Ouray Colorado is known as the American Switzerland and I can see why! Tucked into the San Juan Mountains, its history dates back to 1876. It is a stunning little mountain town with lots to do for outdoors enthusiasts. Join me as I explore the area and hike to two waterfalls (Cascade Falls and the Box Canyon Falls) as well as a portion of the Perimeter Trail. I will show you a bit of the town and my beautiful campsite in the Uncompahgre National Forest.

wow.... that place is gorgeous. you have such a enviable lifestyle. Well done videography..... loved the content. Thank you for sharing.
oh and btw..... Ouray rhymes with hooray.... lol
Hey Catherine.... I don't know why I didn't think of this before. I follow another full time camping nomad on CZcams. His you tube channel is called Off Grid Back Country Adventures. He is in the CO high country right too. You should check his content out. He does a really good job, just like you. Cheers. Love your videos.
Real nice can't wait to do this. I retire in 5 1/2 years and I'm on the road, maybe meet up with you someday......
Wonderful video! I love Ouray and the million dollar hi way. That's one road where the driver better keep their eyes on the road. Thanks again.
Cat, you have an eye that captures natures beauty, its a real talent. My Sunday morning ritual is to get my cup of coffee and sit down to see what wonderful gift you bring to us with your videos. Thank you.
Thank you so much Ed!
Well said!
My wife didn’t know this was your video when I played it but she commented on how nice the videography was. Then she saw you and said “oh that’s why!”
😍😍
As always - beautiful beautiful beautiful U-ray. THANK YOU!!!!
Beautiful scenery! Thanks Catherine for sharing your wonderful trip with us. God bless and protect you always.
Thank you for sharing another gorgeous hike! Always a joy to find you early on a Sunday morning with coffee. Stay safe and well
Very beautiful area Catherine! Love the series of videos at Cascade Falls.
Thank you Bryan! See you soon!
YOU'RE - A. That's how you say it. I've been going there off an on my entire life. It's sort of my second home. I love everything about it ... including the drive from Ouray to Silverton, known as the Million Dollar Highway. I've climbed every cliff around the town ... and so have my sons, who I began taking with me several years ago. It's a great place ... and thanks for the feature on your channel. Best wishes.
I've spent a week in Ouray on two different occasions about a decade ago, and I loved it. I just booked a trip for next summer--what activities do you recommend? Fishing? Kayaking? I'm a solo traveler, so are there any hikes that would safe all alone?
I love Ouray, I have friends who lives in Ridgway Colorado, just a few miles from Ouray, I like to take advantage of them and visit often
Love those hikes... Thank you for a calming Sunday morning. I'm just up the road in CO.Love these Mountains and the cool temperatures.
You're a perfect compliment to all that gorgeous scenery and photography. So well done Catherine.
Love that you're now adding some of the drive and local area digs! Scenery lovely...first waterfall so cool! TY.
My favorite area of Colorado. The drive between Durango and Ouray is incredible. Silverton is a great little mountain town also. A great backpacking and mountain climbing trip is up into the Chicago Basin between Silverton and Durango, mountain goats everywhere. Another beautful backpacking trip is up to Blue Lakes near Telluride, especially in the fall. Gotta love the San Juans!
Just finished a 6 day trek in the San Juan’s! Stay tuned for that video coming soon.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures that's great, can't wait to see it !
Next time you're in Ouray, make it a point to hit the Ouray Hot Springs Pool on the south end of town.
We went to hot springs everytime we were in Ouray...stayed in those cabins by the river....
_Prefect way to start my morning, with Cat's video, bacon, sliced tomatoes, sliced avocado, hot flour tortillas, and of course coffee!_
Yum!
Hooray for Ouray. I have been through the town 5 times, and have never stopped to see the local sights. I have been through there in 87, 88, 95, 96 and 2011. Evertime I go through there I say; the next time...Great show today. Vaughn
What a hidden gem, glad you able to find and explore such an enchanting location.
I’ve never been there. Want to go now after watching this. Great video and I love the music choice. Very relaxing. Thank you.
There is always something so calming about a waterfall
Beautiful quaint town
Love you!
Always love your videos, but I think this is your best ever! I'm putting this location on my bucket list to visit when I get on the road full-time. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Ric!
