      This is why Phil Gus Gould opposed the removal of the Toyota/Holden cup under 20s comp. Adam Reynolds and Ben Hunt are products from that united comp.

    Back in the 2010’s, we (Panthers) had hope of winning another premiership but it also felt so far away at the time due to all the coaching dramas and inconsistent players we had in the squad but the key was our NSW Cup and youth teams were winning trophies at that time and we were lucky enough to bring through a host of amazingly talented and mentally tough players through to the top grade around the same time. That and very good coaching and club culture helped us to go from a hot and cold middle of the road team to become a champion team.
    Enjoyed your reaction!

    It's a great insight. So glad you reacted to this. I watch all overseas reactors regarding the NRL & I'd have to say you're definitely my the top 2.

    i have wondered if theres a better father son combo in all of sports, most of the world wouldnt be aware of the clearys but that is genuinely the best coach and player in the league... only ever coaches son thats actually better than everyone else?

    What remarkable about penrith grand final win in 2003 was that the team came last two year before. The new coach Lang turned the club around and won the premiership

    The reason for the Panther's dominance is their 'player and fan culture'. Firstly, it's a lower socio-economic geographical area and that breeds a 'highly competitive attitude'. Secondly, those local attitude-fueled bred players 'stay with the club'. That combination of determination and loyalty creates a team that is mentally at their peak almost every week and never-say-die attitude that is fearless. Throw in there some actual home-bred 'talent' and you have a super-team capable of greatness.

    Hopefully my tigers can get the underdog win again 🐅, told you they’re a team to watch! Yeah no highlight vids of Cleary, if you want to see him at work check out the 2023 grand final highlights. It speaks for itself. Great vid 👍🏻

    There is no draft, but you can't just buy players like in most football leagues, players are developed by junior clubs, some of those teams are owned by NRL clubs so they can keep an eye on potential future talent, those teams give out contracts and when someone's contract is up another team can sign them or the team that they're playing for can give them a new contract, when a player is ready they can sign a senior team contract.

Their is another doco about the 3rd gf 2023. called Undisputed but that hasn't been uploaded yet probably due to tv rights, it's on 9now but Im not sure if you can get it in Canada.

    The majority of players come from the state of Queensland (QLD) and New South Wales (NSW). Both states run separate state competitions called NSW Cup and QLD Cup. Both comps are referred to as 2nd grade, making their teams feeder clubs to the NRL/1st grade teams.

    At the end of every players contract, they are essentially free agents and can be signed by any team. Even juniors that are developed by one club can be poached by any other club.

    When they say the second club to win back to back competitions they mean since the superleague war of the mid nineties. There have actually been plenty of back to back wins since the competition began in 1908. St.George won 11 in a row between 1956 and '66.

    The panthers are still favourites, they have a next man up mentality, when they lose somebody the next man steps up and does just as good or better

    We don’t have draft but we have salary cap you can look it up

  • @TheGeneral92
    @TheGeneral92 Před 4 měsíci

    The 2003 premiership also featured a father coach/son player so 4 of the panthers 5 premierships feature that but yeah it's not a common thing at all, I can't think of any other examples in our game.

    League players mature at an earlier age than in the major American sports. There are plenty of players who were top class at age 19. So there's no college level competitions, and no college draft.

  • @crazycalves1
    @crazycalves1 Před 4 měsíci +1

    Each Club , has junior competitions that pick players from that to represent them , in competitions by NRL clubs , including Harold Matthews cup . SG ball , Jersey Flegg , NSW cup ,Holden cup etc Which the panther won last season .

    Straight up the draft system would kill local footy clubs and ruin the whole point of league, Local club working class players free to make fistfuls of cash from gambling dens. A draft is just really lame and is at odds with the whole point of why league broke away from union over 100 years ago.

      Eel was in NSWRL not NRL era and it was pre salary cap. Panthers are the only team to 3 in a row since salary cap was introduced.

      @@leaferikson8218 Penrith are already in rarefied air as you have to go back to the 80's to find the last side who won three premierships in a row. The Eels achieved the feat from 1981-83 with no club able to match this achievement since.30 Sept 2023 that was on google
