How good was Andriy Shevchenko actually? #GOAT
New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Andriy Shevchenko who played for Ac Milan and Dinamo Kiev as well as Chelsea for most of his career, not only one of the greatest forwards of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how Andriy Shevchenko ranks and just how good he actually was.

Since I watched Sheva a lot during Milan and then Chelsea, I can tell you what happened to him.
    1. At Milan, he was go-to man. In the last years he was everything - finisher and creator. There was practically no goal without his participation. He either scored, assisted , or started the goal-scoring attack.
    2. At Chelsea, he was playing his game as in a team that Milan was playing. But the other players at Chelsea were more individual. They passed balls too late, holding the ball too long. At Milan ball was delivered to him quickly. Look at the video. Players just kicked ball to him, his job was to score or distribute. At Chelsea players often disregarded him even while he was in great position and passed to other players.
    3. He definitely wasn't on the same frequency with other players at Chelsea and that took mental tall on him. He started to miss where he would finish with aplomb previously, because he was one of the best finishers ever with both legs and head.
In the end his record at Chelsea is not too bad. Many goals he scored were beautiful. But he did not played many games there.

As a Milan and Chelsea fan I watched both and totally agree with you especially point 2 the pass was always late or passed wider. Do t forget that at Chelsea it was post an injury from which he never fully got over but he still scored 1 in 3. Also not sure Maurinho wanted him and that also played its pat

True even in case of Torres, Chelsea midfielders are notorious for holding the ball too long, making small passes, passing back to defenders instead of passing through ball. Was a fan of Chelsea but slowly lose interest in the club due to their playing style.

Your second point is pure fantasy! There was nothing individualistic about that Jise Mourinho first Chelsea team. It was Mourinho himself that didn't fancy him. Mourinho just didn't want in at Chelsea simple. He was an Abramovich buy the manager never wanted. He didn't give him the chance to succeed.

The fact he didn't perform on same level when he played in PL for Chelsea, doesn't mean he fell. Hat trick facing Barca in UCL at 21 yo. He took Dynamo close to UCL final, quite single handedly. His first season in serie A (the most demanding league) has been historical. Hat trick against Nesta at first duel. Hat trick against Nesta. He was unstoppable and a total package player, playing as center forward, second striker, winger and sometimes acting even as a sort of creator. No reference points for opponents. The way this guy scored, total arsenal. Cristiano can't score many goals Sheva scored. Was second only to peak Ronaldo Nazario Da Lima and his peak was from 1997 to 2006. His first season at Chelsea wasn't so bad, unfortunately didn't fit the system and Mourinho didn't valorize him. Then a serious of injuries occured, probably lost confidence and a normal slowdown for anyone over 30s occured. Multiple factors played a role. He's a legend and the greatest player I've ever seen in ACM jersey (considering Ronaldo came in a pretty good version of himself, given all the circumstances, but surely diminished)

He didn't take Kiev single handedly, Dynamo back then were a cracking team, their midfield could compete passing wise with anyone. I think with teams in the East block, they have talent, in many teams over the years, but they don't have it mentally.

Back to his big game performance. EURO 2000 qualifiers. Group 4 - France, Russia, Ukraine....
Russia loses first 3 games, then wins next 6. Now, in the last game vs Ukraine, it is 88th minute. Russia is leading 1-0....
Situation - if Russia wins, they go 1st, France goes to play off. If Ukraine draws, France 1st, Ukraine goes to playoffs.
88th minute, Free kick from 35 yards on the left. Shevchenko takes the ball, kicks his typical "far corner through the crowd" kick, Filimonov makes mistake, 1-1. Ukraine loses play-offs and never goes to Euro. France wins it! Shevchenko makes France champion of Europe.
    This is clutch for you.

Another player I have had the privilege to watch at chelsea. I get where you theory comes from re his time at chelsea but I’m not so sure.
For me I just got the impression he was on a bad streak of luck. His quality and skill was among the best I have ever seen. He was shooting from everywhere and was doing the work to put himself in positions. For some reason the ball just didn’t go in more often than not. Maybe he just didn’t fit the system and couldn’t get a flow on with it. I don’t know. He wasn’t game changing there but you could see his quality when on the ball. I think it just didn’t fit for him. Not necessarily need regards to his ego and being the “prince” or star man but maybe in regard of how the team played and whom it was built around. He just was never a player that was going to fit that system unless content with working the wings and defending. Like telling a dog to be a horse. It wasn’t him. It was a boss purchase not a manager one. And it’s like having gold when the currency is silver (not a reflection to take too deeply) .
I don’t think it was a battle of sorts other than with himself and being unhappy. Jose and Roman on the other hand was and maybe a picking point for Roman was “making” the worlds best striker fit in the team and can’t the others “build” around him?
I think it was more one of those issues.

He was a skillful and always dangerous all-around striker but by far not the same level as Van Basten,Ronaldo or Henry.

Sheva indeed was never at the same level as Henry - he was higher and got a Golden Ball while Henry is still waiting for his.

@@youtubeyoutube936 We can argue that Italian defenses were the hardest ones. But Ronaldo was, may be, the best player ever, when he could play. Shevchenko had his good years but not long enough. I mean, he had great years with Dynamo and proved on international level that you can be great and play in Dynamo. But many people think, if it is not a western club, you have not done enough. Depends how you look. In the top clubs you are surrounded by best players and if you work hard enough, you may even do something.

Wtf, Cristiano Ronaldo has a higher ranking than Cruyff and Maradona? You’re not serious. Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t even come close to the original Brazilian Ronaldo.

Yeah as good as he project are his ranking is very awful
He even give nistrlooy something like 7 ball control
Nistrlooy most of his goals shows he have the best ball control I have ever seen aside from zidane
His project very well put together but his ranking is laughable