Some "gems" off the beaten trail ... the beauty of the truck camping life. Very nice. 😎😎
Warm homemade Blueberry Muffin, fresh brewed vanilla nut coffee, and Your Colorado video. Perfect Sunday Morning. Thank You. 👍😀☕👍
Hi Catherine Thank you for the Majestic Views of Colorado It was wonderful looking through the eyes of a beautiful lady at the wonderful out doors
Beautiful country and your talented, skilled hand on the camera makes it more so. Thank you. Blessings
Thank you Betty Jo!
Catherine, I love all your videos, they're so refreshing as well as your appreciation of nature. I've been a silent subscriber for awhile, but when I saw you were in my neighborhood. I had to chime in! I live right over the mountains 15 miles SW of Telluride out in the boonies at the base of the Wilsons (the last range of the San Juans jutting west south of Telluride). I'd been in an apartment in Mountain Village (at the ski area) for 3 years previously, and your videos were such a nice vicarious escape to get out on a virtual road and/or hiking trip. I own a little print shop in Telluride called Happy Print and have been in this area almost 25 years now. But, just working alot on my business for the last many years and loved discovering your CZcams channel and all the travel you take and your excitement and passion for what you're doing. You go to some of my favorite places, and a few I don't know. This Ouray video was very beautiful. I'm an artist and avid photographer and I really appreciate you for sharing and putting your work out there. Thanks so much for making the effort! It really does help, enrich and bring joy to some of us out here who may need a vicarious escape and positive note at times. And, at this ime, I'm sure it's helping alot of other folks. So, thanks. And, if you get camping near Woods Lake SW of Telluride, PM me, I'd love to invite you up to the property for a coffee. Stay safe and Happy travels! ...the San Juans are gorgeous! Curious where you're off to next. ;) LG
Thank you so much! Glad you chimed in. :)
Really liked this one! I’ll put it on my bucket list map.
Another BEAUTIFUL video Catherine. I was able to watch a few more yesterday around the birth of 3 Long haired Chihuahua Puppies. The music in the background I really believed helped the mama in her labor. She did great. With a world so full of issues it would do everyone good to get outdoors and enjoy God's creation. Perhaps there would be more love for each other and appreciation for our Heavenly Father's creation for us. Thank you so much for bringing this AWESOME creation of God to us. I truly believe we all need to open our hearts and minds to God's love. Creation cries out with HIS Majesty!
Absolutely Breathe Taking! 💕
Thank you for sharing your visit to Ouray. At 72, I still remember my first trip there when I was five years with my parents. My last visit was nearly twenty years. I have lovely memories of our many visits there. It was one of father’s favorite places to visit.
Just to take in the beauty. Thank you.
Wonderful Vid... My teenage son just got back from a Week trip to Ouray with his friends. He was telling me about hiking the Perimeter Trail, and how beautiful it was.. It was great seeing your video of where he was.. I remember loving Ouray when I passed through it back in the 80's..
Another AMAZING video Catherine!! The music you selected is excellent; it really fits the video, and the scenery is spectacular!! GREAT JOB once again!!
Great vid 👍🏼
I’ve spent a lot of time in the San Juan’s. Gotta get back there again soon. It’s gorgeous in the Fall too! ❤️
I always look forward to your videos. Beautiful scenery and your edits are the work of a craftsperson. Also who ever added a thumbs down, I can't imagine this type of video would not brighten anyone's day.
Love,love , love Ouray !
Nice job the million dollar hwy is a beauty of a drive , I'm running into some Fed and State camp grounds open and closed . Canadian border closed no Alaska today . Another great video . Go Cat
We met a couple in Durango while at their Aribnb home who said that in the winter they drive up to Ouray to ice limb the waterfall there - it my be Cascade falls. Hard core enough, the husband has a prosthetic leg below the knee of one leg and leads the climb. We left Durango to tour the stunning Million Dollar Hwy and spent the night in Ouray. Wow. What a beautiful setting. Thanks for your wonderful capture of this rugged area.
Wow! That is awesome! When I was home, I volunteered my photography services to a non profit called Life Rolls On. The founder is a quadriplegic. They organization takes folks with physical disabilities and/or missing limbs surfing. Those folks are my heroes. There positive attitudes even with there physical limitations never ceased to amaze me.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures I was impressed. He had a special ice claw attachment for his prosthesis that enabled him to get a good purchase on the ice. Quite innovative. Around here in the Northwest, there are some trails that are being modified to allow for wheelchair access further up the trails than previously. Why not, eh?
