I went to Massive Audio's own website, and their own rec. Ported enclosure specs. for this 12 inch, and it say's 1.8 cu. Ft. Net per 12, tuned @ 44Hz, with 28sq. In. Of port. I just looked on their site again, and they rec. (3.2 cu. Ft. Net per 15 inch!)
That should be downfiring so it has something to load off of.
Sorry, Im a Mmats guy, Juggs. 89.97 spl sensitivity 2000 continuous 20000 peak.
I have always liked the Massive lineup. Used to sell them 10-15 years ago.
I think this definitely shows the advantage of a constant power amp even with box rise
I like your pfp :))
I have just a regular hippo xl 122,pushing it with a sundown sia 3500,in a labyrinth design box i built, an i must say it beats my optima sx to death, i really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work
Those masssive hippos are solid! Great video per usual! 🔊🔥
Thanks for the review. HIFI
HiFi - great video as always.... love your style! Have a wonderful day and crank that puppy up! 🍻🌎❤️🎶🕺
Thanks!
@@HifiVega always welcome and always a pleasure! Take care good man! 😁🎶🕺
Great video. Let's build a box tuned to 27hz. It will sing so well at that tuning.
I put two dc audio level 6 15s in a d4s flat pack box. I added some internal bracing because the level 6s weigh 96lbs. The box is 6.50 cf and tuned to 32hz i believe. I have it on a wolfram 7500. But my point is i highly recommend the d4s flat pack. It was so easy and fun to put Together
Normally I'd never reply to anyone, however, I have to say sir, work on your roleplaying, because that is a terrible lie. Don't get offended, learn from it, why did I immediately become suspicious? Your wife/girl thinks the same way bud, you're giving too much info that no one but you would care about, it makes it obvious that it's not true. Someday you'll actually buy a DC lvl6 15" and on that day, you'll realize that all those specs you memorized went right out the window and you couldn't tell me how heavy it is if I begged, because knowing how heavy it is, isn't relevant.
@chickenpotpie4045 wtf are you even saying? You think I'm lying about having dc audio level 6 15s and that I just waste my time making shit up for fuck faces like you who can't afford them to tell me there's no way I can? Get a fuckin life. And get a better job too you bum
@@chickenpotpie40451st of your wife your married to a man! 2nd putting someone else down to TRY and make yourself feel a little better cause your a miserable POS must suck!
Yes a low tuned box would be great 👍
Definitely need to see it in a lower tuned enclosure
Fo sho
You really fooled me at the beginning! Haha.
I thought it was blown!
Great review. It sure is an SPL monster and should last a very long time; especially those brave enough to use in multiples.
Got eem
@@HifiVega
👍🏻😂👍🏻
Got em Coach
This brand sub has some of the highest sensitivity ratings around,, very good subs and get loud for sure however in my opinion they are very sensitive to clipping
Need more vids on this monster
Somebody had 2 of these in an Escalade and it was banging!!!
I bet
Great video and a decent sub.💯👍
Thanks
Cool shirt! Great video.
Thanks!
Nice little sub!!
I loved my massive 8k. Back in 2012
i have 3 of the 15 inch hippo xlr's and i use them for competing and they are loud and ive had mine for almost 2 years and they are still stiff but i dont play mine everyday either
I still have two of these but upgraded to fi audio mt 12’s. The fi are hands down better. They are rated at 4500 rms and handle it all day
Down4sound I did the 8³/did one single speaker in the back of my car when I shattered the back of my window does hippos they're pretty good
Definitely give it another box
I'd like to see an amp Dyno on that Massive amp. Looks big but rated low power.
Definitely love to see Amp dyno on that massive Amp. I like the looks of the Amp. How are the build and performance quality tho
I think it def needs to be dyno’d and opened up to see!
I had 2 10" of this in a 2015 Hd Silverado in a ported box under my back seet using 2" spacers for the seat, and let me tell u the hardest hitting subs i ever had, the only thing i did not like was that they over heat fast and u can smell the hot glue.
Been beatin my gtx 15s for years. Great Value imo.
Nice I like it.
Thank you! Cheers!
williston audo got 143 on a 6.5 inch yehaw, the freq's were great too
I must have missed that one!
Yo that's some Massive bass!
Couldn’t even push in the dust cap!
That's awesome
Thats alot of impedance rise. Good thing you got the bigger amp. How do you like those NVX full bridge? Its been reliable?
