Love that this felt like more of a conversation than an interview. Being a fly on the wall while such experienced artisans talk shop is such a privilege.
What a wonderful conversation. I was glued from start to finish. Kirby your conversation in these pieces since I started watching you two years ago has come on leaps and bounds. It was always very good, but now one of the reasons I think these work so well is you hold a wonderful flow with the dialogue and relationship with whoever you’re talking to.

Terry's making a suit for me and I've just finished my third fitting on their last US trip. I have never looked better in a suit. Terry's very cordial and easy to chat with. I've noticed that both he and John have a very perceptible change in demeanor when they're talking about tailoring minutiae . They get serious and contemplative as if doing a hundred calculations in their head, it's how you would expect two masters of their craft to speak about their area of expertise. Thanks for making this profile of them.
Thank you for your comment. They seem to be easy to work with. Are you in the US. Is there lead time about 12 to 18 months.
@@allenwinston9225 I am based in the US and they visit New York a few times during the year. Their turnaround time depends on getting the fittings done and the fit right. So if you’re waiting for their US trunk shows, about 12 months to 18 months, or about 3-4 fittings, that should be a reasonable expectation.

Terry made a classic double breasted suit for me in 1990 and I asked about buttons and he joked yes there will be buttons! Bone buttons, inverted pleats and silk lining made for a beautiful suit. An absolute master in his craft!
Wow! Kirby this episode is surely one of the best you've done in London, really outstanding and with great tailors! Furthermore the references to Ian Fleming/Bond and the turn-back sleeves(also as seen on Sean Connery's tuxedo in the film Dr.No created by Anthony Sinclair of Conduit street) was a delight, not to mention Terry's cocktail cuff blue shirt a la Terence Young! It surely would have been nice for you to pop in to Mason&Sons who have taken over the legacy of Anthony Sinclair's tailoring for the Bond movies of the sixties, perhaps next time. A real pleasure to start the new year right, many thanks.

Kirby- There's a tailor in Montreal Canada you should meet. His name is Rudolph Popradi. He makes absolutely the entire suit hand-stitched including button holes. He was trained in Hungary but his master was trained on Saville Row.

120 years or so of experience between these two, is there anything they haven't seen or done in the bespoke tailoring world? Love how cluttered the back room was, getting work done in there. Great compliments from John, if a tailor of his stature is so effusive in his praise, you know absolutely top notch tailoring has been done.
I wish there were tons of instructional videos on this topic. I want so badly to learn this art form. Unfortunately I can’t justify quitting my job and interning somewhere without pay for a decade to learn. I’ve been considering just learning from scratch with trial and error.

Most of the tailors on and off the row are real characters. The owners of Richard Anderson are real characters. Roger Ramroop at Maurice Sedwell is a true gentleman.
this channel is heading into the right direction by preserving some of the history of artisanry for the future generations. this is what youtube is made for. beautiful content creates itself if talented people are willing to share their story.

Terry is what us Londoners call absolute Mustard, made me a lovely Cadbury purple two piece back in 90’s still have it today, fantastic condition, mark of a fine tailor. Bravo keep up the good work Terry and John the Desert Eagle👏 xx

Kirby...you're tips are great. I dusted off my dad's tux who had it commissioned, in London, in 1969. I have a black-tie even coming up and the videos have been very helpful. You're bowtie video got my bowtie tied in 5 min, fantastic! Many thanks :)

A question that I have asked myself the last few days is what kind of dances a real gentleman should be able to perform? Would be very interesting to hear your opinion on this topic.
Looks like if you want to have a bespoke suit, it is no point to look elsewhere, because quality, tradition and classic attitude is there even with better price than other tailors have. So Terry and John are ultimate solution for gentlemen, who has money for bespoke suit and want to have best price as well. Of course it is really tempting to try other tailors as well, but once you try everything and want to choose just one stable tailor, Haste and Kent are the obvious choice, if you can get on a same tone with those great men. London is such a ultimate city for people, who love luxury and tradition. I really like it and can´t wait to visit the Rules restaurant for the first time. I am about to do it sometimes during this year.

There are different ones if I'm not mistaken. Hemrajani, Eric Jensen (Sartoria Gallo), Alan Flusser, and others.

I must say Kirby, I’ve always enjoyed dressing well and appropriately for the occasion however, after watching your videos I’ve stepped up my game a bit more and truly enjoy the feeling of proper clothing in all aspects.
The last part of your conversation really hit on a pet peeve I have with how the general public dresses today!
For example, my Fiancée and I were invited to an upscale steakhouse in North Scottsdale last Wednesday for an early dinner, and I chose to wear a three button sport coat with a tweed waistcoat, dark blue dress slacks and tie…appropriate for I’d say a Wednesday evening. But more than a half dozen couples or small family groups walked in wearing shorts and tennis shoes!!!
It’s just ridiculous that people could care less about their attire these days and more disturbing that this establishment doesn’t have or enforce a dress code (probably mid/post pandemic when businesses are struggling they are afraid to offend or turn business away).
I applaud your charge to keep good style alive!

I see the same problem here in California. For Christmas Eve I wore my mid-gray maroon alternating white stripe suit with pp oxford Brooks Brother shirt and candy cane Christmas tie and looked smashing. Stopping by several high
-end department stores in BH before I boarded a plane to see relatives in AZ I had several coming up to me people come up.to me thinking I was the store manager and not just a customer. Got lots of compliments but the actual employees looked very underdessed for working at Nieman-Marcus, Nordstrom, etc. I refuse to look like an overgrown teenager and if I was a customer at the steakhouse when you were there we would have been kindred spirits! Dont give up looking elegant!

Great interview - lovely people. I own one bespoke suit that I had made for my daughter's wedding, and then I wore an off the peg suit instead - and the bespoke sits sadly in the wardrobe years later, never worn.

Why all the solid, stolid blues and grays. My Savile Row suits are alternating two color pin stripes and glenardt plaids. I will save my stolid colors for ready to wear Hickey Fteeman and HSM, If I am going to pay 6-7000 dollars for a bespoke suit I want one the separates me from the dull and unimaginative suit criwd!

Ha. Yeah. Well, the braces buttons on my trousers were coming undone. They offered to resew them on… and did so while I was wearing the trousers!
I absolutely love watching these vidios even though I could never afford bespoke.... I wish I could... thses two are smashing guys if I could afford bespoke these would be my tailors of choice even though any tailor in or around Saville Row are truly amazing craftsmen these two just come over so friendly and easy-going plus HRH Duke of Edinburgh was my favourite royal if these guys were good enough for HRH they'll do for me.... It’s to do with the 60s it was a deceptive plot to break down society with drugs, rebellion and demoralisation disguised as freedom loads of generations have been broken down to this “freedom” but if you go to most respectable areas in london you would be suprised how well dressed most people are even the old men wear suits.
I found that very interesting.
Fascinating conversation! Much of which I imagine was fueled by the deep knowledge these three share about all things proper in addition to the tremendous amount of ketamine Mr. Allison so generously offers before each shoot! Tremendous content per usual.

That's the plan for the future! We are very keen to get to film more in both France and Italy. It is just a matter of the cost sadly. This is one of the reasons we started the Patreon page, as so far all of our videos are self funded, so we simply cannot travel all over the world just yet.
