Not sure if the same Moltres but Dive Bomb while this song was playing was intense for me and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the 50-50 hit chance of the move
The song starts out smug and side eyeing you, it knows that its bad ass. Transforms about a quarter of the way reminding you that this is bad ass territory.
This theme will always be Courtney's. And perhaps Rod's. The description you gave it sums up those smug ass side looks they give you in their character portraits. The sequel to this game even gave them smug emotes when they're either winning or they draw a good card.
That beat change at 1:23 was crazy as a 12 year old ha ha I love the 8 bit era, they had to really make sure the music was small enough to fit the cartridge and create something in the matter of size.
when this music starts up, you know you're in for an epic battle.... then you win by default because the Grand Master only managed to put one weak pokemon on the field and you beat it on the first turn...
I won last night against final boss Ronald with the Colourless Energy Jolteon and lucky plays. It was actually quite a tense fight because I was trying to dig for my other mons. 3 Oaks in the deck and I didn't hit one.
Man, you don't know how relieving it is to hear that other people struggled against Courtney. Played the game just now for the first time in years and swept through everyone with brutal beatdowns and energy control... Except for her. If I hadn't gotten lucky with confusion on her Moltres, it would have just run through me before I could get anything going....
I've just gone back to the game after years of not playing it because it came out on the game boy player on the switch. I beat all the champions on my 1st attempt with my deck although the 2nd champion came the closest by far to beating me since he's zapdos attacks kept landing on my pokemon but still won in the end. The others never came close inc courtney.
The best track in the game and it still holds up to this day for 8 bit goodness. Starts off slow as it should as both players draw their cards and begin their plans and set ups, then picks up as the duel goes on and things start having more pressure to it.
I feel like this theme needs to return in one way or another. It is a masterpiece, starting out with a solid rhythm and then turns into a intense climax. Maybe bring it back while introducing some sort of extra post-game challenge outside of battle facilities. At this point I'm just looking for even more challenging battles. (With multiplayer having a lot of Pokegenners, cheaters & hackers, I don't give a damn about playing any PvP.)
Five years ago I commented on this apparently... and even with my 15 month old son I snicker at Gyarados's 3-energy-card dragon rage. 50 damage within 2 turns was phenomenal. Poliwrath's Whirlpool was a dominating force thanks to its secondary ability of washing away an energy card. That's all I needed.
@@palm0607 Not because of Blastoise, which is *until this day*, one of the best ace cards a Water deck can have? Seriously, other types *wish* they could ever have an ability like Rain Dance.
@@WH40KHero Oho, yes for sure. It and Yu-gi-oh are still alive and kicking. Right now, they´re adding Pokemon-V and -VMax cards to the game, together with content from Sword & Shield. Picked it up again recently, and I must say I didn´t anticipate such a difference in depth from back then. Nothing compared to the 4D chess that is modern Yugioh, but it got more tactical depth now than "play strong basic, rush with energy and strong attacks".
+Guan Yu Lmao know that feeling so good!!! I specially remember the first duel vs greta, where she was getting a shit load of energy out of moltres passive and I was like: Damn this is getting hectic hahaha
This song was everything !!!!! When courtney would play Moores and use those its effect it always happened when the song picked up......I was like I gotta fight back !!!!! Memories :)
Pokemon TCG was one amazing game, i played it quite a lot, maybe my third most played GBC game, after Pokemon Gold and Zelda Links Awakening DX... GBC games had surplrisingly great soundtracks, i wish Nintendo released some arranged or remastered versions
Funny thing is, the way the coin lands is preset. If you play the game with savestates, you'll notice that loading won't help, because the coin will ALWAYS land on the same side.
I finally got around to playing and beating this game again. The old water deck I used seemed to work, and after a few deck tunings, I was able to wipe the floor with every trainer and grandmaster with ease. I guess that's what comes from 10 added years of logic, knowledge and experience. Still had a rough time trying to manage without the key cards early on.
I never got a chance to make it this far in the game as I would get my ass kicked towards the end every time, but this song goes so hard. Perfectly fitting for the tougher/toughest boss or bosses.
By this point in the game, I went on a huge card collecting marathon. I built 5 decks, each with specific types to take down the Grandmaster's decks. I was able to run through them in about 10 turns each.
I always associate this song with Courtney. Also, this theme should be reused, I love the main pokemon game soundtracks but none of their battle themes have ever bested this one.
its been so long since i played the game... thinking back i now remember that i couldnt play it cuz whenever i saved it would just start new files:'( i never got past the second grandmaster either...
lol, the Electric guy (can't remember his name) was so easy. EVERY TIME all he would get out was has Zapdos and I would kill it before it got enough energy XD
I got a promo Meowth card when I bought this game new when it came out (the GB meowth card from this game), the reason being is that Meowth is a popular poke'mon in Japan. I hope this info was helpful.
In my play through on my game boy, I had actually beat rod before he could get his dragonite out and beat Ronald before he could set up the legendary birds
i can't hear this song without hearing the sound of Courtney's Moltres moving fire energy around in my head
Me too (; _ ;)
😆 eww
EXACTLY!!!
Bro that was my favorite card from them, cause I had a spicy charizard deck
Not sure if the same Moltres but Dive Bomb while this song was playing was intense for me and I don’t know why. Maybe it’s the 50-50 hit chance of the move
Literally one of those hardest tracks put into a handheld game cartridge
Still the most intense 8 bit song of all time... alongside the lance battle theme in Pokemon Gold and Silver
Check gym leader intro. Its epic
Better than the Lance theme imo
It was this game that made me wonder: “Why the hell doesn’t the gen 2 music have a beat?”
Very few songs after Gen 1 and TCG even come close to the pump I get from the gym leader/Gary/four masters themes.
I dunno about that. Ever heard the Silver Surfer NES soundtrack?
This song slaps so fucking hard. Kind of wild it’s 8 bit. Truly a masterclass of music. The progression is subtle but builds up nicely.
The orchestral arrangement is dope look it up
これはずるいって。8bit drum'n'bassでは間違いなく最高峰だよ。

This is one of my favorite GBC songs of all time. The percussion really sells the intensity of track.

I used to have the original one. Technically I still do, but it died and won't start up now. Thank you, 3DS E-shop! :P

TRUE STORY

I always thought that the Club Master theme was the most badass one in the game. Then I heard this!
That first Grandmaster duel was so intense.
Such an underrated song
I forgot about this gem! This song is better than most of the music in the Pokémon series! This needs to be in another game please!!!
Interesting concept. I could totally hear the melody line being played by a solo violin. Perhaps I'll arrange this for string quartet.