The NVX has been very solid and outside of being kinda of inefficient I’ve had very few complaints
i really do recommend re trying the lows after u know it is broken in fully. usually i would not agree that u need to break a sub in for it to play optimally, but these subs have super tight suspension. my hd 12's took a long time to break in because they were in a 4th order and ofc much like this sub a very tight suspension. one day i was driving to work and noticed i could play a bit deeper. OR maybe i'm wrong lol
I think you’re right and I def plan on doing another video in a different enclosure
how long did it take your subs to break in? I have two of these in a 6th order, and I am patiently waiting. LOL. I am running two Massive Nano EF4 amps. One per sub
Compare it to the Solo X in the same enclosure (obviously there will have to be a different baffle to go from square to round, but since they both are in the same price range I would rather have the Kicker but maybe Massive is worth a look…
Ive got a hippoXLR and its ok there are some things id change about it
same box, add a second sub to it , wired up in parallel on that massive audio amp. get it down to 1/2 ohm and see what it does with more cone area.
And seal the box?
The box would be at least 2 cubes 2 small and have 0 output
@@joshholden8561 Plus it would raise the tuning frequency.
Yes a different box please
Cool shirt bro
Thanks!
Love my 13w7ae's
Some of the best subs ever made
I keep seeing nemisis amplifiers. I have not seen any amp dynos on this brand yet. Or drive wdx series amplifiers
You should try the massive audio d6 amp on it.
Yes, try it in a different box
I have massive audio audio hippos and Gordos I would love to see you do another video with it in a different enclosure
You plan on letting the gordo go for a price?
@@tonyjasper4721 no sir I have 15s I'm looking for two more I almost had two more a couple of months ago
44hz fac rec tuning - wowza, that limits the range\type of songs ... if you can get ur hands\tools inside the box try adding 4-6" of port length to get it more musical ... usually spl subs like these will take a month or more of regular playing to get them broken in
I def wanna try it in another enclosure
What if he adds length to the dust outside of the box?
@@BASSstarletYou can add port lengths to the inside or outside of the box. The only difference is if you add port length to the inside you displace some of the net air volume of the enclosure.
At 44hz your basically free airing at 30hz range. I bet it would sound much better on music tuned lower. However impressive score!
I agree
Nah... they bottom out easily. This is a great burp sub, but it's definitely not a low-end monster.
@@Mr.NpK143 just my .02 cents, for daily, id have a box at 35hz, surely it can handle that.
@Blake-fz7ed I have friends with these subs and to be honest you'll get different opinions about its performance on the lows. But with that being said I have friends that generally use these subs in 40hz encas they sound awesome. Great sub though 👌
I’ve heard this sub on some big power
😮loud very loud
Fo sho
Give it 4 cubes and tune it to 30 hz i think it will do awesome
Fo sho
It won't get as low as my sundown xv3 12s or my psi or my dd or my fi I have a pair laying in my garage it's frequency is around 42 hertz it's best to tune it between 38 to 45 hertz it's made for rock and roll and spl its not a low hitting subwoofer at all sounds good if you looking for medium bass
@@ceciljones1248 you can make anything play low and sound good
4 cubes is too much. This is not a musically geared subwoofer. It is spl based.
@Chuck_Sanders He is going to blow it up I have two of them I don't really use them unless I'm looking for spl the frequency on them is 42 hertz so I would have to build a enclosure around 40 to 45 hertz I have a enclosure that is 32hertz and 4.64 cubic feet for two of them and the bass is not very deep sounds musical but not as low as sundown xv3 12s or my fi subwoofers
Goes to show with 1 sub full bridge amps have more power or 2 of them 22 ohm 2 2 ohm at half ohm wired is like 1.25 need 6k half bridge amp
The sub can play low. Try a 30 hz enclosure with that p8
6.5 massiv in the 6.5 kicker box from Amazon's tester😮
I’d like to see this subwoofer in a bandpass box
can you suggest a good 3" woofer please? Thank you
Audible physics, Morel, illusion Audio
So when it breaks in you think you’ll get more db?
I think so and I can test that later on after it has more play time on it
Toro force 12sr same woofer.
plenty of experience with this sub. after running dats through em the mfg specs are way off. they do have a high fs if not broken in but i was able to get a fs of 36 after thorough break in. They like smaller enclosures with larger deeper vents with a 32-34hz tune
DATs are wildly inaccurate. Manufacturers use klippel
how long does it take to break in ? I have two of these in a 6th order, and I am patiently waiting. LOL. I am running two the Massive Nano EF4 amps. One per sub
I have two 12s in my is200 lexus running a EF4 amp per sub in a 6th order bandpass .. Once I broke them in, I swore someone hit me with a gawd dam bat in the back of my head.. Lmao.. I remember exactly where I was at when it happen.. Lol
That's a hard question to answer bro... But when you do, YOU WILL KNOW
should i put a 5k or 8k on 2 of the massive hippo r?
