The goal of Max% GT Code is to finish with the maximum item percentage shown on the credits screen. The rules are: GT Code is allowed, no out of bounds, no glitched beams. The maximum possible known percentage is 136%.
Max% GT Code does not require the player to manually collect all of the items in the game. During the early part of the run it is crucial that the player must not collect certain items. The player should perform the GT code while having the minimum number of e-tanks, reserve tanks, and ammo packs. This will leave the maximum number of these items to be collected after the GT code.
After GT Code, the player will have 53% items. Then go collect 45 missiles, 9 super missiles, 10 Power Bombs, 14 e-tanks, 4 reserves, and 1 screw attack. This adds up to 53+45+9+10+14+4+1 = 136%.
There are two important things to note:
1.) GT Code doesn't add 100/20/20 ammo capacity to your inventory - it replaces whatever you already had. If you have 5/5/5 ammo when you do the GT Code, then now you have 100/20/20. If you have 30/15/15 ammo when you do the GT Code, then you'll still wind up with 100/20/20. The same is also true for e-tanks and reserves (this is important). This means that to get the most out of GT Code, you want to enter it with 5/5 ammo and NO e-tanks/reserves. This leaves the maximum number of these items still remaining on Zebes for you to go pick up after GT Code.
2.) E-tanks, reserves, and ammo packs count the number that you have when item percentage is determined. On the other hand, major items like Gravity Suit and Plasma Beam are either yes or no; you either have it or you don't. Getting a major item like this before or after GT Code will have no effect on your final item percentage, because either way you will have exactly 1 of that item at the end of the game. This means you never need to pick up items that are out of the way like Spring Ball, X-ray, etc.

I love how as soon as Samus gets access to shine spark, abiding by the laws of physics simply become a suggestion
IKR
It's crazy how she abuses shine sparks to simply move faster when in real life it's only few times we actually get to utilize it.
Nobody showed up in time to suggest physicsing,..
Time Stamp?..😵💫
That ghost you saw as a kid alone in your bed at night was actually speed run samus phasing in and out of spacetime.
This went from “imagine Samus barreling down a hallway at you going top speed” to “imagine Samus straight up phasing through solid matter and quantum shifting behind you while you’re just minding your own business.” So fast.
And that's AFTER you watch her deliberately fling herself bodily into harm's way so that she can be struck flying into a particular direction.
28:55 The Speed Booster is a pathway to many abilities which some consider to be... unnatural.
Bruh wtf was that
Is it possible to learn this power?

@@munchymcmouthington298I am the danger.
I love how, for the first 16 minutes, this run looks relatively normal (aside from the avoidance of extra Missile and Super Missile Tanks, and all E Tanks), then you do a clip to get into Ridley's Lair, take a quick dip into the lava, do another clip, but then you suddenly have nearly everything when you enter the Golden Turizo room, and suddenly walls, ceilings and floors are mere suggestions.
Hahahaha xD
0:00 "Okay, this seems like a pretty normal TAS. Arm pumping, precice wall jumping, the works."
17:24 "Well that was certainly strange, but I guess TASes can pull of some pretty strange glitches."
18:28 All Hell breaks loose
That's exactly how this went and I loved every second of it
Can someone explain what the hell happened at 18:28
@@jigglynorris2559 it's called GT code; if you go backwards into Golden Torizo room holding a specific button combination, it gives you every upgrade (besides screw attack), and sets your ammo to 100/20/20, 7 e-tanks, and 3 r-tanks. It's used for the Max % runs, because after using GT code, you can then go back and collect all the e tanks, r tanks, missile packs, super packs, and super bomb packs to get more than 100% item collection rate. Normally, this is done with one pack each of missiles/supers/bombs to get through all the doors, and that gets you to 135%. This TAS is unique, in that the first power bomb is skipped (17:20), so after GT code, that pack is also collected, yielding 136%.
@@JarvisTastic Thank you. Dude when that happened I was here like what. The fuck.
I was SO confused why they fought Ridley with the VARIA SUIT until I remembered the GT code, and I was like "oh yeah".
So. In Terminals video.... Samus wasn't even using 5% of her power......
On a serious note, impressive. I have no idea how painstaking creating a TAS is.
Some TASes have 10s of _thousands_ of resets, just to get it all down pat.

This TAS has so much personality, I absolutely love it. I can just see Samus as this unstoppable force of chaotic power tearing through her old stomping grounds, and when one of the golden 4 show up in some dramatic entrance she's just goofing around because she's so utterly unimpressed.

