    The Metabarons (publisher description)
    A must-read cult spin-off of "The Incal," by Moebius and Jodorowsky, centering around the fascinating lineage of the ultimate warrior. This collection introduces the Metabaron’s bloodline and reveals the origins of their deep-seated principles. Find out the source of the family’s vast wealth, learn why every Metabaron has cybernetic implants, and why the only way to become the next Metabaron is for him to defeat his own father in a mortal combat. Follow each successive generation as it struggles to overcome the forces amassed against it in a galaxy corrupted by greed, power, and terror.
    A true classic in the pantheon of graphic storytelling and Science Fiction as a whole.

    Hi. Jim from Madrid, Spain (a fellow artist and a New Yorker expat living abroad).
    The metabarons are a great art piece from the weird and geniuos mind of the concept, but thanks to Juan Gimenez, the real artist behind the scenes, it would have never been what it has become (most other Artists afterwards have not been able to replicate the true original artwork - this was also said by it's conceptual creator).
    And yeah! I still don't understand why "Hollywood" has not made a real movie saga about it... (too many if's).
    Anyways... the Metabarins is an amazing family saga... and Gimenez's art work is incredible!
    Cheers from Sunny Spain!

    Currently reading the Beginner's Guide to Creating Portraits since I am learning 2D art and especially portraiture. In terms of reading for pleasure, I recently read the Song of Roland which was great. Working back through the European classics I wish I had read in school.

      It is. I appreciate it now that I'm older - visually it's really interesting with the framing of symbols / colour, etc. Have you ever seen The Fall by Tarsem Singh? It's a very different kind of movie, but visually you may enjoy it.

    I actually just recently finished reading The Deluxe Gimenez, a spectacular looking silver book containing two Gimenez stories, “the star conspiracy” and “the fourth power”.
    The stories were a little nonsensical, but the art was beautiful.

    Currently making my way through Joseph Campbell's "The Hero Of A Thousand Faces", which has been a great instructor in creating and understanding cohesive, masterful storytelling with his thesis of the monomyth and the transcendental nature of a hero character. I do wonder if Campbell's writings influenced Jodorowsky, especially with the trippy, symbolic nature of the transformative journey the hero takes once they cross the threshold.

    • @Steininger_Art
      @Steininger_Art  Před rokem +1

      Jodorowsky and Campbell are an interesting mash-up. What you bring up makes me think of a venn diagram with Jodorwsky in symbology and Campbell in archetypes and then what happens when they cross over. This is the beauty of this kind of work - you sit on it for a while. It's not just disposable entertainment.

    That would explain some of Jodorowsky‘s crazier ideas about Dune. I was wondering where the arm and leg chopping he had story-boarded for the Baron and Duke scene came from.

    Hey I really enjoy your work. I've read the bulk of Jodorowsky's graphic novels and absolutely love his stuff. His work and that of Moebius are my all time favorite. I would highly recommend the following: The technopriests, Megalex, The Incal, The silver surfer by Moebius. There are a couple excellent Sci fi series by Leo called Alderbaran and Antares definitely worth checking out.
    I really enjoy the scope of vision and the intelligence of the mythology put in these worlds, Jodorowsky is a visionary.
