    You might get somebody to help you do that. The product is the right product but your technique needs a little more aggressive amount of patch. Just spread it over the top of the crack. Don't stick your trowel or putty knife in the crack and use a damp sponge to clean up the edges. Go faster too. Don't mean to be hard on you. Just trying to help. You may want to clean out the concrete chips in the crack.

    Im about to do around my home because i damaged it by putting ice melt on it (dang)the weather is getting nice son-its time to get it done.

      I had no idea ice melt damages concrete! And here I was walking around complaining about the builder. Arrgh! Back to using my whiner kid to shovel our sloped driveway. Thanks for the heads up!

    Hi .. I tried some of this for my cracks in my garage and it worked fine. But I have a huge problem with my driveway, in that every year I've been pouring crappy Canadian Tire Black Knight asphalt crack filler and it's garbage. Every year the cracks open even wider. My concern with using this the patch concrete is that there is no give and flexibility with it . I am going to maybe try a caulk method. thanks Nan

    • @LEARNINGCHORDS
      @LEARNINGCHORDS  Před 3 lety

      they do make a flexible caulk for that.. good luck putting the caulk in the crack

      I'm no expert but you should overload the cracks so when you apply pressure it will fill the cracks as deep as possible...you're were too gentle on your application.

    Shouldn't you wet the concrete first to help it bond, the finish looks rough dry?

  • @50hellkat2
    @50hellkat2 Před 3 lety +1

    Go over it with a wet sponge to smooth it out

  • @joebobb7349
    @joebobb7349 Před 6 lety +2

    My patch mixture was much more crumbly than this. I guess next time I'll try adding a little water to the tub and stirring it in to see if it becomes more spreadable.

  • @saulgoodman2018
    @saulgoodman2018 Před 5 lety +2

    The premix stuff is crap. They will start to set up as soon as you open it.
    So it you have any left over, it will be dried in a couple months.

    Don’t you have to wet the cracked area first? Or it has to be applied in dry? I need to do some repairs and I would like to use this product.

    • @jonathangomez9054

      Add some bonding agent to it before putting the mud on, and before the bonding make sure to take like wire brush and clean it from all the dust

      Wetting the area of repair Depends on what type of concrete material you use

    Divine payback for me being an asshole.....It rained on a small slab I had just finished, washed a little away. A fairly large storm. I finished at night. A tray I thought was empty had paint left in it. Blew over into the street. I am out there on my knees with a bottle of Dawn, a scrub brush and a garden hose. I got most of it, the road was still wet enough.

    I’m doing my driveway cracks tomorrow using that stuff. But I’m definitely going to try and smooth it out more maybe with damp sponge. Your finish looks crumbly and chunky. Don’t really like the look of the product. If mine turns out looking like yours I’m going to hammer it out and try a different product. Just saying...

    That 4 inch wide putty knife is too wide, should be using a 2 inch. Also you need to keep the lid on that patching compound as much as possible as it will quickly start hardening and be unusable in a short amount of time as you found out as you could not
    even come close to doing the job correctly. Find or buy a thin piece of sheet metal and put some of that compound on it and then place the lid back on the pail. Now quickly using the putty knife and holding that piece of sheet metal with the compound on it right next the crack, using that putty knife slide off the compound into that crack and press it in, over filling it a little. After using up all of the compound that you put on that piece of sheet metal, smooth the compound out. Remove the lid and repeat as described as often as needed.
    should be using a 2 inch knife.

    That finish looks horrendous! Is that the final look or did you just not smooth well enough? Do not want my drive looking like a spackled ceiling!

    • @pensive69
      @pensive69 Před 5 lety +2

      when cracks need minor patching here i have found sand to be a great final top finish.
      color is a darn good match to old weathered concrete and it adds traction to the repaired areas. spread out lightly after floating or broom finish and press down evenly.
      look for the "natural" sand as described on the bags.

    • @waterhead1029
      @waterhead1029 Před 5 lety +1

      I don't know how sand would have worked on the elastic caulk. I might have tried some in a spot, it is shiny where I painted, but shitloads better than a crack, so it would have had to be satin sand (?) Don't think they sell it.

    Sorry but that looks worse. You need to wet area first and after applying patch use a wet sponge to smooth area and blend. Just my opinion.
