringing us with you to see this old site. Fascinating. Looking forward to Part 2.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wow, this has been a great in depth video. I really enjoyed the time you took to point out details. The before and after pictures really gave the whole experience more meaning. Loved it and can't wait to see #2.
So glad you liked it
Great video Dave! I really enjoyed the inclusion of all the photographs of the sites, even lining up many shots from the original angles. Looking forward to the second part!

Surreal really seems to be the best way to describe this incredible place. Thanks Dave, can't wait for part 2.
Loved the way you inserted the before pictures into the video. It’s fascinating to see how a place is taken over by nature.
Glad you enjoyed it!
