  • Come along with us as we explore an off-the-beaten path cave here in Tennessee. With a written description of tight, more tight, and very tight not sure exactly what we expected but we sure found out what it meant!

We have over 11,500 known caves here in Tennessee. It's a great place to live for cavers 😊

Superb! HATS OFF to you ALL! (No really, have to take the hard shell off to get through). I think this is your best post up to date. Really enjoyed this one. I have so much to comment on this but will keep it short. A good caving bud (like my friends) what have just stomped on my head until I got through, that's a real caving friend. I am just kidding of course. Thank You for sharing the True meaning of the sport. Your Number ONE on real caving.

Why do Cavers do this to themselves, lol

Since there is such a volume of air exiting out of the entrance, do you every try and find out where the air is actually entering the cave? Not just this cave but any cave? My stomach was feeling bad watching all those tight passages, I definitely would not have liked to be in that cave...

Yes, sometimes there will be a second entrance that will cause a cave to breath, especially when there is low pressure on the surface, the higher pressuer in the cave will force the air out. In the summers here, caves with an uppper and lower entrance, they will blow out the bottom. The cave sucks air in the top and pushes it out. In the winter, it is reversed and the lower entrance will suck in air and push it out of the top. Also big cave passage, known as borehole, domes and waterfalls in caves can also creat a lot of air flow.

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but do people ever use carbide lamps for caving or is everything LED and battery now?

I used one for years and loved it. Now most people don't. The high Teck Lighting makes it much easier and safer. I'm not even sure if you can even find these much anymore. That was NOT a stupid question, in fact a good question. I still have mine but believe it may be more to keep as a collectible than use.
