Viper is a steel roller coaster located in the Baja Ridge area of Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. Viper is the last operating roller coaster with seven inversions to be built by American manufacturer Arrow Dynamics. The other two, Shockwave at Six Flags Great America and the Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags Great Adventure, were demolished in 2002 and 2010, respectively. The roller coaster replaced a HUSS ride type named Condor.
In August 2018, Viper closed for an extended refurbishment. On December 22, 2018, Viper re-opened to the public.
Upon exiting the station, the train immediately begins climbing the 188-foot (57 m) lift hill. At the top, the train curves into the 171-foot (52 m) drop and enters a 140-foot (43 m) tall vertical loop. The train then makes a sharp left, entering two vertical loops and climbing into the mid-course brake run, followed by a zig-zag into a Boomerang element, where it goes through a half-corkscrew followed by a half loop. Next, the train goes up into another half loop and half corkscrew so that it returns in the opposite direction. Riders are photographed by an on-ride camera in the middle of this element. Riders then make a right turn and immediately enter a corkscrew which inverts riders twice. The ride leads into a flat section of track followed by and s-curve drop and rise into the final brake run before turning into the station.

My 1st time riding this in the, I don't know, around the time it 1st opened. My Dad is an engineer, very mathy & as we're going up the hill, he looks to the left & says 'that loop doesn't look safe'. effin' freaked me out, like, really? You're telling me this now? Too many loops though, I can't handle this ride. I like Revolution when ya just had the lap bar.
Thanks for the back seat view! I'm tired of watching other coaster videos from front seat only.

Only thing that'll make Viper a whole lot better is new trains and a fresh paint job, just like Revolution, and it's still a winner in my coaster book!!

Rode 7-1 and 2-1 as per suggestion of others, and I actually found 2-1 to be a bit better. Smoother and more forceful! But the drop is definitely sublime in 7-1!

update: I finally got to ride Viper back in August! It was relentlessly intense! I thought this would be a bigger Vortex, but it proved me wrong 😅 Viper is a beast and I’m so glad I finally got to ride it, including in 1-1 and 7-1! I didn’t get 2-1 but I rode in 2-2.

Absolutely. In my experience, those who say it isnt are usually tall, so they dont get their heads slammed into the rest lol. If you look at reviews, 90% of them talk about how painful this ride is. Magic mountain has FAR better coasters that wont hurt you, so this is the one ride I skip.
I have no idea why so many people have a boner over this ride lol. I wish theyd replace it or re-track it.

OK, time to lay down the law on all of you so-called experts or know-not-much types (i.e. GENERAL PUBLIC). Viper is old. Any old ride be it steel or wood is going to give you similar experiences, that comes with the territory.
Granted, I haven't had any issues with Viper all the times I've rode it, I have found it to be enjoyable, at times. Only a bit of dizziness here and there because of the forces and all, nothing much.
That said, slow it down (the criticism, not the ride, lol), MMMMMMMMKAY

Whenever the first words out of someone's mouth after riding any ride is about how much it made their head hurt, then you know that the time is up for said ride. C'mon, SFMM. Time to finally get rid of Viper, the same way that SFGA got rid of The Great American Scream Machine.

This is an OLD Arrow. Would you say the same thing about Ninja? Gold Rusher? Or what about another old big-sized Arrow, Magnum XL-200 at Cedar Point (yep...the world's first hyper)? Many like you would say the same about all the smaller Arrows that still stand and operate. These rides were built using the basic technology that existed at the time, not EVERY coaster you may take a liking to has to be a Beemer or an Intamin (well, at least the ones that don't break down spontaneously!). So chill out some! 💯
