  • Art Eichele, extraordinary guitar player and a great instructor shows you step-by-step how to professionally change the strings on your guitar. There's much more to it than just winding them onto the tuning peg. Art shows you how to lock the string onto the tuning peg so it will never loosen (and go flat). String your guitar this way. It will tune more precisely and stay in tune longer. Please rate and comment!

    I always see people using tools to pull bridge pins.
    Here's a tip after 40 years.
    Loosen the string, put your hand inside the body, and push the pin out. Won't risk damaging your pins or bridge. Thanks for the video.
    Nice one.

    Excellent video tutorial! Quick and concise yet he hit all the main points that I wanted to know and which is why I searched for this video. I compare it to one which did not make the grade which I just viewed before this one and all of the main points were glossed over. This video by contrast used excellent use of close-ups and the string the tuner the nut and the bridge and pegs. Especially so was the locking of the string into the tuner peg and which direction it went. I can’t praise this highly enough! When you see it done badly and it’s a source of frustration to see it done the right way is very gratifying! Well done sir!

    Make sure the slot in your peg is facing forward. Put the ball of the string in the hole as deep as it will go before you put the peg in. If needed, get some violin bow rosin and put a good coat of it on the peg before you put it in the hole. Don't tug straight up on the string. It is designed for tension to be exerted only in the direction of the tuning pegs. Hope this helps.

  • @donaldharris8826

    When I remove the Endpins, I use a Endpins Puller or Stringwinders usually have a Endpins Puller Slot built into them to use so metal plyers or cutting pliers do not damage the Endpins Heads or String Grooves. You can take and use a Guitar Pick or Wooden Round Disc or Popsicle Stick to press against the bottom of the Endpins applying pressure pushing upwards to remove Endpins from their Bridge Plate Hole Slots. Never wiggle Endpins out of their Hole Slots because you will wallow out the Hole Slots and may have to have your Hole Slots reamed out to a Larger size along with having to use a Larger Sized Endpins.
    I String my Strings through the Bridge and make sure that the Strings stay Straight with No Kinks, No Bends, No Serpentine Curves anywhere along the lengths of the entire strings from Bridge to Headstock Strings Post Holes. Any such makes a string Sound Out Untrue Tonally, Decreases String Resonance and Jeopardizes String Life & Longevity & will never Tune Up True & Maintain True Tuning & make sure any "Tuner's Gearing Backlash" is removed from Tuners Gearing Travel by Tuning Strings Down then back Up to Tune. Never Tune Strings Up Past the Tuning you use to play in, & then Tune Back Down to Tune you use to play in, because such Tuning Method will create Tuners Gearing Play or Backlash, which will make your Strings become Out Of Tune as the guitar sits idle as well as when you play it. These facts I learned years ago from a Master Luthier named "Frank Ford", along with the Luthier's Strings Posts Knots demonstrated in this "TRES GR8T Video Tutorial" by "FreedomSeeker01" , " Thanks" & Play On FretBro's & FretSis's . . . 👍😎🎸🤘☺️🎼🇺🇸🙏 DDH 7-11-2023.

    Almost every string wider that exists has a semi circle cut into the tuning key holder. The reason for this is so you can easily pull the bridge pegs out; you don't need to use wire cutters or any other tool to do this. If your winder doesn't have this feature, go buy one that does for a couple bucks at just about any guitar store.

    All you have to do, is run the entire string through the post. Back it up maybe a post-and-a-half's worth. Bend the excess toward the middle of the headstock. Wind the string down like a coil. Then bend the excess string back and forth until it breaks off cleanly. No need for clippers. No stickers to nail your fingers. However, you have to twice overwrap the string-through on the 1st and 2nd strings, otherwise, when you break off the strings, they will slip on the posts.
    Trust me. You will love having no stickers to draw blood. By bending the excess string toward the middle of the headstock, you form an "S" through the post, adding to a tight fit.

    So when you're tightening the bass strings you turn the peg away from you but the high strings, you need to turn the peg towards you ?

    • @freedomseeker01
      @freedomseeker01  Před 4 lety

      Yes. On a conventional acoustic. Not on a Tele or Strat though where all pegs are on the same side. Think of it as raising or lowering the pitch and just turn it in the direction that accomplishes what you want to do. Don't turn it without listening to what is happening. You don't want to over tighten and break your string.

    From here on, my go-to instructor on anything to do with the guitar and all its basics needs… I have been stringing, guitars the locking style for so long, following people like Joe Walsh, countless luthiers, people who work on my guitars over the past 30 years, and I am just now finding out how it's really done. I have a wrap on my guitar machine heads that ensures staying in tune until those strings are worthless. They sound beautiful - I am going to get laid by women who don't even know or could care less about guitar set up, but just by the enthusiasm of guitarists around me seeing how it actually gets done...... I don't have to tell any of you guys who have been around the block a few times how energy is what makes a woman enthused and amused to the point of being abused (although, I don't care if you're a Hells angel, I catch you abusing a woman and you're fucking done… Just kidding guys I'm just kidding 1000 times over but I had to make an extreme point )I have a Taylor just like the one he's working on, and I cannot believe that for the first time I did a professional job just by watching this guy..... I am so proud of myself, but it's this man who has instilled my pride. He's bigger than Jesus. And to think there's more to learn! Thanks, Art.

    Would like some accurate advice on how much slack to actually measure and use. And I don't think anyone should ever use wire cutters to remove the pegs at the bridge.

    • @freedomseeker01
      @freedomseeker01  Před rokem

      The amount of slack depends on the string. A very thin string can be wound around the peg many times with minimal bulk and no overlap whereas a wound E string will fill up the peg quickly. Just experiment a bit and allow progressively a little more slack on the thinner strings. Regarding the wire cutters, Art is holding them open at the ideal width to create a perfect two pronged pry bar. He has changed hundreds of sets of strings and I'm confident he has never cut or dented a peg using this method. Furthermore, he can cut whatever string whenever needed and doesn't need another tool to do it. Do what you want, but Art is the SME here. If you want to contradict his wisdom, you should maybe listen to him play guitar first. He changes strings as a courtesy to his customers yet, like all great guitar players, changes his own strings regularly because it is one of the essentials required for the awesome tone he can pull out of an otherwise inanimate object.

    Why in the hell would cut the string so sticks up to cut you when you accidentally rub against it. Just like idiots who cut zip ties with diagonal cutters. Leaves them razor sharp. I’ve been working on trucks and been playing Gutair for forty years. Been getting cut up from stupid people who do this. At least wrap the the excess a couple times, then cut it a 3/4 of a inch away so it coils into it self. And anyone who says you’ve never been stabbed by a string is a lier.

    • @freedomseeker01
      @freedomseeker01  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for chiming in so expertly, and kindly I might add. Cut the string off any way you want. You are free to make your own video if you don't like ours. Ragging about free content is relatively crude. Have a nice day, and don't cut yourself on anything sharp. BTW, when your video is finished, we'd be happy to link it here. Spellcheck..."guitar"..."liar"...
      I do like your comment about the sharp top on the string. It should at least be bent over a bit, especially if you have a soft gig bag that it could jab and tear up.
