Nice to see a voice actor who seems to really enjoy a particular franchise that he's an iconic part of. Duncan Fisher is a great part of Battletech.
When I first saw this I thought it was an official into to that HBS Battletech game. Perfect quality all around!

For those who don't know, sarna.net is the BattleTech wiki. This franchise is a space opera set in a semi-dystopian 31st century, where the interstellar governments have reverted back to feudalism and hereditary nobility. There are no sentient aliens, because the theme is that mankind is its own worst enemy. "Machines have evolved. Man hasn't."
There are over a hundred BattleTech novels. There are tabletop board games. And there are a bunch of PC games--MechWarrior and Mechcommander. The Xbox has Mechassault.

Why wasnt this the intro to MW5 (minus the clan stuff) instead of that short clip they show when you start. It tell you so much more about this universe than that did.
because this is giving a primer on the universe as a whole, and the mw5 intro was setting up to what your place in the world is; that being a mercenary.

Shouldn't the date be 3049, though? By 3051 the Clans were already making massive headway into the Inner Sphere.

I'm talking about point 3:00, where it says "the year is 3051 AD" and then talks about the Clans invading. The Clans started the invasion in 3049 though, because by 3051 the second wave was starting and the four Crusader clans had already made massive gains in Inner Sphere space and wouldn't be stopped until 3052.
Actually the clans didn't officially invade until 3050 according to Sarna. though you are right that it lasted until 3052 and its possible the invasion actually started in december of 3049. hense why its referred to 3050

Well, 3051 was when Operation Revival started up again with the second wave of hte Clan invasion. Clans Diamond Shark, Nova Cat, and Steel Viper were added as auxiliary backups for the primary invading clans.

So, it's like the little cousin of W40K? Cool!
Be careful how you phrase that, good sir. Battletech may not be as broad or grimdark as Warhammer 40K, but the sheer depth of its world, characters, and inner-workings makes makes "Game of Thrones" look small in comparison.
It also helps that its owners aren't actively trying to kill off the fan community that has supported it through the decades. The Great Exodus of W40K players to Battletech has been a fascinating development to watch and a boon for this franchise's recent revival.
Warning noted. My intention was not to minimize the depth of the universe.
I am not yet very far into the lore, but for now, it is definitely looking like the less-grimdark cousin of 40k.
Definitely worth looking further into.
