What If Buttermilk Trail Was All Downhill? - Mountain Biking Richmond, VA

  • Buttermilk is the most technically challenging trails in Richmond, Virginia. It is part of the James River Park System (JRPS), a series of mixed use trails for hikers, dog walkers and mountain bikers. Buttermilk follows the southern side of the river and goes from the Manchester bridge to the Nickel Bridge.
    Buttermilk is full of rocks and roots, and like most trails in this area, a lot of quick ups and downs. After all, we're not in the mountains. But lately I've been wondering how awesome this trail would be if we were. What is it was all downhill? This video showcases all the fun downhill sections from East to West, regardless of the actual riding direction. Meaning it is the best of both ways, but ordered in one way. Yeah its confusing no matter how I try to describe it, just watch and enjoy the fast, chunky mountain biking action!

    Ahhh the best editing and splicing alone on this video is worth more than one thumbs up. I absolutely love how you reverse uno every section so the ups become downs seamlessly. Love it. Also…WE NEED TO RIDE AGAIN ASAP. It’s been far too long.

      @@downtoridemtb I’ve been down there quite a bit on the weekends. Work has been too busy for me to do your usual lunch ride runs. It’ll cool off next month though. Weekends though, we can definitely get some riding in!

    Is Buttermilk any easier riding from West to East? I feel like North Bank is far easier in that direction. I always break off at Reddy and ride Forest Hill instead of B. Heights due to that assumption. Fun vid and great edit.

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, glad you like the edit! I think Buttermilk is equally hard either way, just at different spots. I’ve never cleaned it in either direction. The difficulty is part of what keeps it interesting though. But I do agree, Northbank seems a little easier going East.

    Man the footage got super choppy after the mud in mouth thing. Could it be because you're filming in 4k+? If you're exporting a 1080p video, CZcams likes a target bit rate of 8, which could also be the issue... Idk though

      @@downtoridemtb Thanks the bike stand is a must have?

    • @downtoridemtb
      @downtoridemtb  Před 3 lety +1

      It’s not a must have but it certainly helps. Really you just have to get the back wheel elevated. If you have a bench vise, put a piece of wood in it and hang the bike by the seat. There are plenty of ways to improvise but if you plan on doing any amount of work on your bike then it’s worth buying a stand. Will come in handy countless times.
