It's really starting to feel like the a new era of the Premier League is currently unfolding at the moment. Southampton going down. Possibility of Everton going down as well as Leicester going down which would be huge. Newcastle and possible United takeover. Arsenal resurgence after two decades of mediocrity. Chelsea struggling post Abramovich. Teams such as Brentford and Fulham getting promoted and comfortably staying up. Villa and Brighton coming out of nowhere and start pushing for European football. City and Liverpool both undergoing rebuilds after years at the top of the League. When you look at it from a neutral perspective it's very interesting to look at
Everyone’s saying ‘Southampton will come straight back up’. The vultures will be circling around that playing squad rn. The same happened with Stoke City when they were relegated and look where they are now.
Shout out to the Nottingham Forest board for keeping Steve Cooper when they realistically, couldn't find a better option. They didn't fall into the same trigger happy trap that many of the relegation threatened sides fell into this season. Hell, even those challenging for Europe made this mistake. This is a man that you spent over £100 million on in transfer fees, you might as well let him sink or swim with what you gave him.
Southampton is a cautionary tale for Brighton. Everyone thinks they are best run club in the world - and they have done mightily in their recruitment and scouting. But they need to be mighty shrewd in keeping their best talent. If their best players keep getting poached, there will come a season of underperformance, where the new players brought in aren't just as good, which could set them back and lead them to a spiral like the bottom table clubs.
It's gonna be weird seeing them not in the premier league. They have shown this season that they are good enough to stay in the league on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, inconsistency and not turning up against the teams around their position is what has cost them.
@The Padded Cell At times they can be good against top 6 teams, but they dont perform against fellow lower-table teams. They're extremely inconsistent that's what they were tryna say
@The Padded Cell not really. They have beaten Chelsea twice, drawn with spurs and arsenal twice and drawn with Man Utd. They have just been too inconsistent. They’re not saying they deserve to stay up. theyre saying they have shown moments of quality and good results to show they were capable to staying up.
Sad to see Southampton relegated. They drew twice with Arsenal this season, basically deciding the league and they also stopped City from winning the quadruple. Not to mention that they've done the double of a couple of teams like Chelsea this season. They have a fantastic squad and we hope to see them back a year from now
I’ve found this issue quite concerning over the last few years. Typically, Southampton play extremely well against the good teams and just give up against the less good ones. The players are so lazy against the likes of forest or palace or Brentford, so we always lose. This sounds crazy but I think we’ve always had greater chances of beating Man United than Everton over the last few years because of work ethics. Very sad :(
Shocking ownership this season, those at the top have to be held accountable for the “all or nothing” transfer policy and a shocking appointment in Nathan Jones
It'll be a massive struggle for Southampton to keep hold of their star men like Laiva & Ward Prowse. Tbh I wouldn't mind United signing either of these options as we need better quality in our midfield

I do agree that the ownerships have been the issue for most of the teams in the bottom half of the table but, it is surprising because for years Leicester and Southampton were praised for how well they were run and how they consistently got the best out of their players and competed with the big boys, and Southampton especially have been praised for how well they replaced their managers when a "bigger" club came circling. Unfortunately it seems both those clubs those good decisions and signings have both been lacking, also I guess it shows how on a knife edge every team is outside the top 6 or 7, Leeds, Southampton, Everton, Leicester, West Ham and Wolves have been in the top half in the past couple of seasons and yet we likely could lose 3 of them, and they will all finish in the bottom half. Brighton, Brentford and Fulham could all be one bad decision away from relegation next season despite how well they have been run.
