    Again I did some research on Earp's grave and secret burial. His wife secretly buried him in the family plot after his death. The location of his urn was kept secret for many years. Josie's family was quite religious. After her death it was made known years later that Earp was buried beside her. Josie was smart lady. She wanted to be buried with him so she buried him secretly. Hugh O'Brien offered a reward for the return of one of the stolen gravestones. Kevin Costner offered to pay for the last replacement gravestones. Josie's family declined the offer and put the last one in place. If the cemetery is Orthodox all occupants must be Jewish. Some Jewish cemeteries affiliated with the Reformed Temples allow non Jewish mates to be buried with their Jewish spouses. Suzanne Pleshette - Jewish - and husband Tom Poston - non Jewish - are buried together in a Reformed cemetery.

      I love your knowledge about all of this. I guess the cemetery is non orthodox. That is so cool about O'Brien and Costner. I had never heard that. I loved hearing that Janis Joplin paid for the grave stone for Bessie Smith. Sad that Janis Joplin doesn't have a cenotaph, that I know of. She's my favorite all time female singer. Thanks for the research and for sharing. You are awesome!

      @@TheGraveyardChannel Well sir one thing I can assure you that his wife was not Jewish at all, because he was cremated in a church and believed in Jesus religion and his wife certainly did not go to synagogue or anything like it, there were no Jewish priests to cremate him or took him to a Jewish synagogue and did Jewish burial prayers and traditions etc- so who ever told you deceived you perfectly. Also, when she died no Jewish priest came and did Jewish burial or her or anything like it, all a deception. I have seen Muslims buried in Christian cemetery In UK Just Like Carl MARX is also buried in High gate Cemetery which is Christian cemetery and Carl Marx was no Christian.

    Colma has more dead bodies than live residents. Bonnie and Clyde have had their headstones stolen many times down in Texas. In all his years as a marshall Wyatt was never injured by gunfire. Colma also has a cemetary dedicated to circus performers. It is a very interesting place. I was fortunate to have seen Wyatt's first headstome.

    • @TheGraveyardChannel
      @TheGraveyardChannel  Před 5 lety +7

      Wow, thanks for sharing all of that great info. Where is the circus performer cemetery? Do you know the name? I've never heard of it and would like to visit. Thanks, William!

    • @williamgreen5410
      @williamgreen5410 Před 5 lety +6

      It's been over 20 years since I was in Colma but the Circus Performers Cemetery is in the Olivet Memorial Park. This is to the left of Wyatt's cemetery if I remember correctly. Colma's history is fascinating. Apparently it was founded in 1906 after the earthquake. The city didn't have a place to bury all the dead from the earthquake.so Colma was designated as the site.

      @TheGraveyardChannel  Před 5 lety +6

      @@williamgreen5410 Hi William, I drove through Olivet, but didn't have time to stop and look around. I will definitely look for this section of the cemetery the next time I am in Colma. If I find it I'll upload a video. Thanks, so much!

    One day about 10 years ago i was paying my respect to a close family friend who happens to be an NFL legend at Riverview cemetery in Portland and ironically stumbled upon Virgil Earp's gravestone. I had no idea he was laid to rest in Oregon.

    You're right. Most celebrity grave hunters just show the grave stone, not the area around it. It's so much better the way you do it. I wish Wyatt was buried in So Cal since he spent so much more time here. Oh well. The wife always wins. Thank you again for your efforts : )

    • @TheGraveyardChannel

      I read that after he died everyone was trying to find his grave because they wanted him buried in Tombstone, AZ. Once his wife died and it became known that he was buried with her in Colma, they decided to let him RIP where he was. It does seem like an odd place for his final resting place, though. It's a bit sad that the brothers and parents are all over the place. I don't know why, but I always like seeing families together. Thanks, as always, for the comment.

    Here is something that you may not have about Wyatt, he and his family moved to the Colton/San Bernardino area back in 1864 where he lived until he was able to travel like his brothers Virgil and James. Wyatt at the age of 16 was driving stage coaches and supply wagons around the area even down to Los Angeles. The Earp family, at random times during the times they lived there, had homes in San Bernardino, Colton, Redlands and Temescal Canyon. Virgil Earps' home in Colton still stands to this day.

