Autonomous XQ-58A Valkyrie is the perfect wingman to military pilots

- Looking like something out of cult TV show Thunderbirds, the advanced XQ-58A Valkyrie is a leap forward for developing AI and air power.
The high-speed and low-cost Valkyrie unmanned drone has been operational since 2019, and today can act as a wingman to military pilots undertaking a variety of missions.
The US government wants to substantially expand the role of autonomous jets, using so-called collaborative combat aircraft to support crewed fighters.

The machines rose from the ashes of the nuclear fire.
Hey I saw that old movie too
J-5 is alive, no disassemble
Input..need input 🤖
When did we say Skynet becomes self aware?
if you had to ask then it's already done, and we're still asking because we still don't know how to understand the answer
Movies aren't reality
Tuesday week, weather permitting.
Straight out the movie stealth.
Was going to say seen that movie.
Exactly Ai drone and plane I think next generation for fighter use mode AI, pilot optional.
JATO never gets old= AWESOME
I like both the Valkyrie and Ghost Bat, I hope they both make the cut in separate categories.
MQ28A Ghost bat was not selected in USA Skyborg programme only Valkyrie and Anduril drones did. think Ghost bat did not because is Australian tech and only will be built in Australia making harder for replacement and parts..
Thank you
Australia looking to the future where the 9-dash line encompasses its territorial waters.
"Im sorry dave, im afraid i cant do that"
Ghost bat is a better platform and is in production right now
Groovy.
AI.....is very clever stuff....but also very frightening at the same time....😮😮
Modern super V-1
“All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again.”

Valkyrie- Good movie.
Ace Combat coming to life
I'm going to guess it would be nicknamed Caddy.
Better put the navigator back in fighter jets so they can fly lots of aircraft at once!
Guess the military never watched the movie stealth.
Australia MQ28A Ghost bat been testing crewed and uncrewed since 2021 and just anounced by Australian Defense minister is acceleration of block ii version a top secret never seen before model that is bigger and carries weapons will be in service with RAAF 2025.. that means fully operational in RAAF, not just testing and lines up with RAAF Commander interview 3 years ago stating the version we saw was just a test bed for the AI and airframe would hold up in real life flight conditions..
Ghost bat designed and engineered by Aussies with Australian AI. drone swarm capabilities also.
Ghost bat was in USA Skyborg programme and also show you are bad at your jounalism...
These drones would make the perfect close air defence on the battlefields of the future.
Imagine for each 10Km of the front line, there will be one small runway with a sqadrone of these drones, in combination with one arrow 3 starter, one iron dome battery and some Phalanx C-RAM or Mantis stations.
Nothing what flies in the air could pass through that air defence.
Australia built MQ28A Ghost bat to land and take off from small runways and said can use it on small roads with very few crew needed to service it, ideal for Asia Pacific areas if war broke out..
That would be too expensive. The Ukraine-Russian front line is 1,200km long. You'd want 120 squadrons of these things??
All of a suddenI feel very old.
I wonder if Boeing's drone will fall apart in flight, like their airliners do? 🤔
Built on an entirely different continent, by a subsidiary, currently in small numbers. So if it does, it would be for different reasons.
yey skynet
yey? Is that a typo?
Enders Game vibes.
I wonder, what the top speed is.
I’ve seen this movie.
Closed captioning = crude & uncrude that’s crewed and un- crewed , men will swear 😂!?
❤❤❤❤❤
Operating since 2019. What other weapons systems do the Americans possess that the world doesn’t know about? One can only imagine. 😂
Skynet is on the horizon
boring 80s references
There is nothing about these drones that will stop it getting shot out of the sky like any other plane.
True, but they are cheaper to build than a fighter jet, cheaper to run, and you don't risk a pilot that has many years of experience.
@@AenesidemusOZ True, but whats the point? Mission not accomplished.
The drones would have to be good as human piloted jets and used the same way. So make the F-35 into a drone. At least the pilot won't die.
@@TheBooban have you looked at the specs on the drones mentioned? They are big and fast, not the prop-driven ones we're used to seeing. They effectively ARE a fighter jet without the human and their necessary support systems.
👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
OK, what happens when they are hacked?
The ending of BOP 2.
Black ops 2 be like “Cordis Die”
Please stop basing your understanding of reality on tv, movies and video games
I believe it is air gapped