Same build house as the soundqubed hdx4. but I’d prefer to stick to soundqubed just for there customer service.
Which their customer service is now garbage, since the company was sold.
No tge hippoXLR has a little bit bigger motor ive got one and aide by side with my buddys HDX4 and the HDX4 motor is smaller
And with higher ohms at box tunnig
american bass xfl will also do 143+ on a single 12 and its 1/3 rd the price
Do you think a JL audio amp rd 1500/1 will handle 2 8’ sub hippo ?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t
@@HifiVega will it resist ?
Try a ported tuned box next
This was ported, but need a lower tuning next time
Did it blow away kicker solo❓
No not really
why was there more box rise with the other amp?
Roughly the same
Get it done sir just go ahead and start filming the amp Dino!
I got the 10s and can barely hear them lol. I need a bigger amp I think.
Hippo xl122r 6000watts ❤❤❤❤
You guys are the best iwantfreestuff
I think williston tested at least one massive amp and IIRC it didn't make rated power, I'd be very interested to see how that one performs.
I can’t remember if he did or not, but it’s likely he did.
He did a 5K and it did rated power plus a bit but nowhere near the 5k max power listed. Kinda pricey at $969.
He has done a couple.
@@thecman26 Max rating lol... I hate it when Big D says "lets see if it can do that 5k" all the while knowing the amp is 2500rms and it exceeds it. I'm like DUDE! it can be confusing to viewers because he doesn't say it every time. Almost like he says it only for certain amps/brands. wink wink...
@@thecman26 I was thinking of the nano one he did because I had a nano at the time.
@@MurderousMindstatewhat videos are you watching because he's never done that. He clearly states what the rms is when he test amps that list a imaginary max rating
The stitching doesn’t go through the cone it’s just for looks.
Make another enclosure
Better then skar?
I don’t have any experience with the Skar subs that are in this price range or league, so I really couldn’t say. But that being said I’ve had decent experiences with Skar subs in my testing
Amazon sells American bass xmaxxxx rated for 8500 watts.
Ive got both and i say the xmaxxx is better
Play Jeezy hypnotized is the perfect song to break in new woofers
For a musical enclosure, for most 12-inch round subwoofers,(1.75 to 2.25cu. Ft. Net per12), tuned @ 30Hz to 34Hz, is good. But im sure that enclosure being that big= 3.25cu. Ft. Net per 12, tuned @ 44Hz, is Massive Audios SPL enclosure specs.? I have owned a Massive Audio amp before, wired @ 1/2 ohm, it would get hot, and start limiting power, after only 5 to 10 minutes, depending on how hot it was that day. If i wired the amp @ 1 ohm, it was fine, and didnt limit power, but it wasnt loud enough then, so i sold it.
What electrical? The fact it didn't give you same problems when at 1 ohm suggests the electrical wasn't strong enough to give you same results at .5
@@MurderousMindstateMy electrical was great. I had 2 alternators, putting out a total of 450 amps, @ 14.5 volts, 1-1100 Cca Deka battery up front, and 3 Group 31 Deka Agms in the back, right next to my amp. I had 4 runs of O.F.C, powers and grounds, ran all the way from the front to the back. The Massive Audio amp i had, was the D16,000.1= a.k.a.= "The Dragon", it did not have enough heatsink to keep it cool enough internally, while trying to make rated power= 8k r.m.s. @ 1/2 ohm. The best i clamped out of it was 6k, rising to 3/4 of an ohm, was the lowest imp. I could find. This Massive amp only had good enough cooling to support half of its power. It was the only quality amp i have used, that did this. My electrical was able to support 11k as clamped, on the term lab power probes, on different, more powerfull amplifiers, @ a later date.
Pretty loud for one 12!
What's the distortion value of these automotive woofers? .. It can't be good. .....
What do you mean by distortion value?
It's sparkly.
A lil bling!
**Queefs dominantly**
🤮
This drives fs is idea for me. I listen to a lot of electronic and techno music. This is the ideal woofer for my taste. My favorite drivers from the 90s were the Memphis m3s . These are the most similar to that sound, but on roids.
