  • What a surprise my first video on the subject ( • Water Pump Control - P... ) had more than 400k views. Obviously many people have a problem with their presscontrol unit.
It was also obvious that my 'temporary solution' wouldn't last. This summer we started experiencing problems again whereby the presscontrol would go into 'Failure' mode. Not often, sometimes.
Time to find out what is really going on.
Credit goes to a Dutch lady (CrossFireX) who figured out what was wrong with her presscontrol unit. You can read the technical background and her findings on the issue, on this forum (use a translate machine): www.circuitson...
As you can see in this new video, I also had a look at the two magnetic reed relays. The one at the bottom/back of the pcb board, 'seemed' like sticky. It didn't react when I first measured it and approached it with a magnet. Hard to say if this reed relay was part of the problem. Check both reed relays, one never knows.
The real culprit, however, is the yellow XRY CBB23 1µF 400VDC capacitor. Over time, it lowers in value. Mine was approx. 0.34µF when measured, the Dutch lady measured 0.22µF.
I guess a lot of folks should have a working presscontrol again, after changing this faulty capacitor with a new one. Of course, there may be another fault in your particular unit... don't ask me what else you can try - I just don't know.
For those who followed/installed my little trick with the plastic nut (as described in the first video): I took out the plastic nut (after having installed a new capacitor) - the presscontrol works without any failures..
Muscial score: When the Levee Breaks, by Zepparella ( • Led Zeppelin When The ... )( sorry Rex Wheeler, next time you may well be on again)
