  • The world famous Tehachapi Loop from an aerial perspective!
    Was a long drive from home but a great trip well worth it!
    Z trains like this one seem to be the best catch to get around the loop as it's all easy on the eyes to see every bit of the train. Especially so with white containers. Got a few manifests here but the effect wasn't as good.
    All footage taken with a DJI Phantom 4

    That's what I wanted to see! Shows the elevation more than the cam can! Wow, I think the loop ismy most favorite train video! I knew there had to be a tunnel and now I have seen it! Thanks very much!

    You can see the problem that faced Hood once he got to where Woodward was located (I believe that's the watering location) while following Tehachapi Creek. Where to climb up next? The creek runs to the left of the rise without enough elevation gain available to cover the 77 feet needed to reach where Tunnel 10 is now located. So, I was able to see for the first time that the Loop architecture actually began where the railroad crosses the creek below the Loop itself, making the area even more impressive historically than before for me. Thanks for the new look of an old icon.

    Magnífico vídeo! Tehachapi é um lugar da Califórnia que eu ainda vou conhecer nesta vida, não só por gostar de Trens, mas principalmente porque esse lugar com esse Loop nos remete à infância, às lembranças, a pureza de um sonho visto de cima. Show de bola; a tecnologia nos trouxe o drone, daí essa beleza de imagens. Parabéns!

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  Před 3 lety +1

      To compensate for the already steep grade up the mountain. The loop keeps the grade more gradual.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes they did it to keep the grade more gradual so it wouldn't be too steep of a climb for a train. Even with this loop it's still a pretty steep grade.

    What is the purpose of the loop?

    • @goshisanniichi
      @goshisanniichi Před 4 lety +1

      To reduce the steepness of the incline thereby reducing the traction needed to climb it--or stop when descending. A gentler slope means they can pull more (and heavier) cars with fewer engines, thereby making it more cost effective.