It took me a while to realize what kind of run this is. First min% then max% is amazing.
I realized that something's about to happen in lower norfair when Samus was going right without power bombs, and I didn't get disappointed.
I'm not familiar with Super Metroid's glitches, but it was amazing seeing Samus just walk into another room and for seemingly no reason she just HAS the Gravity Suit on. I can't comprehend what the heck Samus did within a frame to manipulate space-time to give herself that and possibly more, but I am impressed nonetheless
holding abxy during golden torizo's door transition triggers the GT code which gives
7 Energy Tanks
3 Reserve Tanks
100 Missiles
20 Super Missiles
20 Power Bombs
Every item in the game, excluding Screw Attack (which can be immediately obtained after defeating Golden Torizo and/or leaving the room)
From there the maximum number of items is collected without space-time resetting zebes (which equates to 136%).
@@cakemaphoneige Is that even possible RTA?
This is an RTA TAS, is it not?
@@elio7610 RTA and TAS are two separate things entirely - RTA (real-time attack) is a non-tool-assisted speedrun. TAS is a tool-assisted speedrun.
@@DracXBelmont Nothing in the term "real time attack" specifies a human player or exclusion of tools. Usually "real time" refers to using actual real world time rather than game time and "time attack" is just another word for speedrun.
I like to imagine this is how Samus is on every mission of hers.
This might just be the most entertaining to watch tas I’ve ever seen on SM. Great stuff
Just another day in the life of Samus "I don't have time for this shlt" Aran.
Favorite TAS that i have ever watched of this game, pure talent bro love it amazing work buddy!!!
Bro, I’ve literally traveled the world and this is up there in memorable experiences. Great TAS.
Right after the premier I'm already watching it for the second time. This was full of surprises, humor, and ingenuity. The end screen with 136% was so beautiful it got me emotional. My favorite video of 2022 (and I say that as of April). Really appreciate all the hard work. Thank You Cake.
I did it all for the memes and moments like this. Thanks for the great comment, its my pleasure to make something that you and other people enjoy so much.
I remember when i did my first completion of the TAS and i seen the end screen with 136%, i said to myself "wow, its kinda crazy because theoretically i'm the first person to ever see this percent". Brings me a lot of emotion to see it too after all the hard work. Also, If you look at the thumbnail pic, the 136% on that is actually just a slightly modified version from the end game screen.
It was alright
“Slightly” lol
this tas run was literally my dream run when I was running 135% and saw that a TAS could bypass the LN pb door. This run has answered what I wanted. Glad someone took the effort to actually do it. Thank you
Thanks for the kind words dude i appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed it.
Hey, im assuming that was you who posted my TAS on Speedrun Reddit, if so thanks! Any extra views is always nice.

For any normal person, entering the backrooms is pretty much a death sentence...
For Samus is just another way to save a couple of frames
Normal humans are liable to die in the Backrooms. The Backrooms die when Samus enters them.
Was up till 3 in the morning working on a college research project and this run helped get me through. Thank you for your service
Glad it helped
That was impressive. Good job!
Holy crap, this is the first time I've seen the grappling hook sound glitch used in a TAS to phase through a wall and to break the game! I actually uploaded a video a LOOONG time ago about this, but never thought I'd see it be used practically!
I've missed the Shinespark / Super Missile flyover of the moat since most runners now use CWJ to clear it. This is the kind of stuff I enjoy. It seemed like most if not all rooms had some kind of wow factor to them.
Thank you for posting this.
Thank you
This is the most entertaining playthrough of Super Metroid I've ever seen. TAS as an artform at its finest.
This was absolutely gorgeous. Even when you weren't super jumping you were doing other strats I have never seen before. The way you handled attic had my jaw on the floor. I know how long these TASes can take to make and more people should see this. I don't know how youtube recommended this to me, but now that it has I am sharing it around. And I hope youtube recommends it to many more people.
Thanks, i appreciate the help in sharing it. It took me a year and a half to make ( with a couple month gaps in between time working on it).
I've been watching SM Speedruns since 2005 when I was 9 years old.
After watching the most famous TAS videos I (foolishly lol) thought the game could not be taken any further, and this is by far the most impressive one I've ever seen.
Masterpiece.
Can't believe I'm a year late to seeing this, but wow was it entertaining! It's amazingly fun to see how broken this game can actually become with all the amazing hidden tech and special abilities that aren't typically human viable.
Much appreciated
this and the mega man and bass tas run are probably my favorite tas’s of all time
This is probably the most entertaining SM TAS I've ever seen. As a casual runner, seeing some of these utterly insane frame perfect tricks is incredible. GT Max% is sort of an odd category too, so seeing it run so perfectly leaves much for human runners to live up to. If you further you TASing videos, I would love to see a RAMBO run!
Was a delight to watch, great TAS!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
"What is she doing?
"She is beginning to believe..."
Something I’d love to see would be a TAS blooper reel. Just a compilation of anything and everything that goes wrong during the production of a TAS. (Plus any necessary explanations)
I have actually thought about this lol - "When desyncs occur"
OMG! you pushed super-jump to max use in the run! incredible TAS 😮😮😮
Most impressive part, the pinpoint accurate precision of those A presses on the beginning dialogue.
I knew so crazy shit was going to happen with the speed booster, but that just is on another level of crazy
I love how during the Mother Brain fight, Mother Brain just sees Samus goofing around like and idiot, and the next thing she knows, she's dead!
(Also this TAS has made me learn that the speed booster makes abiding by the laws of space and time a mere concept to Samus)
For clearing the game in 30 minutes with 136% completion, Samus is wearing to much clothes at the end. 😅 This TAS was surely a hell of work. Respect. Very entertaining.👏
Watching this makes me feel like I'm watching a regular playthrough but I'm completely stoned.
This was great! So much new stuff compared to the super metroid TASes I used to follow on tasvideos. Is the movie file (input file) available? And if so, what emulator (and version) should it be played back on? I think this TAS would be even more enjoyable with item boxes and room transitions skipped.
I decided not to release the input file due to conflicts within the SM community. I use Lsnes emulator. Maybe one day i will stream the tas with lua script + ram watch.

