These guys are just fucking insane.
It's like putting together a pop band with Stevie Wonder & The Chick Corea Elektric Band.
Ok, to be brief and to the point, in my understanding as I discovered Dirty Loops back in 2014, as I think it was, they truly are a musical phenomenon and exceptional musicians and artists. I have been around for 6 decades, and do love music ever since I was a kid. These cats are something else. They are actually an inauguration of the new breed of the genre. Period.
Well said my friend, these guys will be in the music history classes in the future.
@viewer1 Dimash is amazing!
The bass player Henrik Linder really shines on some other songs of theirs, and so does Jonah Nilssons vocals. They're all amazing musicians... Both creative and technically.
Dirty Loops are crazy talented. I'm basically a metalhead and love heavy screaming guitars - still I just love Dirty Loops. Ok - maybe I'm biased since they are swedish (and so am I) but their sheer musicanship and wild ideas just makes me happy. Also important - THEY always seem to have fun and love what they're doing. Some technical bands are just dead serious and focused but Dirty Loops are playful and you never know quite what to expect...
This is a fairly new song (for an upcoming album I guess) and another new song is "Next to You" (also crazy good - check it out) They have a few covers on CZcams also worth checking out. I'd never thought I'd like a Justin Bieber song (Baby) or Britney Spears (Circus) - but what Dirty Loops do to these songs are just fantastic - LOL I actually haven't heard the original songs. They also made a cover of Adele's Rolling in the Deep which is just sick - love it!
I've been playing in bands myself for many years (mostly rock/metal) but nothing even close to the level of these guys. Like I said, it makes me happy to see/hear their playful talent (and joy)
Cheers from Sweden!
What they said, and also Hit Me & Prude Girl. 😁
Supertalented and Supercatchy.
Another Metal Head here from USA. Holy shit! There is nothing left to want from these guys. They continue to pull me from my "safe place" and fantasmagorize me into another dimension of incredulicity! All shine here but Henrik Linder is an incredible bassist!
Do “Next To You” by Dirty Loops. It’s less chaotic, more structured, and very.. gospely. Or Plini. Anything by him.
Plini would be a treat.
Yes next yo you will be great cover with plini, cant imagine plini have this kind chord , and plini drum its to clean also ,imho
It's very refeshing to hear a reaction from someone who clearly understands musicdynamics, instaed of the "usuall" oh my god it soo good... (witch it is).. pressing the big red button here ! /cheers
They are so talented, all of them. And that intonation on that fretless bass is beyond everything.
Yeah man I'd heard of Linder before because of his fast slap lines and initially thought "oh great another fast slap player"
Only recently I saw the video for this track and was like DAMN. He's got SOME balls playing runs like those so quickly on a fretless bass, let alone a cumbersome 5-string.
@@metemercan1147 SIX strings! Even more crazy.
It's hard not to be floored by these guys' technical prowess, so great job keeping it together!
Their more recent song, "Breakdown," is much more of a balled - it's like being strangled with a velvet rope, and really showcases each one's ability to "bring it down" in service of a musical idea.
Dirty Loops "Next To You" !!!
Thank you for being the only one "reaction" i've watched that had the curiosity to listen to the outro. (I mean would Purple Rain be the same without its outro ? :))
Wow, definitely one of the best reaction videos I've seen. Great insightful commentary...you got me to subscribe. I love that you picked up on that idiosyncratic combination of rock/fusion instrumentals and power pop vocals. I haven't read all the other comments but I'm sure that requests have gone up for Dirty Loops NEXT TO ME. This is an utterly epic leap into the full Dirty Loops experience. The instrumentals are phenomenal but honestly the highlight that keeps me coming back again and again to NEXT TO ME is the vocals. Quincy Jones has said of the lead singer (I have to paraphrase) "Yeah he has soul but he's also got one of the most dynamic vocal ranges I've ever heard". The combination of a truly breathtaking lead and the monumental background chorus's is exhilarating. These guys all went to the Royal Swedish Academy of Music together and one of the great things is the obvious joy they take in playing together. I, sadly agree that this is probably far too complex to make it super big in popular music, what a shame. Dirty Loops however will I'm sure continue to be an inspiration to muscians and music lovers. Keep up the great work. Just a little footnote. On a few of their recent videos they do end with a movie credits kind of finish. A lot of what they say has kind of an inside joke feel but even so I've found much of it quite hilarious.
