Top 5 Pots Of My Poker Career (Featuring Isildur1)

  • Doug takes a stroll down memory lane and reviews the five largest pots he's ever played. A few of them are against Viktor "Isildur" Blom, an opponent with whom he had some extensive blood matches. Also featured are the mysterious malACEsia and Denoking/wilhasha.
    Some of these hands are standard, some of them are off the wall, and all of them have enormous six-figure pots. These were all played on Full Tilt Poker, the premier destination for high stakes poker before its recent closure.
    Doug is in Vancouver for the PokerStars WCOOP. Check out his full schedule here: pbs.twimg.com/media/CrdIv7kVI...

      @mindaza0 Před 5 lety

      really? not many strong hands Isildur has? 86s, 66, A6s, 96s, K6s, 55, 77, A2s, TT, 75s, 44, T7s - that is a fuk ton of combos. Yet call OTR is fine

    • @coyotes16
      @coyotes16 Před 5 lety +4

      mindaza0 66 and 55 don’t raise flop there. A set on that dry flop doesn’t raise the flop there either so eliminate all sets. Much less combos than that the way preflop action played out

    • @bekeneel
      @bekeneel Před 4 lety

      @@coyotes16 Can't be sure of all that, what you can be sure of tho is that Isildur is a loose and crazy player, so could easily have been a bluff, by missed flush or straight etc.. I believe, alltho it's dangerous that reraising on the flop would have been better cuz if isildur had no straight on the turn he probably folded there, otherwise you give your opponent a free ticket to the river and more chance to lose the pot ofc...

      @michelcharbonnier7603 Před 7 lety +5

      These "PROs" (Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen, Mike Mattusow and many others) went boke online because they found out the hard way that online players are just so much better than the fish they were used to playing with in life games and also much better than themselves.
      You can even put in greats like Phl Ivey in there, who were crushing life fish but were crushed themselves by playing against much better players online we don't even know their names.

    How large of a bankroll (or even entire life roll) do you guys have to have to play these nosebleeds? I've played for quite a few years and _never_ understood why would anyone play for such sick amounts of money. I mean the numbers equal like two sports cars in one, and a nice home in two pots. Where did you make the most of your $, was it online cash, online tourneys, live cash or live tourneys? Greetings from Finland, Doug.

    I don't understand the way your opponent played the KK in the first hand. I know it's heads up, you both were probably very aggressive. But still, did he expect you to shove QQ or AK for 500bb for value? Or did he expect a bluff over his 5bet often enough to justify stacking off? I might be a nit, but I just don't understand this play with such deep stacks.

    • @Badbentham
      @Badbentham Před 7 lety +3

      Exactly my thought. Back in the old days of Sklansky or Harrington, this was the textbook spot to fold KK. However, ever since, some maniacs started to ship especially A5s (blocking an A, wheel, flush, overcard) in similar spots (maybe still slightly less deep) , making it a quite ugly situation. Still, when it doubt, the fold looks even in HU like the cleaner option to me. - And true, QQ and AK can never be for value, here.