No piece of kit is "perfect", especially before it enters service and get all the bugs out.
This is just another advert for the OEM.
Serving officers need to secure those juicy jobs when they leave so the narrative is always like this.
@@meme4one Well I'm a serving Officer and I for one don't.
@@whya2ndaccount check you out sir. When you get in a position to be able to, you probably will. Generally Majors /SO2s and above, come their last posting, if it's anywhere around procurement, will be in bed with defence companies. Source. I've worked in defence for 20 years.
@@whya2ndaccount well my comments get deleted so whatever. I'm glad you're a good boy, officer or Walt.
@@meme4one Ah ok - I have no idea what a "walt" is though.
Well they need to be faster and mid air refuel .. What good is a loyal wingman if it can't keep up with an F-22 during super cruise or an F-35 during supersonic scramble into battle .. So far what i have seen is to slow ... Still good to see development .. However speed is it's shortfall ..
lol jets do not always cruise at supersonic speeds, so your comment is pretty bad.
Australia built MQ28A Ghost Bat to perform high risk missions on it's own fully autonomous and does not need a manned jet to do it...
@@nedkelly9688 Lol ... I always know I'm talking to an idiot when they start a comment with "LOL" The loyal wingman program is not to do what the globalhawk and other drones are already doing .. The Loyal wingman is supposed to be a sacraficial wingman behind the F-35 . Getting in the way of S-400 and s-500 surface to air misslile batteries . It was originally my suggestion so i find it comical that you have the gall to try correct me when the concept was mine ... "LOL".....
Uhhhhhh, I don't know about this as a wing man... Maybe as a flying bomb delivery agent. AI is not intelligent. It is simply a collection of instructions and it is only as good as those instructions. The problem is that humans are innovative. When presented with a new problem, we poke and prod- and find the weak spot. Not only that, in modern combat a wing man is supposed to fly on the senior pilots wing. He's there to keep his head on a swivel, aware of the battle space while his senior focuses on the target. AI can't do that and may respond in radically unpredictable ways to new situations. Don't expect AI wing men anytime soon.
And remember that no computer, regardless of how great the software is, thinks. To compare it to human thought, much less animal thought, is ridiculous. "Artificial Intelligence" is just a snappy marketing term. AI will greatly change the world, but it won't replace humans anytime soon- especially where adaptability is needed. In warfare, the one who adapts better usually wins. I mean look at Ukraine. Here you have a country fighting for its life against a much larger foe. But Ukraine has adapted new technologies- and stopped Russia in its tracks.
The scary part of AI is what people might do with it. I don't speak of slaughter bots like in Terminator. But governments are embracing AI to do all sorts of things detrimental to freedom. AI itself is neutral. Right now, everything I just wrote is being analyzed by an AI program- and added to my profile.
That's truly frightening.
Did chat gpt write that for you?
@@user-bq9wy9kx3y Oh no, I assure you, I used the outdated technology of a mind.
As an IT professional, I operate behind the mask of AI and actually know what it is. Have no fear friend of AI- but of those using it. That is where the true terror lives.
This is probably one of the best use case scenario's of AI. Not trying to invent or imagine, just crunch huge amounts of flight data in an instant. I have zero doubt the gov't has much more advanced "targeted" AI programs than the commercial stuff.
@@notme9976 Indeed. Worked in the defense industry as IT. There are things you can't imagine- stuff from the 1950's is still in use. It's amazing what a simple radio antenna can be used for.
And AI will and indeed has changed the nature of warfare. While it will definitely enhance the human presence on the battlefield, it will never replace it.
The use of an "AI wing man" will certainly be implemented as a missile or weapon carrying platform. But replacing a pilot? Never.
All you have to do is try something the AI is not programed for- and it won't know how to react. But if it is following a pilot next to it, it could be very useful indeed.
But as I mentioned before, AI is not intelligent. It does not think even at the level of an animal, much less a man. It does not think at all. And until someone invents a computer that acts like a brain, sort of like Data from Star Trek, there will be no artificially intelligent machines.
But the real threat lies in what corporations and governments can do with it- aye, there's the rub. CZcams is filled with fake AIs saying they want to kill us. Wrong, it is the corporations and governments of the world that want to control us. Killer I is just a distraction to prevent people from realizing what AI really is and can be used for.
@@ZombieGrandpa Sorry lil kid have you not seen USA AI F16 has outperformed human pilots in combat, yes AI is limited but with target recognition and tracking plus programme how to dog fight AI can perform very well autonomously and again going on Ukraine has adapted new technolgies in warfare. look back to 2020 why did Ukraine not use drones in war.. ohh because we gave them the technology. us West have been developing drones for warfare for years before Ukraine war.
Kurks airbase attack was Australian cardboard box drones. are 4 Australian drones in Ukraine war with fully AI and drone swarm AI
