    The paperboy thing is entirely true. He doesn't have a face and is super creepy, it was also partly moved because he was so close to the ride track that dumb guests would often reach out and try to grab him. Can confirm the guy in the garage is meant to be Woz. Also, the scene with the family watching the TV had to be altered a fair amount. A student who was riding at the time commented that the shape of the moon painted in the mural would have been wrong for the sky the night of the moon landing and so they went in and changed it, as well there was a Beatles album in the room that wouldn't have been released yet and had to be taken out as well.

    • @halwaffles

    • @combat2267
      @combat2267 Před 6 měsíci +1

      The paperboy ruined face rumor is not true. There's at least one recent photo online of the paperboy's face seen from the other direction and it's there intact looking normal. If there ever were any issues with his face they've since been fixed. I'm pretty sure he's just turned around for artistic reasons, as in he's supposed to be selling to the street corner on the other side of the track.

    I really miss the AT&T 1990s ending. So much more inspired than the cartoon show we have now. It was still clearly an ad for AT&T, but it was beautiful, tangible, and had an amazing score. Some of the people looked a little tiny using forced perspective though, but it was all worth it for the futuristic city scene.

    I REALLY miss the Jeremy Irons version. Not that Judi Dench isn't wonderful (she is incredible here) but I hate so much that they replaced all those heartwarming scenes on the descent...and that music...OMG that music makes me get teary-eyed just thinking about it. It was true magic. Now...that gorgeous music is gone and we get to look at Jib-Jab on the TV in our car...soooo disappointing (and kinda nauseating for lots of folks with motion-sickness issues). I do like the new, upgraded animatronics though. They are amazing. I just don't understand who thought it was a good idea to replace a third of a ride with Jib-Jab.

      This experience has gotten dodgy in the last few years. It's VERY obvious, given all the light from the ride vehicle LCD screens, that you're passing through a bunch of poorly-hung black draping. It's literally falling down in many places and you can see bits of abandoned show scenes, backstage areas, etc. They've stopped caring.
      I'm hoping for a loving and thoughtful refurb of Spaceship Earth in the spirit of the attraction's legacy. Not making it some stupid Disney IP. A loving and respectful update to the experience.

The ending on that one with all the displays on the way down and that amazing haunting score was quite touching experience. It pains me that all of that has been replaced by such a bland experience that we have now. Very disappointing. If they overhaul this again, I hope they bring back something new on the final decent that more closely resembles the Jeremy Irons version.

      Well, the only other attraction that remains so close to it's original form and intention is Living with the Land, which has only had positive improvements over the years (barring the removal of that cool experimental antigravity barren). This bad future is closer than any of us realize or want, but hey, think of all the good this place did back when it still had a soul. Think of all the people it inspired. I recently read a comment on martinsvids' Wonders of Life tribute by a user who stated he became a physician because he was so heavily inspired and impacted by the Wonders of Life Pavilion. THAT'S EPCOT Center, and that's how it should be remembered, even if it never truly makes a resurgence as anything more than a proto Magic Kingdom clone.

    Thanx for this. The last time I was at WDW the SPACESHIP EARTH was closed for that 2007 refurbishing, so I never got to see the new presentation. It amazes me that the prior updates always were so seamless, integrating the old with the new, so that you never really saw the changes. Whoever first thought up this building, and the ride within it, had to be on drugs! Who would have thought that in the 1970's they would be able to design such an iconic presentation, even down to planning for the lasers mounted on the various buildings within EPCOT to project the spinning planet on the outside of it--and the fiber optics used on the displays and ceilings. And now, with the new LEDS on the dome, it is even more breathtaking.

    94-2007 was the best version, i remember it in the early 2000's being like 3, or 4 maybe. The city with the fiber optics was absolutely amazing. I really hope project tomorrow, and the whole interactive cameras get scrapped, it is awful.

    i remember coming here as a little little kid like...4 or six, and i remember this was probably the first THING that ever made me emotional. it was the children and, i believe, mother talking to their father who was absent over a screen. i don't know why it made me emotional, but the ride scared me up until then. that ride amazed me, and i NEVER KNEW what that memory came from until now!! thank you so much!

