I just painted it with a primer, I’d always recommend using a primer…but if your frame is white and you’re using a blue…then a good sand should be ok. Depends if you want a professional finish.
Yes, sand as much as possible. The more time spent sanding the better the paint goes on. Make sure you give it a good wipe too, alcohol works…get rid of oily finger prints too.
I start with a 400 and then work my way up to finer…ending with 1200. I don’t strip the paint all the way off just smooth and even it. Really tough paint you’ll need paint stripper.
paint wont stick (especially if the existing paint is glossy), and you'll see through. you need to sand, prime, paint, and add a topcoat, glossy will look better. Does it suck as a process? Yes. You also have to remove all the components and mask the holes because you dont want paint in the wrong places.

What paint did you use? And how did it hold up? I’ve repainted my bike 3 times now with different paints and methods but it never is very scratch resistant
you need a topcoat on top of the paint. I've done mine like that. it is scratch resistant, but not professional. the whole thing cost me 30 bucks though, not hundreds, so i'm happy enough. Unless you stare at it up-close, it looks good.
You do realise I’m spraying outside right? I’m not painting in a booth with a compressor and mixed paint. This is a rattle can in the garden, it’s fine mate.

I use Spray bike paint, amazing stuff! Just make sure you fully let it dry and it won’t scratch easy.
