He definitely still smiles at the audience to this day lol. It’s pretty cool tbh, although my dad thinks it’s a little creepy. Apparently Billy does it to make playing the guitar so well look easier than it is. Super cool.
Hey --- when I used to play bass on stage at concerts, i used to spread my legs and grin like Billy Zoom. Straight up props and respect. And people would say, "Who's that motherfucker playing bass." I rocked that shit.
that might be true, but back then many people didn't have tattoos. mostly because they could actually be troublesome unlike now were they are a status symbol
@@PanaGringoBarefootBass they were not the LA punk sound. But, they were the safest punk band. Easier to market. There were far better bands than X in the LA punk scene
@@MH-zg5yw WHO? I was a part of the scene. Black Flag, FEAR, Circle Jerks, The Cramps, ect. ect.? I guess it's a matter of taste. X was one of the firsts that actually knew how to play their instruments.
@@MH-zg5yw Hahaha....believe what you want. Aside from the Minutemen (who were great players and great guys) name another punk band from LA county that actually KNEW how to play instruments BEFORE punk was punk. Most from those days were from OC. Hence, NOT the LA scene. Just another f***king moron arguing for the sake of arguing.
Never forget seeing them at The Observatory Dec. 7, 2013. I was in the front and got my camera ready to take a pic of Billy Zoom. He saw me at a distance and stopped to give a funny face for the pic! Awesome.
Johnyy Ramone said punk was the descendents of 1950s greasers. X (and maybe the Cramps) were the only ones who really epitomized that. Unfortunately punk just became hippes who snear.
@etherashe5164 It’s a clip from the classic punk doc, The Decline Of Western Civilization Part I. My favorite movie of all time. It’s got Black Flag, The Germs, X, Fear, Circle Jerks, The Bags, and even Catholic Discipline. Plus a little section about Slash Magazine.
Dead drunk in the middle of 6th just west of downtown nearly got run over by a bus. Saw it coming though and did a face plant onto the sidewalk. Walked back to Hill and got the next bus home. Not a typo, that's sort of how it happened. Maybe I wandered around for a few hours but not sure 'bout that.
toasty138 X.....still underrated! Was at a GWAR -BQ gig in VA which featured Descendants as headliners ( not Gwar?) when they played their encore....yep , you guessed....JH&R Pauline.
John and that voice. Saw them 12/30/23.
Sounds the same.
Always loved how Billy smiled at the audience. In the context of the music it comes off as oddly menacing.
I saw them in the Marquee London around 1982, stood in front of smiling Billy - I thought any minute he’s gonna kick my face in
He definitely still smiles at the audience to this day lol. It’s pretty cool tbh, although my dad thinks it’s a little creepy. Apparently Billy does it to make playing the guitar so well look easier than it is. Super cool.
Got to see them a lot back in my reckless LA youth, and through the years, such a great, unique band, thanks for posting!
Billy Zoom has to be one of my favourite guitarists. His combination of punk and rockabilly styles is essentially the 'X' sound!

He's absolutely kickass. I've seen X live and he positively kicks the crap out of most guitarists on this planet. Just awesome! Great band!
When I saw X, while the others were running around the stage acting crazy, Billy Zoom was relaxed pumping out those riffs.
Saw x at fenders ballroom in Longbeach 1985 they crushed it
John is a smoke show. 🔥 what a babe .
Billy Zoom is just on a different level.
one of the best songs all times in the history of music LA ruled!
The days of the musicians in an alcoholic daze but still able to perform brilliantly!
Billy Zoom and his SMILE
Oh my god, John Doe looks like a damn teenager.
I love this band.
The Best Time of my 54 years life!!
Zoom is always there like Gabriel, music of a lifetime. Thanks, Billy Zoom. I was there!
A few mins ago I went by the house where John and Exene lived off of Santa Monica Blvd. Their names are etched in the concrete curb.
I’ve seen a picture of that curb etching !!! Super cool. I hope to see it myself one day lol
Impressive how Billy Zoom never misses a single god damn beat.
& smiles the whole way thru,,,
Gotta be one of the best punk guitarists ever. So deceptively hard to do that in X songs.
Junior B .....and he don't need no fucking tattoos to be cool
that might be true, but back then many people didn't have tattoos. mostly because they could actually be troublesome unlike now were they are a status symbol
Yeah getting a tattoo used to be a huge deal nobody gives a shit anymore though and it's not even that cool anymore .
I can't believe how young they were in this video!!
Nothing cooler than a rockabilly guy in a punk band BILLY ZOOM IS GOD
X is playing is Massachusetts tomorrow! I cant go.. .
God i love X!!! They captured the LA punk sound perfectly!!! They were and are just simply amazing!!! Love X!!!
They WERE the LA punk sound. No one could compare then or now. Period.

That Billy Zoom intro!
@hirepimike The guitar intro is actually taken from Chuck Berry’s song, Johnny B. Goode :)
Billy Zoom is rad tho

Billy Zoom makes it look too easy. His cool vibe combined with his effortless guitar playing...just can't top it. You know he's having a good time.
I saw them around 1992 in Wimington, NC at Jacob's Run, a tiny punk club that was a stop on the Underground Railroad...
SOOOO GREAT!!!!
The standout song from the 'Decline of western Civilization' movie
I watched this film for the first time today and couldn’t stop thinking about this particular performance
X - you all are the GREATEST - was there early 80's still here-
SUch a freakin KILLER AND classic tune frm one of the best original wave L.A. punk bands.
One of best versions I’ve ever heard.! X
Folks, there's a REASON why there are no X tribute bands: they can't pull it off. Too many chord changes, etc.
Buena guitarra, sucia y rápida, bien punk, como un amanecer lluvioso con sabor a sangre y cerveza.
How about X playing halftime at the Superbowl? Love X!
I really don't care for x but I dig they're guitar player and the lick for this song is killer.
