Rod is thinking.
Whatever you say, Rod.
FAQ:
Q: What is this?!
A: The song is an orchestral mix I made of the Club Leader Duel theme from the Pokemon Trading Card Game for Game Boy. The video is a sped-up replay of a duel against grandmaster Rod, aka the "final boss" of PTCG:GB with my Doll Factory deck.
Q: How did you make this?
A: FL Studio 10 for the song, VBA for the footage, Sony Vegas Movie Studio for the video compilation
Q: Where can I download the song?
A: You can get a high-quality version of the song for free from my soundcloud, linked above.
Q: How long did this take?
A: The song took 10 hrs 43 min according to the FL Studio project file, worked on it on and off for about two weeks.
The replay match took about 6 minutes (condensed to 3). Matches with this deck take long but you can guarantee a win.
Getting the cards to make this deck took roughly 60 hours of game time on an emulator (though at least 75% of that was fast-forwarding through the game's unfathomably slow animations)
Q: Why does Rod do nothing?
A: Because the AIs in PTCG:GB assume you're never going to run a no-energy stall deck, and don't know how to use Charizard. Overall the AIs make very poor decisions and their decks are terrible, but this deck in particular is a combination of OP and confusing to the AI.
Q: What is in that deck?
A: Here's the decklist:
4x Zapdos L64 (base set)
4x Chansey L55
4x Snorlax L20
4x Pokemon Trader
4x Clefairy Doll
4x Mysterious Fossil
4x Switch
4x Pokemon Center
4x Scoop Up
4x Defender
4x Item Finder
4x Gust of Wind
4x Potion
4x Gambler
4x Recycle
Q: I used to play the Pokemon TCG, how does that deck even work with no energy
A: Chansey walls damage + psychic, Snorlax walls status (nidoking) + psychic, zapdos walls fighting which otherwise destroys chansey/snorlax. Clefairy Doll / Mysterious fossil buy you at least a turn each against non bench-shock decks, recycle + itemfinder means you play them over and over and over, pokemon trader lets you get the mons you need, scoop up switch and pokemon center work together to mass-heal any damage you take, gust for stall, potion/defender for touch ups. Prioritize keeping chansey out, scoop/switch if it hits low health (or let it die, but be careful to not give too many prizes). Just stall, stall stall until your opponent draws out their deck. If you get close to running out, gambler shuffles your hand into your deck or recycle can add a card. The only counter I've run into was Lass, which I think one or two people in the entire game run. - Hry
Is it just me, or is this the perfect boss theme for Professor Oak?
Damn, you just blew my mind buddy! I'm making this my head cannon now. Thank! :D
There's a sentiment of determination and control to the melody, it’s imposing but not bombastic. It was made to suit a confrontation with a “master” of their field. Like Prof Oak.
Criminally underrated remix, this needs more views! Felt incredibly epic and love the title.
Just FYI, this remix is one of my favorite songs of all time, no exaggeration. I listen to it all the time.
Awesome remix! At first I was confused about what was happening in the duel, until I realized you were on track to win by deck-out. And then that ending, throwing everything back into the deck with Gambler... Epic. xD I would personally also add Moltres to that deck since it's got a mill attack.
Great remix for possibly one of the most overlooked pokemon games ever and I love it.
It took a while for the remix to grow on me, but other than that, I like the subtly of the music. That deck you had in the vid was genius, I would never have thought of using chanseys, clefairy dolls, scoop up, and pokemon center in that way. I am not even sure how I would beat it. Cool vid.
Me neither. If I ever play this game again, I will certainly being using this insane stall deck.
This only thing I hate about this song is that it ain't long enough. Because this is a masterpiece...
If they are ever to make a new Pokemon TCG, I hope they contact you about using this remix for a "classic" duel with one of the original characters. Great work!
The more I listen the more I like it :D
This sounds like something that should for sure be in, like, the next big Pokemon Stadium game or something.
A masterpiece. Well done.
You did a great job! I hope it finds its way into a pokemon movie one day.
Dewgong : 3 Water Energy / Aurora Beam / 50 damage
The most quick-kill OP evolution card of the first series generation.
Best evolution card for me has been Exeggutor. Big Eggsplosion is just too ungodly…
Also Seaking: 2 water energy / waterfall / 30 damage
great for just sweeping basics early game
This is an astoundingly excellent remix of this theme.
OMG, this is good
Space Sci-Fi epic movie vibes
I enjoyed this
This remix is GODLY!!! Could I use it as background music in a future video of mine?
Go for it! Link back to the song in the description for bonus points!
This is amazing!
I want to ask, if I can use your remix for my RPG Maker Project. I would give credits.
*****
I don't think so, because there are thousand's of fangames created with the RPG Maker and Nintendo doesn't cares about them.
Maaaaan awesone, truly EPIC!
The chorus is great, but it could use a bit more work.
don't the Grand Masters have a different battle theme? not that Im complaining
correct, the grandmaster duel is a different song than the one featured
This remix honestly fits the grand masters far more than the club leaders.
