I’m surprised this video has not been taken down. Doing something like this without the proper clearances makes the rest of us look bad. There is a popular video that addresses a different CZcamsr who illegally surfed on elevators.
i'm glad its not me, but i am happy someone did this, because like many of you, i want to see how this elevator works,,,, thats why you watched this video...
In college, while living in the 6-story dorm the first semester, I discovered elevator surfing! Once I figured out there was enough clearance on top when the elevator was on 6, I was off to the races. Not the safest hobby, but it made those long weekends a little more interesting! I remember climbing the shaft from the 2nd floor to the 6th. There were these metal guide brackets that allowed for this. My dumbest moment came when I decided one time while standing on the inside ledge of floor 4, to hop onto the roof of the elevator as it approached. It was like getting hit by a truck. Being 18 and resilient, I shook it off. There were passengers aboard at the time. I'm sure they wondered what that loud thump was. These cars did not have cables on top. They were 6-story tall hydraulic lift elevators.
OH MY GOODNESS, first off, that would probably be the scariest lift to surf on especially when it's at normal moving speed + there's not much room to be on for the glass lifts. Secondly, I bet people seeing you on the top would probably confuse them
When was this taken? Because the elevators at Marriott Marquis right now on April has some advertisement pictures on the inner doors. Also, the 8th floor was under maintenance!
Please do not attempt something like this again without training and permission. There are signs that was unauthorized in this video. You are never supposed ride on top of an elevator at full speed. Thats what the inspection mode is for. Unauthorized things like this makes the rest of us in the community look bad.
Ada requires a minimum of 3.5 feet from the top of the door to the roof of the shaft also, keep in mind that in most of these shafts go like 5 stories above. Also the elevators that go all the way up like car f to like floor 49 umm the machine room is on 51
Access to these car tops are extremely difficult. He has to be a technician. I worked on these elevators since 1983 . He accessed a low rise inner core in the beginning and a High Rise Looks like Car B on the high speed , also had to have a person inside pushing call buttons for car to run high speed. If car is on car top control Car will not run from Inside . Car top control is gained thru two separate keyed switches!

MY GOSH that space is so cramped. Some of these scenic elevators dont give much room at all on top.
Even worse, inspection didn’t work on half the cars nor were they code compliant. Imagine being out of control on that thing.
@@metropolitanelevators that would be scary. Very dangerous condition.

Made my hands sweaty. I wouldn’t even go inside the elevator, let alone on top!
Same
WHOA! Absolutely scary when at full speed
Ive ridden on these several times and they look like something out of sci fi pulp fiction

Maintenance guy bit surprised at the end

lol
looks like we have ourselves a chatterbox
I can surf on anyting
No fun allowed ok
The only danger here is if someone decides to go all the way up. How much clearance is there between the elevator and the shaft ceiling?

this would probably be pretty scary to do on car F because I think car F goes a bit faster than the other high rise cars
Car F is faster, because it serves 46, 48 and 49 (55).
How we’re you able to in the elevator shaft?! I was shocked. Did you used like an elevator drop key?
He's probably a maintenance worker or something, so yes.
@@andrewschannel4259 He's not a maintenance worker.
I don’t understand? You’re in the elevator? How?!
01:10 That Elevator going down is Car M.
How did you do that
I thought this was April fools at first
This is scary
how did you open the doors into the elevator shaft?
A drop key.
How Did You Manage To Get The Camera Into The Elevator Shaft?
He was physically in the shaft.
Camera movement was too rapid when panning/looking around. Please slow down camera movements.
why is this more common in europe than the US
Because some of our laws are too strict. Personally I see nothing "criminal" about this. Can be dangerous, yes. Should be a crime. NO.
@DieselDucy should be regulated atleast, as in supervised by a technician. But I see why it's illegal - it's a hazard, especially on a scenic one
Better safe inside the elevator than outside the elevator.

Very nice video.
Isn't this risky to do in the USA?
Depends on the building. Elevators like these are very risky.
@@metropolitanelevators did you get permission to do this?
@@user-sn1qx1tm4lno
It's risky to do anywhere in the world!
*æ* .wow
Do you work for Schindler?
no💀
Do you know what the bitting code for a 1620 key is?
lol I'm pretty sure it is part of name
@@DatamasterCorporation the bitting code is five digits, not four
@@hilo2-est3-elev I forget what it is but its like 11620 or something like that. Just look it up
@@DatamasterCorporation google said it’s 66420
@@hilo2-est3-elev Possibly it is the other NY elevator key that is the same bitting as the name.
How DARE you attempt this
Is that legal
no :(
i could never at full speed :skull:
Riding those down was risky
2:38 also
Wow
This is how people die.
Wow, I did not expect to see you here.

Cancelled 😡
How did you do that