These films capture an essence of the wondrous experience of nature- the enormous and tiny beauty- all observed and recorded. But more than that especially with the music and views they capture the undefinable , euphoric ethereal feeling that nature gives us.
Great calming video......love the very slow panning, my eyes can keep up with it.....love you in the tunnel too!
My grandsons and I went there at least 3x. We fished...mostly. love it!!
Such beautiful places you take us Catherine, thank you.
This was really beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing your journeys. It really lifted my spirits to see such amazing scenery.
550 is just spectacular especially in early October. That and 12 in S. Utah just can't be beat.
I love Ouray! We camped there about six years ago after spending three weeks in the heat and sand of Moab, Utah. The coolness and alpine air were heaven! The hot spring showers were a balm to my parched body and soul. So glad you’re there experiencing it for yourself.
Loved the perspective of the waterfall shot. Great for appreciating the grandeur. You looked so tiny compared to what I expected. Bambi was adorable too.
What a great way to start off a Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Very nice. When I'm in Telluride again for the bluegrass festival, I'll be sure to set aside some time for Ouray.
So beautiful! Thank you, as always. Enjoy your summer and stay safe! 😉🇨🇦
Thank you Marian!
Another awesome video! The grand wide shots of the town and surrounding mountains mixed with the soothing music was perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Wow that is some hiking trail for sure, thank you 👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟👍👍
I love Ouray (they say Yur-ay)...and Silverton and the whole area...grew up in CO and live in Washington now-I miss being able to get to that area more frequently 💕
Thank you for bringing us along with you. Colorado is a magical place.
Your videos truly feed the soul.
The early bird gets the worm and the second mouse gets the cheese..;)
`What does the early worm get?
@@DannyB-cs9vx The chance to set up a perimeter, fortify the castle and watch for birds..
What a wonderful surprise to have such a beautiful video to watch while I had my sunday coffee.
The first falls is like Silver Falls I took a month ago in Oregon, I posted photos.
Yes, everywhere is very crowded this year. Your right, the 5am club get the best trail time.
Thanks Kat.
Thank you John! Hope all is great.
@@CatherineGregoryAdventures as I'm sure you know, California is now back to non essential, person to be quarantine at home and restricted travel again. Tough to get out.
Be safe and stay well. Cant wait to see your backpacking trip, I suppose in Colorado.
I did get out last weekend just before lockdown started last Monday.
My Hope's are high to do more traveling soon.
I've watched a few channels of CZcamsrs going to Ouray within the Jeeping community. I was shocked you were taking your truck camper up there. You' re brave woman , Cat. Once again, awesome videography, Ouray is on my bucket-list as well.
As always cat you do such a awesome job! The camera work! The music! Just awesome thank you.
Great video Catherine! I need to go there in the future.
BREATHTAKING BEAUTY COLORS SCENERY VIEWS VIDEO ! YOU COULD SEE THE OLDER BUILDINGS FROM THE NEWER ONES WHEN YOU'RE GOING THROUGH TOWN . VERW BEAUTIFUL AREA . DID YOU GET A CHANCE TO EAT IN TOWN ? GORGEOUS VIDEO ! BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! ENJOYED !
My parents used to live east of Durango, so I have been to Ouray several times. Un fortunately, it was never a destination, only a place to drive through. Now I know it has a lot to offer for hikers.
Wonderful footage, and what an awesome campsite you had! Love Ouray in all seasons.
Another great video. I never heard of this place before but will definitely add it to my list of hikes to do. Thanks for sharing
Amazing location ,, absolute breathtaking beauty around every corner.......... Thank You for sharing this ...........Stay Safe and God Bless.....
Lots of familiar sites in this one too! Familiar too with the road up to Yankee Boy Basin, one of the best wildflower spots in Colorado. Thanks for the closing shots of 550 and all the gorgeous scenery I'm missing out on this summer.
Another great video, thanks for sharing and all your hard work to produce it.
Another great video. Red Mountain Pass is beautiful but can be very dangerous in a snowstorm. I went over it in a blizzard once and had to open the door and stick my foot out to see if there was road next to my truck! Thank God for the snowplow that came along. There is a memorial along the road for the snowplow drivers who lost their lives. Thanks for taking us along on your journeys.
I visited Ouray about 20 years ago, hot springs, mountains, nature. I'd love to go back.