These guys started uploading videos on CZcams where they were doing cover versions of contemporary songs by Adele, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga to name a few. Don't think they could ever imagine just how viral those videos became! I saw many musicians on Facebook sharing their videos and expressing their admiriation. You know it's something really special when like everyone in the biz from David Foster to Quincy Jones are singing their praises! David Foster took them under his wings as his like proteges. Now they "belong" to Quincy Jones. As a Swede i've kinda followed their journey. They met at music school where they studied music theory.
Dont forget the recent song "Rock you" and "Next to you" by Dirty loops. Good work on the reaction. Pro level.
Just some insight to their writing process. They compose on sheet first, then play it.
That makes me so happy! It always feels like composing on sheet music is a dying form.
@@CriticalReactionsthere is an interview with Henrik Linder on ‘Bass Magazine, Songified’.
He talks about how Dirty Loops worked in writing their tunes on this album -it was a real eye-opener for me.
Just put it into your search, it’ll come up.
And yeah, as Chris was saying, their solos are mostly written out, too.
Thing is: when making the video post-recording, they have to relearn all their parts, including the solo ones, to make ‘em match exactly with the recording. Not always easy…
Still waiting for more Dirty Loops appreciation from your channel and living in hope ☺️👍🙏
commentary...one of my all-time favorites
Great reaction bro. Do “Hit me” by Dirty Loops next. Henrik Linder does more stuff on bass and Jonah Nilsson does more vocal runs. They are all extremely talented musicians.
They were educated at The Royal Music school of sweden doing Jazz. It is only where The pros are. Trust me.
aerobix donn yup, whole lot of jazz goin on in such a pop-feeling song
And hooked up at Södra Latin (high school for you non Swedes).
Jonah Nilsson, the keyboardist/vocalist, also studied Classical music.
Hi Brian, thanks for that video and the many interesting observations and comments you’ve made.
“Work Shit Out” is one of my fave Dirty Loops numbers-, always makes the hair on my neck stand up…
Was wondering if you could listen/react to their songs “Next to You”, “Rock You”, “Coffee Break is Over”, or their cover of “Thriller”? Take your pick ;)
I would very much appreciate your opinion and feedback on those, thanks! 🙏
Please react to Dirty loops - Next to you.
YES !!!
Great, great, great reaction. Such good comments, really thoughtful. These guys just ooze technical. I think its kinda in their DNA. Definitely try *"Next to You"*. They've just come out with a new EP too and the songs are excellent. The outro figures on a few of their songs. They run credits and if you take the time to read them they are pretty funny in theri own right. Thanks again for your quality reaction.
the rythm is maybe an accelerated sample from the band Headhunters "If You've Got it, You'll Get it"
Thanks for the insights man. Next to You is also epic, give that a listen!
First time watcher, great analysis sir, loved hearing it. :D
Frickin' awesome track huh? This was my introduction to this band too.
Not sure if this burts your bubble or not, but I'm pretty certain the solos were scripted (in the best way possible) - there's a backing track, the drummer seems to keep in absolute pace with it throughout his solo, quite integral for when the bassist jumps back in quite dramatically! That said, it's also entirely plausible that the backing track was added (or modified) afterward for effect too.. These guys were signed by Quincy Jones (the dude who signed Michael Jackson and countless other successful artist), so there's certain to be big money at their disposal for post production work.
Also, they're music students from Sweden, in their mid-to-late 30's, so they've been working at their crafts for quiiiiiiiiite a looooong time.
The bassist gets his own shine on in a number of their other tracks, he's got some chops, that boi!
