I only watch Pentatonix, just my preference, but the other major a capella groups are Home Free (country), Voice Play (musical theater) and Voctave (made up of Disney singers) where PTX is pop. They all have good fanbases. Someone mentioned the others are a bit easier on copyright, which is true just because PTX is the one on a major label.
This was recorded very early on. They had won The Sing-Off (a capella competition television show) but the promised recording contract had fallen through because the unimaginative record company couldn't figure out how to market them. So they started making their own videos and putting them on CZcams. At this point, they are super young: Mitch (high tenor) is 19, as is Kirstin. Scott (blond baritone) is 20, Kevin (beatboxer) is 23, and Avi (bass) is 22.
You do not need to apologize for applying a filter to the video. We Pentaholics have seen the video 100's if not 1000's of times. Do what you got to do. We expect it.
No awards for this song, although it was one of Pentatonix's first viral breakthroughs. Filmed deep in a parking garage, but it's almost as good as a storm shelter, LOL! BTW - you actually don't have a reaction up for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the song that won the 2nd Grammy for Pentatonix. It's an instrumental piece, with no words, sung by a vocal group with no instruments. Highly recommended! Both have enormously talented bass singers - Tim Foust for Home Free, and Geoff (jeff) Castellucci for VoicePlay. Yeah, its understood you'll have to put distortions or filters over the video, Sony is notorious about putting out the copywrite blocks. PTX has been together more than 10 years now so you have lots of songs to choose from. They are probably best known for their six Christmas albums, but they also have several albums and EPs with covers of pop songs from various decades and styles, from Dolly Parton to Dua Lipa, Michael Jackson to K-pop. And they have two albums of their own original songs in a variety of current pop styles. And all their arrangements are creative, with a surprise here and there.
That bass drop! Impossible to not move to it. PTX has such sophisticated arrangements, even when they are striped down. They all shine, breathe and sing together as one. Glad you enjoyed it. 🤗
New subscriber for PTX reactions!! There are other a capella groups and while they are good, there is none like Pentatonix. You HAVE to see Bohemian Rhapsody...it will blow you away!! Many use the filters and we fans are okay with that, as long as PTX is in the house. Also, as others have recommended, anything by Acapop kids, a brainchild of Scott. Citizen Queen is as well. They are extremely talented but not a fan of all their music. Killing Me Softly and Never Enough are both amazing though. Thanks for your reaction and thanks for putting out the love and positivity vibes. We all need more of that.

The screen shake is a shout-out to WOTE (Walk Off the Earth), who also did a cover of this song. However, the shakes are from a different WOTE song that went viral, I Knew You Were Trouble. Btw, Gotye is pronounced goat yay, from his name (in Belgian or French, I forget which), Gautier.

They've won 3 count them 3 grammys for daft punk, dance of the sugar plum fairies, jolene w/dolly parton. They have hundreds of songs and not one of them are bad. You need to react to these 3 I've mentioned and more. This video is from the time when they had moved to Los Angeles and were almost immediately dropped by Sony Records so they were trying to build an audience on CZcams. This was one of their first viral hits.
So, after spending the last 5 hrs watching you guys reacting to NF, I have to reiterate that you NEED TO check out the Imagine cover/upgrade from Pentatonix . IMO they have NEVER done a bad song. Home free is another good Acapella group, they're like a Country singing Acapella group. There's a few others but Home free IMO are the next best Acapella group to Pentatonix. They have an amazing Bass singer named Tim Foust. If you love country music, then they will instantly become your favorite Acapella group.
There are two other very popular acapella groups: Home Free and Voice Play. Home Free has a country flavor to them while Voice Play does a lot of Disney covers. Both of them are very good. There are a few other acapellas out there like Tim Holens and Voctave, but Pentatonix, Home Free, and Voice Play are the big 3.