Ouray is one of the coolest towns ever. Such friendly people and so many outdoor activities. And the drive on the Million Dollar Hway to Durango is spectacular. But just as you said, the hiking crowds can be overwhelming so an early start is highly recommended :) Thank you so much for yet another beautiful and calming video. Be well and play safe!
Stunning video content and image quality. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! That is beautiful. We’ve been to Colorado but never visited Ouray. We will add that to the list!
Thanks and have a wonderful week!
Hi Catherine😊😊! I have been to Ouray at as part of large road trip through AZ, UT, and Colorado. Ouray is one of those places that is just so SPECTACULAR that you must stop and explore the area. I have also hiked to both of the waterfalls and really enjoyed being there that I decided to spend 2 nights there and explore more. I'm so glad I did. Great video Catherine😊!
Another beautiful journey! Thank you for sharing Catherine!
Wow! Spectacular - you're dragging me back to Colorado for Ouray! Thanks for showing the town. Great mountain gravel road you were on there. You sure know how to ride out a pandemic - stay well and keep showing us the beautiful places - compliments on the excellent photography capturing the great scenery of the San Juan Mountains.
Thank you Steve!
Another wonderful video journey! Thank you! 🤙
Great video! I definitely have to visit that place at some point! Looks amazing!!!
Catherine. May I suggest driving to Telluride and visit Lizard Head pass and visit the tiny town of Ophir...incredible hiking and wilderness
This December it will be 40 years since I moved from Colorado to New York. Never made it to Ouray, but now I really want to go. Great video. Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to share these amazing places with everyone, your an inspiration and I hope to some day to enjoy these places for my self.
Beautiful area, you did it justice. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful country & I loved that little town as well! Thx for sharing Cat :)
Kat, your videos are awesome! Loved the intro, great music.
If you go back there in mid Sept to early October you’ll be rewarded with glorious fall colors from Durango to Silverton to Ouray to Telluride with a special stop in Ridgway.
This was my morning meditation. What beauty. I want to see that some day. Just added that to my bucket list, thanks to you. 🤗
Thanks so much for the video’s. We’ve been in that area, but didn’t have enough time to explore.
Gorgeous and relaxing, thank-you!
Beautiful country. You make each spot visited that much more beautiful.
Stay safe, take care and adventure on
Thanks for taking us along! Happy Trails
very good video. very nice production and cuts. i like the music you used. relaxing, soothing, contemplative. nice flow to the whole thing. good job!!
Simply beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
0:10 - there's my house! Nicely done video. When you come back some hikes to consider include Bear Creek, Portland Loop, Corbett/Dallas Loop, Sutton Mine, Oak Creek/Silvershield. There's also the Uncompahgre Gorge that you missed which is the word's latest ice climbing park in the winter - but wait - they just opened a Via Ferrata in the gorge. When you turned your truck around because of the overhang you missed the Camp Bird Mine (Canyon Creek Rd), access to Yankee Boy Basin (spectacular wildeflowers), as well as Govenor Basin (and also 4x4 Imogene Pass to Telluride, the 2nd highest 4x4 pass in North America). Hiking via Yankee Boy Basin includes My Sneffels, the only 14er in the immediate Ouray area. The are was used for a lot of the original True Grit shooting...there's so much to see around here I hope you can make it back and spend more time, especially in September when the aspens start changing - its amazing.
Wow! Thank you for all the excellent recommendations! I will definitely be returning. I loved it there!
Well hi there....I'm at 3:52!
thank you Catherine i think i will be adding Ouray (u ray) to my places to visit list along with a few more of your videos awesome views
Sooo beautiful. Thank you Catherine.
Another beautiful video. Thank you Catherine.
Wow! Absolutely beautiful scenery and perfect musical accompaniment. Keep up the amazing work and stay well.
Thank you Todd!
Beautiful scenery and music. Thank you for letting me go along.
Thank you for another great video!!!! Inspiration at it's finest!!! Hello from Prescott Arizona!!!!
So wonderful, I have traveled that Million Dollar Hwy a few times, it always is breath taking...have a safe Journey..
From fumbling steps, thru the richest parts of the West, you have accomplished great things as a person. As humble as you are, take some pride...Thanks
Thank you for another stunning video and glimpse into our beautiful country!
Ouray is my go-to place when I want to paint beautiful and recharge my batteries at the same time. It spoils me for everywhere else.
Thank you for another beautiful, peaceful video Catherine. It's also cool to see you and another of my favorite channels (venture4wd) exploring the same area of my favorite state at the same time.
