My life since I’m really shy
Totally agree with the whole "afraid to talk to store workers" thing. I was looking for a shirt at hot topic recently, and a store worker asked "can I help you?" And I started SWEATING and said "N-no" and left. I still have not acquired said shirt.
I can relate to you because I have always been a shy person ever since kindergarden. I remember my whole class reading from books or at least trying to read. Meanwhile I wasn't even talking a bit. My teacher would try to make me say them but I was just looking straight to her eyes like " Please don't." Unfortunately I live in a country which has people who will call you "coward" when you show them that you are shy. Also my parents are saying" If you avoid any kind of interaction with people, they will never respect you." Because of that I force myself REALLY hard to talk with them. I still feel uncomfortable deep inside whilst talking but I don't care that much about it as I used to be.

A) Look like a pauper
B) Avoid eye contact and never smile
C) Move super fast
D) Keep looking at the camera or over your shoulder

You'd lose. If a store owner feels they have reasonable cause to suspect (especially if they catch you looking sketchy on camera), they'd be in the right. Many people have tried this, but they've never won.

I don't naturally focus on one point, like a face, when i'm listening, so I have to actively do so and focus on keeping it. In order to pay full attention to a conversation I let my body wonder as my brain and ears are processing and recording the conversation. I kinda turn off my eyes. If i try to look at the person i'll start noticing their features and get distracted.
I made a verb for it as a kid: i say i am butterflying around
A lot of People get mad at me for this, including teachers and my mom, so I often need to explain

As someone who worked out on the floor at a Macy’s; I can tell you: No, it is not weird to go into a store and not buy something. My section was right by the mall door too. So people were coming in and out all of the time. Plus Security will deal with theft. That was so above my pay grade.
Ok so this is kinda random but I had this friend who would never spend the night anywhere, not even my house. For almost 2 years I didn’t know why she was like that, but later I figured out that she was really insecure and was actually afraid of being away from home for longer than half a day. She also skipped out on alot of school trips and never wanted to go vacationing with her family. Anyway if you read this much, thanks for reading my rambling lol.

We don't even notice that you've come into the store. We don't notice when you leave. You're just a face that exists somewhere that we're only vaguely aware of. No need for anxiety, because you have not been noticed and no one is judging you.
actually my mom works l.p. witch means loss prevention they only watch you if your acting suspicious they got eyes in you at all times

i have worked in stores before, i know that people wont notice me, and even then i have to remind myself that whenever i'm leaving a store without shopping anything

Having worked in retail both behind the counter and in LP when I was younger, I can honestly say that we were mostly grateful that people didn't use the hidden corners as restrooms or stuff half-eaten sandwiches in behind the Lucky Charms.
In LP we spent most of our time watching the employees because they're way better at stealing than you are.

Ashley Kendall That qualifies you as an introvert. Introvert doesn't mean never talking to people ever. It means not being comfortable talking to people you don't know (or don't know well) or being outgoing outside of your comfort zone. Many introverts turn into "extroverts" when around friends.

I feel like an easy fix to the “get in, look around, and get out” situation would be to buy a snack, drink, or some miscellaneous item. I’m pretty sure all places have some kind of snack

@@yinnakatomi509 Former cashier of 7 years here. In the US at least, it's pretty common for stores to tell their employees to just let thieves leave. Our job is to prevent fraud at the point of sale.The liability of getting sued over a false "arrest" is just not worth it for the store. It's part of our training to observe theft, but not engage with it. That's what loss prevention is for.

2:14 - 2:22 almost this exact scenario happened to me recently, I was looking for those white rectangular erasers and couldn't find any next to the sign for them, but rather than just asking "hey are you sold out of these" I huddled in the corner and looked up the exact store I was literally inside to see if they were in stock or not

This was four years ago, Jaiden, but I recently ended my employment as a bagger at Ralphs. I can tell you for a fact that most everyone in the store do not care if you walk out of a store without buying anything. Some managers might, but AT LEAST 80% of the store does not care at all. I work at Walmart, and they have a rule there that if a customer walks within ten feet of an employee then the employee has to ask the customer if they need help finding something. I kinda found a way to read people's faces to find out if they might need help finding something.
It's a good rule, cause it helps the shy people who don't like initiating conversations, and helps me (the same kind of person) to more easily initiate conversations. Win win.
I work at Marshall’s and I’m constantly focused greatly on what I’m doing so I don’t notice people around me, but sometimes i can pick up on their conversations and usually it’s them not knowing where something is so I help them. Like “oh! I know where that is” like I wasn’t just weirdly ease dropping.

I've had times where I wanted to make people know I was focused on them while they spoke to me, which to me means eye contact. I end up focusing so hard on eye contact, that I can only focus on one of their eyes. Then I end up missing everything they said because I spend the rest of my time arguing with myself about which eye I should focus on, if they notice me only looking at one of their eyes at a time, if they see me switching between eyes, and how weird I look when I try to force my eyes to separate enough to look at both their eyes at a time.
I'm pretty sure some people have actually been distracted by this, so I try not to do it much anymore. Especially as I never actually know what they are saying afterwards anyways.
It's probably best to hear what people say to you rather than to have eye contact.

Well, for me as an autist and introvert your interaction problems are totally relatable. For me mimics and body language don't come naturally, I have to do most of it conciously, which takes away concentration from actually listening. So when I really listen to somebody my eyes just focus on an imaginary point somewhere in the vacinity of the other person's head or even on some random point in the background. And I probably don't look too interested while listening, but I make it clear i actually _am_ listening by e.g. asking followup questions or bringing up some information from a similar context in my life, etc.

LITERALLY NOT EVEN KIDDING i was at target with a few of my friends and we were standing kind of in the doorway waiting for our other friend to finish paying for something when we see these two people who go to our school walk in. now instead of acting like normal, sensible, reasonable people and ignoring them, one of my friends screamed "MISSION ABORT" at the top of her lungs before we all DEAD SPRINTED to the other end of target scattering across the whole store and literally hiding for a god ten minutes...

Lissen. I get you. I am PETRIFIED of department stores. I'm always Googling "where in Walmart (in my location) can I find (X) item". And I don't think I've ever once touched that Costco card I got since living on my own.
Also if it makes you feel better, I don't go to the other local grocery store with better prices SOLELY BECAUSE it does not have a self check-out. The last thing I want to do with people while grocery shopping is talk to them, but if I don't talk to the clerk then I come off as rude, and I don't want to do ANYTHING to make myself come off as a rude or stupid customer.