Still the greatest game ever by FAR. I hope one day someone can get even a mile close to the perfection that was super metroid...
Samus looks like an elephant because the pumping is so fast
This is crazy! How do you use X-ray during a shinespark? And what does that do? Is there some write up that goes along with this explaining it (the whole TAS I mean)? Thanks!
There isn't a write up or explanation vid yet, i'm thinking about maybe doing something. What you are referring to is a Superjump, which is performed by activating x-ray on the final frame of enemy knockback frames, this enters into a state referred to as "X-mode" where you can then unleash a shinespark. During vertical or diagonal shinesparks samus moves at 14-15 pixels per frame using a separate vertical address to her normal address, while her normal vertical speed address increases by 7+ pixels per frame, but is unused. However if you exit x-mode with enough speed built up in the normal address, the shinespark will be canceled and this speed will now apply and it can be used and abused in various cool ways. Each normal block in the game is 16x16 pixels, so with a speed > 16 we can clip blocks vertically.
i like that while the person making the TAS is forced to wait they just have a funny dance
That Ceres escape time is crazy
this reminds me of the terminal montage video of super metroid, it has the same amount of chaos.

How long did it take to put all of this together? I feel like I'm watching something that was expertly crafted over the course of possibly hundreds of hours, but I don't know enough about TAS to know how long something like this actually takes. Do you literally edit every input frame when recording these?
Thousands of hours including visualizing strats. I would literally lul myself to sleep thinking of solutions

New to SM TAS, but familiar to how borked SNES games can be...
From that vantage, it appears there is a glitch related to taking damage while charging [possibly from a enemy being frozen] allowing a glitchy shine spark, is that related to the GT code, or just a frame/pixel perfect input only doable consistently [or at all] on TAS?
Glitches fascinate me.
(slightly altered explanation copy pasta) What you are referring to is a Superjump, which is performed by activating x-ray on the final frame of enemy knockback frames (sometimes done by getting damaged, freezing the enemy and landing on it), this enters into a state referred to as "X-mode" where you can then unleash a shinespark. During vertical or diagonal shinesparks samus moves at 14-15 pixels per frame using a separate vertical address to her normal address, while her normal vertical speed address increases by 7+ pixels per frame, but is unused. Just learned about the Golden Torizo code. I was wondering how you got the shine spark so soon
Thank you for not showing crocomire’s death on screen I would have cried irl
I’ve played the game many times. I’ve won the game many times. I have no clue what’s going on here 90% of the time. Fantastic job!
Really wonderful TAS :3
It was super fun to watch and I'm sure it took loads of planning and a ton of painstaking work!
I was wondering about the purpose of what was done at 42:23 was. I noticed you did a maneuver back in Norfair with those violas to gain entrance to a power bomb door. However, you did the same thing with an atomic and kihunter in the wrecked ship and you ended up hanging in air for a couple seconds and then you just killed them after they thawed. I'm certain there's a reason to this, I'm just wondering what it was.
I think he is building up vertical speed for the downward zip (and maybe the floor glitching after that?) after going through the next door.
Notice how Samus also gets stuck in the floor before entering the door. The same setup with a vertical zip also happens again at 45:10 so I think that's it.
@@derkevevin
O cool, TY.
Yes @derkevevin is right, the glitch is called icefall
How do you shinespark through walls and use the x-ray scope while you're speed boosting? Is there an article or something somewhere where someone explains this? I need to know every possible detail about this. 🤓

I was reading your comment, and the arm thing made me think about Goku when he first shows up on Namek and starts fighting the Ginyu force, and he’s moving so fast he looks completely still, and Gohan and Krillin freak out that he’s being hit by Berter and Jace until you see the footprints in the ground.