I'd love to hear your analysis of the track that followed this: "Next to You" - czcams.com/video/rV9uCmlMQ1c/video.html - I saw a few others mention this too. I wanted to tell you my thoughts, but I wouldn't want to impact your reaction.
Another original of theirs from 6 years ago, "Hit Me" - czcams.com/video/utn6TnORINM/video.html, also showcases some particular fancies of theirs, particularly in the last few moments, might be worth checking it out too.
Thanks :)
- N!
No, This is not too chaotic. This is music of joy. I know I am late, I just wanted to tell that Stratele Studios made an intervju with Jonah Nilsson(the singer) More music: DL together with Cory Wong. "Follow the Light". and "Thriller" Dirty Loops "Rock You", Break Down. "World on Fire".
I've seen most of the ones you suggested but personally I find that I always come back to Work Shit Out. It has the perfect balance of poppier catchiness and jazzy complexity.
Great analysis!
Glad to see you check them out. Really cool band. Also been awhile since I have watched your vids, the new haircut looks good.
Dirty Loop is amazing and I've been keeping up with them ever since this reaction. Also, this was 20 months ago -- my hair has been growing ever since :)
@@CriticalReactions well, better late than never haha
Really nice analysis of this song👍👏
A great band deserves a great commenterer. This music is spooky. And your comments added a feelgod naturality to it.

Dirty loops next to you please, love your reaction. Love your reaction hahah, cant wait for more dirty loops reaction
It would be interesting your take on Juan Gabriel at Bellas Artes, "Hasta que te conocí." In case you haven´t done it yet. You are gonna love it, garanteed!
p.s. Jonah (singer) has an Epic Vocal Range, as quoted by Quincy Jones...
Henriik the bass player and Aron the drummer is JAZZ trained the vocalist and keyboardist is Classically trained. They all went to the Royal Academy of Music in Sweden.
I think that a quick search of CZcams for Dirty Loops will give you a treasure trove of more of this kind of stuff. This is pretty typical, both for their original and their covers too.
Accelereted sample of a Headhunters track is used in this. Result is mind blowing. Dirty Loops is an incredible band.
You need too check them out.
I feel like you would enjoy Snarky Puppy - Lingus(we like it here) . It’s funky in the best way possible.
Was just about to post a comment recommending Snarky Puppy. Lingus from We Like it Here would be great.
A couple years late to the show, but I saw this on Wikipedia yesterday and it's relevant to your wondering about the tone and punchiness of Henrik's bass:
"Linder is also known for his tone, which comes from his innovation of working around a broken bridge pickup in his Yamaha bass that he has had for 8 years. By doing so, he adjusted to find new ways of getting notes to sound punchy. He also has very light gauge strings and works with the volume of his amplifier to play more dynamically."
I'm here for the Dirty Loops!
Could you do a second band reaction to one of these? Contaminate Me by Leprous, The Lotus Eater by Opeth, or Where Dragons Dwell by Gojira
"The way she walks" is a great track by them
Check out Dirty Loop's version of "Baby" (yes, the Justin Bieber song) for a more "mainstream" song. There's not much "mainstream" about their take on it.
could you react to 'Shobaleader One “Squarepusher Theme”'
Weird jazzy music with a kickass drummer and bass player
'Coopers world' is also a very good one
Hello! I wonder if you can do a reaction to a Breakdown with Dirty Loops. Would be fun to hear what you think about them.
Arons subdividing is spot on!
Wow! That was an experience! What a good song.
So... I've got another niche song to recommend: Jelonek - Elephant's ballet
Nice reaction! "That was real cool!" Less is more. Well, not for the Dirty Loops so much, perhaps. 😄
I feel like you would enjoy Thank You Scientist - Son of a Serpent.
Dirty Loops "Rock You" and "Next To You" both more straight forward tunes.
To be honest you could listen to any of their songs and enjoy them. They’re one of those bands that nails everything they do
You might look at Jonah Nilsson featuring Richard Bona doing a song called Coffee Break
Dirty Loops Rock You PLEASE
Still hoping I see you listen to Earthside - Contemplation of the Beautiful. Emotional roller coaster.