It sounds like you want more midbass drivers. Subwoofers are more for the lower range of frequencies.
I too like a lot of electronic and techno music. Yes, midbass is important for that kind of music, but there is also some really deep bass in there too. I had a Savard HiQ 12” in 2.5 cubic foot ported tuned to 27 hz and it went really good with my 10” midbass driver in a sealed enclosure.
How much was it
Damn Not too bad @654
Give us the dyno! Lol
Had a pair and they broke my trunk 😂 literally broke it
😲
DAYYYUUUUMMMMMM😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@dripcheghxulium4545 yeah it was all bad
Does anyone not going for spl scores really like tuning that high? For me and everyone I know, low 30's or even high 20's is the goal.
A box tuned lower with mo powah would be cool to see.
I agree
That subwoofer is not made for lows it's a spl subwoofer it's frequency is 42 hertz I have a pair and they sound OK at 32hertz but not like my sundown xv3 12s or my fi subwoofers this is why I buy different subwoofers to see which ones get the lowest and it only has a 22mm xmax
@@ceciljones1248 I've had "spl" subs that I tuned low that still did fairly well. The labels of "spl" or "sq" can be too generic or generalized. I'd personally try the low tuned box to hear what it'll do.
22xmax isn't bad in itself. What's the xmech? I'd model it first and go from there, but the real world testing is the best imo.
@piptyson5512 I use to tune my enclosures from 38 hertz to about 40 hertz for basically all kinds of music maybe a little hip hop but now I tune from 29 to 33 I don't like the mid sound of the subwoofer that's when a good sealed enclosure comes in affect now this is what I do to eliminate port noise I made a enclosure for my two fi hc 15s at 5.75 cubic feet I didn't have a choice? So what I did is put polyfill in the inside of the enclosure and it lowered the frequency and bye it being smaller I don't have a high impedance rise
Please, test it in a different enclosure
They have the new 5000 watt rms hcca subs on amazon so what u just said is far from correct with that 2000 watt sub
👍🏼
When I bought my Hippo the TS parameters said the fs was 32hz. Three years later, I was about to buy another and the fs changes to 40hz.
The spiders were a point of failure and would kill over at an fs of 32hz. Im sorry but that thing is terrible at 40hz. Loud? Yes. Low? NOTTA MANE. If I put it back in, 32hz all day.
Sooooooo, other than it being insanely peaky, trouble hitting lows and musically sounding like garbage, it's fine.......Got it 😂
It’s the recommended box imo. Stayed tuned for the next video with this sub because I hope to get better results with another enclosure
Jus changed my mind
Pit it in a lower tuned box. I be that thing will come alive. Massive doesn't do good on the box recommend
I love your videos man but the title of this video is a bit misleading 😆
It’s at least in the top 5 lol
@HifiVega
Ohh I'm sure for it's size, as far as the loudest avaliable on Amazon I think that title goes to the Orion HCCA SPLX 181 😂
👍👍👍...
i miss soundqubed
Id much rather have a wlldse hcy
That sub is on my list to try in the future
U know ur gonna do a amp dyno video no matter how many likes.
I know y’all are gonna get a thousand likes on the video! Is it the chicken or the egg?
6000 watt peak
Yeah you not going far off the mark at 1700 watts for a 3000 rms at that rise.
I got two hippo xl 124 wire to 1 ohm. On stock alt n battery. Hifonics brutus 2400 which is trash n trash ass q bomb vl box. Them mf slamming so when I get that gatley audio box n a down4sound anp n upgrade electrical mane o mane.

Thats the same shirt my dad wanted to get buried in when he died.... yrue story
Merica!
It's only got ONE voice coil....
Huh?
I have a pair of them i wouldn't build a enclosure no more than 2.75 maximum and tune it around 38 to 45 hertz it has a high frequency 42 hertz not good for super lows xmax 22mm its good for slamming to stop your box rise you have to make your enclosure right at the bare minimum or a tad bit smaller i know because I been building my own enclosures since 2006 smaller enclosure less box rise larger enclosure more box rise
They’re OK subs definitely not the loudest subwoofer you can buy on Amazon though that’s for damn sure
Their 15 inch looks nasty.
650 dollars !!!!!! The sensativity on that sub is terrible.
Correct. Most all spl subwoofers have horrible sensitivity... very inefficient. These are from the same build house as Toro, American Bass, Sound Qubed and so on. Everyone keeps saying to put it in a larger enclosure and tune low. Sure, if you want to unload the suspension and saturate the voice coil.