    I rode it when Walter Cronkite was the voice. I was so excited for that part. The whole ride was wonderful and I never knew the glimpses of the astronauts and all wasn't part of the ride. I thought it was something they were still working on. The idea of man in space looking down on history was on thrilling ider to me.

    Spaceship Earth always creeped me out. I've only ridden it twice, the 90s version and the current one and I just hate it. The ride pauses in the caveman scene or maybe it's a coincidence that happened on both my rides but it's so claustrophobic and the animatronics are so uncanny valley. Both times I remember sitting there in fear wondering if the ride was broken and if we'd have to actually walk through that eerie scene in order to get out. The atmosphere of the whole thing is foreboding and ominous. I don't know what it is, the animatronics and ride layouts don't bother me on any other attractions.

    Man, I keep coming back to these and martinsvids videos on the park, I really love the idea of this place. I've only been once, very recently, but I'm still absolutely infatuated with EPCOT Center in all incarnations. I'll never forget seeing that beautiful big golf ball for the first time on AFV as one of the places they were sending the winner of that episode to, during those special vacation episodes where Tom Bergeron would actually film short segments in the park and show them between chunks of videos during the early and mid 2000s. My little 5 year old brain would always lose interest when he made it to World Showcase, but boy, those episodes always had such a huge impact on me, seeing all these incredible places I'd finally be able to visit years later. Same with that promotional video they would play after ABC aired Disney films showing off Expedition Everest, and then to actually ride it. I know it's all just advertising to draw in a bigger crowd, but that doesn't mean it hasn't etched itself into my very soul. I just hope the Imagineers wake up soon and realize what they're doing to this place, the one Disney park that was truly magical because it showed the potential of all these different Great Big Beautiful Tomorrows.

    Has anyone ever explained why there never have been animatronics in the backwards segment of the ride. Is it because it’s too hard on the hydraulics to have the figures positioned at that angle?

    • @jasonmac70
      @jasonmac70 Před 6 lety +3

      No.. it’s because it’s a narrow area.. that’s why the 1994 version used miniaturized dioramas on the way down. If you haven’t seen the 94 version... watch it! IT IS BY FAR THE BEST FINALE

    My parents used to take us to Disney World every year throughout the 80's and 90's (I was born in 1980). I remember sometime in the 90's this seemed a lot creepier than normal, but I didn't know why. I guess I just found out, they changed the narrator from cutesy Walter Cronkite to evil Scar.
    And I'll always remember one time when the ride broke and we were stuck for 15 minutes listening to "Extra, extra. New York Daily".

    It's worth mentioning that some of the 1994 descent dioramas are still there, hidden behind black curtains. Not all of them are still there but at least some of them are, in various states of disrepair. There are some photos floating around from ride evacs where you can see some of them. The space girl animatronic is also supposedly still there inside the blacked out space station.

    I first went to Disney World (including Epcot) in 1989 when I was seven. So with the exception of the original version I've gotten to ride every single version. One thing that I remember was that originally the paperboy used to have this high pitched voice that would stick out but was changed later on. I also had noticed when the little animation with the horse and carriage from the Rome scene was gone. I had also always remembered that song (Tomorrow's Child) being at the end of the ride when I was a kid and I was bummed when it was removed. Spaceship Earth, even though having gone through changes, seems to be one of the only original attractions either not drastically changed (ex: Journey Into Imagination) or replaced altogether with the exception of maybe the ride in The Land. I also miss the Wonders Of Life Pavilion, especially Cranium Command. Almost everything in Future World is completely different from when I first went to Epcot. Honestly, I loved the original attractions more. Especially Journey Into Imagination.