I'm an early bird and always get to cemeteries when they open at 7:30 or 8:00 am, which is when many of the critters come out for breakfast :-)

      Jesse James original headstone was taken one chipped off piece at a time by tourists and groupies. When I saw it twenty some odd years ago. It was worn down to the size of a brick, from it's original size of almost five feet tall, very gothic and two or three feet wide. I think that had a lot to do with Frank being cremated.

Billys headstone was stolen twice, look it up. The history of graves was that after the big earth guake they moved south to Colima. Hense no grave in San Fran. Also the old stones were tossed in the bay and are part of the footing for the Golden Gate bridge. With so many cemeteries in this small town they have t-shirts that say, 'It good to be above ground in Colima.'

    Hi Steve. Just a quick note on Wyatt Earp. I have been a long time fan of Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, Morgan and Virgil Earp. In the very early 1950s as a school boy; I was an avid fan of the TV series The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp. In fact; I have the DVD,s of that show and watch it frequently at last four or five times a year. I also know a fair bit about Judaism as my best friend in the Army was Jewish, and taught me a lot about their customs. Jewish people DO NOT permit Cremation. When they die; they (The Orthodox Jews and Liberal Jews will make certain that their loved on is buried as soon as possible after death. A friend of mine lost his son, who was drowned, They did not find the boys body until 9 pm that same evening in a lake that was over 100 imperial miles from where his family lived. His body was conveyed to the undertakers by 11.00 that night and around midnight, I was standing at the Jewish Cemetery (The Chevra Kadisha) when the buried the lad. I was close friends of the lad's parents and attended the funeral. I was surprised when I learned that Wyatt Earp was cremated and buried in a Jewish Cemetery. All I can think of is that Sarah Marcus must have been a Progressive Jewess, which in other words is an ultra liberal person. No Orthodox or Liberal Jew will cremate a loved one and their Code of Jewish Law states the body MUST be interred as soon as possible after death. Hope this is of some help.

The cemetery itself had two or three stations within the grounds .

    It seems that if Silent Era Western icon George Mix was one of Wyatt Earp's pallbearers, a pallbearer of his _casket,_ then his beloved wife, Mrs. Josephine Earp, whom survived the great man by about 15 years (according to the headstone shown there), must've had his remains exhumed, then cremated and his _urn_ relocated to her future resting place to lay next to her. This leaves the question: What cemetery where was Wyatt Earp's casket originally buried in before his remains were relocated to his present final resting place? ??? czcams.com/video/VpzLQ8Fg1CE/video.html
    Yes, History is full of stories, even detailed stories. I wonder what were/are the details of his posthumous relocation, beyond those mentioned.

  • @jebidiahnewkedkracker1801

    Someone managed to steal the cement bust of The Doors' lead singer Jim Morrison who is buried at Pere LaChaise cemetary in Paris, France. In addition his gravesite attracted a lot of visitors that "decorated" his grave and many of the SURROUNDING graves as well. I would think by now, that cemetary has taken measures to prevent that from happening including very harsh penalties for scofflaws who may get caught.
    Colma cemetaries, (of which Hills Of Eternity is only ONE), have been subject to vandalism over the years--including magnificent statues and mausoleums that were very nice to look at. So it's no surprise to me that Wyatt Earp's headstone would be stolen or damaged.
    This video is interesting in that I always thought Wyatt Earp was buried in Woodlawn Cemetary (just down the road from Hills Of Eternity)
    I guess I was wrong.😐

    Stealing tombstones is mighty low, all right. However, I have known of at least three cemeteries in my area which have been vandalized, including the one where my own plot is at. Some years ago, jerks drove a jeep into it, and really messed up about a quarter of it before the vehicle finally became hung-up one some larger monuments. You probably won't be shocked to hear they were stone drunk.
    A side-note on Wyatt Earp is that a writer named ed Earl Repp(1901-1979) is reportedly the last person who conducted an interview with him. Repp wrote many western novels, and about 50 western films (GALLOPING THUNDER, 1946; THE LONE HAND TEXAN, 1947, etc.) mostly in the post-WW2 years. He also published quite a bit of science fiction, which he was astonished anyone remembered he remarked shortly before his own death. Repp would no doubt be even more amazed to know that additional works of his sci-fi have continued to re-appear over the past decade or so.
    Great video, Steve, and very pretty cemeteries there. I hope that WAS firecrackers - the sound came through quite easily.
