  • Hi there, I'm Eileen. I've been reflecting on my life decisions, including my luxury purchases over the years. Even now that I've welcome minimalism into my life, I still very much value certain luxury items in my wardrobe. In fact, I think having a curated collection is what grounds me. Let's have a chat about some of my best and worst shopping decisions in the last decade xx

I really believe if more YT & IG influencers would share information like this many of us would not make mistakes with their purchases. I can personally admit, I wish I'd listened to more videos like yours from the beginning. Thanks Eileen for your wisdom and willingness to share it.💛✨

I unsubscribed to all of the luxury CZcamsrs that were inspiring impulse purchases, and kept up with you. It’s a breath of fresh air to hear from you and be validated in loving the pieces I have.
(Also Caitlin Pawlowski! She’s moved forward from luxury overconsumption content and I’m here for it)

You are so practical in your shopping decision. Putting your money where it brings not only "financial" return in the form of your enjoyment with them in their craftsmanship and quality.
Downsizing and curating your collection is definitely the way to go.
I have also learnt that using what you need and buying only what you would wear is the best advice.
Every penny saved is every penny earned is my thing now.
Having enough and be contented in life.

Hello, Eilen. Can you please say something about weight of even empty Birkin bag... I found that very unpleasant for me because I like light weight bags like LV canvas bags. I like it very much when you styled it on your casual look. Thank you! :))

I appreciate your honesty about buying the Chanel WOC because it was your birthday - whether it is my husband gifting or me self purchasing I have tried to get out of the habit of occasion splurges for the sake of it as I’ve gotten older. Inevitably something would come along after that I truly got excited about but the budget had already been spent on a random thing.

Thank you for being a sane voice in the luxury CZcamsr space, Eileen! Your perspective is helping me come to the conclusion that I really don't need a 2nd Dior Book Tote, because honestly, I only have so many occasions where I would want to carry one and the one I already own is enough. Plus, the one I've been obsessing over is very similar to the one I already have (a dark toned version with an elaborate embroidery design). I simply need to bring the one I already own out of its storage bag and enjoy it.

The Best Thing I've learned is to "Get Real" with Myself & ask myself "Do I Really Need This? Will I use it to it's Fullest Value? Am I buying THIS bc I saw a Friend with one? (keeping up with the Joneses) Could the Money I'd spend on it pay for a Luxury Vacation?"

I have a few SLG pieces that I use all the time and that's all I need. I don't need to "collect" and buy one or two dozen SLGs as it'll just sit in the boxes in my closet. Sometimes owning too much is overwhelming and I'd like to see myself spend hard earned money on pieces I know I'll get a lot of use out of. Thanks for sharing!

Your channel is so inspirational. I’m challenging myself to a low-buy year so I can save up for a big-ticket treat for myself next year that I plan to keep for a lifetime. You also inspired me to start attacking the clutter and unloved pieces in my closet. I need to do another round.

Fully agree. Over the past 2-3 years, I've been ridding my closet of 'trend/fad' fast fashion items & replacing them with classic staple pieces & the same with my shoes, handbags & jewelry. I do have a few 'name brands' that I stick with, love my Levis, Keds & Coach, I also have an adorable little Kate Spade mini-wallet that was a gift, but for the most part, I haven't been buying much lately & what I do get, I'm more particular & selective about. I've narrowed it down to the items I REALLY LIKE & the rest went bye-bye, some of the nicer items go to family/friends, but what they don't want goes to our local hospice thrift shop & the bulk of it to Goodwill. It sounds crazy but getting dressed is actually easier when you have fewer but better options.

Another nice video and it’s good to review our decisions so we can grow smarter.
Yes, it is a journey to know what we love and what works for us. Luckily we can sell luxury items so the cost of the journey can be lower.
I think Chanel seasonal single flap is worth buying as they are more practical, but only if we find it in a perfect colour and size.
Recently I made a list of “not-to-buy list”, which is a list no matter what I great deal I encounter, I would never buy one. Chanel double flap is sitting on that list.
So far, I love every luxury bags I bought. Although I sold my Balenciaga mini city and LV neo noe in (pink) when my dressing style changed, I still admire their beauty when I saw someone else carrying them.
I also sold a Balenciaga city to a Philippine dealer who buys very torn bags, repairs them and sells them to local market. I wore that city bag to ground, very torn as it was so practical and was my everyday bag for 7 years. It was worth every of my dollars spent. My Balenciaga mini city was sold after being used for 5 years but still looked pretty brand new. The goatskin material is so durable but light. I always miss that bag but don’t regret selling it. I bought new babies which I like more now. 1 in 1 out (at least try to be) to keep a minimal collection. Even if I didn’t sell it, it would have only been sitting in a wardrobe and I would have felt really bad seeing it there.
On the other hand, my regret is more on the bags from non-luxury brands, eg Tory Burch, Furla, Coach. I bought them, seldom used them, and discarded them.
Now my everyday bags are from a Korean brand (half cheaper than Tory Burch but the quality and design are on par) and are made of Italian leathers which suits my care-free lifestyle.
As I usually go out with my son, I only use my luxury bags for fancy dinners and on special occasions lately. From time to time, I take out my luxury bags from their dust bags and admire them and that already brings me lots of joy. I know I should use them more, maybe when my son doesn’t pull and scratch my bags. Lol
Eileen, have a nice week ahead!

I sold Luxury bags and I only have one bag left. My LV Neverfull MM which was my present to myself for my birthday and having my son. I am deciding between a LV speedy B DE 25 or a small Loewe puzzle bag. I want understated but durable.

    • @ColourfulNoir

I don’t see minimalism as owning nothing or nothing designer. In my case, I went from buying a lot of designer to then downsizing to then appreciating what I own. I’m not perfect or aiming to be (if that’s even possible)-I’m just more intentional. As with Idyl, I truly love their designs so I don’t see why I shouldn’t talk about a brand that aligns with my style so much?

    • @SharonMoist

If you’ve followed her for a while, you would know her focus is luxury minimalism, and 11 or 12 handbags is definitely NOT “many” bags!😅😂🤣