Hi, you earned a new subscriber here! The guys in Dirty loops are all classically schooled musicians and have played together since they were like 12. They are produced by Quincy Jones. You should listen to "Next to you" or the singer's new solo song "Coffe break", I think you would really like them.
ps to answer your question about their style so in the beginning they were session musicians and then started to do extremely advanced covers (all on youtube). After that they started to tour all around the world and then came Q. "Work Shit Out" is one of their first originals, then came "Next To You". Sometime before those two Jonah Nilsson (singer) made "Coffe Break" ft Richard Bonah, a crazy good and more commercial song. Dirty Loops is my favorite band in the whole world and Henrik Linder is too me the best bass player ds
Do some reaction to "Next To You" by dirty loops too please
I'm gonna brute-force this, in hopes that there's a chance! Try out the band NEUROSIS! Their song "Sovereign," "A Season In the Sky," or "No River to Take Me Home."
Please! I'd love to hear your take on this incredibly influential and underheard band! They're my favorite, for over a decade now
Dirty Loops "Stromae"
Yesssssssss! Just wish it was longer.
This is from their debut album, first original compositions. They broke out doing covers, by taking big pop songs, and turning them into this same style of technical oriented, jazz informed, monstrously performed. They even made Bieber sound good...
Wow so cool
Sayonara Love, Next to you and Rock You with same guys is worth a try!!!
Try this "Thriller"
Cool ending , changed my vote .Like.;-).It is a fusiion of a new bop -pop -things.....and the guys are genuine. Not showing off.Yes.It is jazz. And classic...and etc
Their genre is JAZZ FUSION....!!!!!!
Bryan: "I don't really have much to say."
Also Bryan: Talks for a further 14 minutes.
I've done that so many times that I might as well get a shirt with that written on it. 😅
His singing really, _really_ reminds me of Michael Jackson.
If you can't get enough of this style and sound, give Snarky Puppy a listen. the song "Lingus"
Past me has got your back! czcams.com/video/2blm5fMex9c/video.html
Also their new album drops in a couple of months and I couldn't be more stoked!
@@CriticalReactions I only discovered Snarky about a year ago....revisted them after discovering Dirty Loops about 2 weeks ago....So for fun I searched for any Snarky gigs and found one, exactly where I will be, on that date, in the UK (I live here in the States) so unbelievable serendipity!
@@andrewbabcock8681 What luck! Enjoy the show.
Can you react to Matt Corby? Anything really.
Time for some Pink Floyd ~ Ernesto Gamez
React to snarky puppy - lingus
Please react to dirty loops next to you
do you do any "subscriber reacts"?

“He has a fun idea of time” Go watch Virgil Donati and Dave Weckl...good god. They’re the best drummers on the planet
I normally really hate this kind of music, but the words you provided made this something I could survive, and granted, as per usual, insight into the way the song was structured and perhaps why certain choices were made. Over the past few days I have discovered another masterpiece that I think really deserves a look, and while I know you have reacted to Shadow of Intent before, I`d say The Tartarus Impalement is probably one of, if not the compositional magnum opus of the group.
check out the best singer on the planet. Dimash SOS. good luck giving critics
Hardly improvised. Hardly.
My two cents.
Me thinks the "COMPOSER" is a we bit intimidated by Dirty Loops. You'll notice he hasn't REACTED to any more of thereunbelievable songs!
Nobody is showing off...you are offfff topic.Miles Away;-))
Dude....it;s another level of organically including their own nortjern culture (Grieg is there somehow). Not your level.Chill
Just a killer tune...and your lack of knowledge of music just shines through. Sad.
Crap. Next.
I kindly ask that the next time you comment that you add something to the discussion. Music, as all art, is subjective. You may not have enjoyed this song, which is fine, but explain what you didn't like about it. That can at least open up a conversation with other people.
@@CriticalReactions Well said, I totally agree with you!
How can one say crap to this..
