I get the impression that many people are becoming more and more absorbed and shaped by what they hear and read in the media. People eventually forget to use their own heads and think for themselves.

      The term "mother" traditionally refers to a female parent, but in today's world, families come in all shapes and forms. Some transgender men who have given birth might identify as mothers. It ultimately depends on how individuals define their roles within their families.

    My mother raised me and my brother on her own, we are now almost forty, married, and have children of our own. All respect and gratitude goes to my mother for all the things she taught us. She worked two jobs, as a father and as a mother. but she's still my mother, that's what me and my brother calls her, our children call her grandma, and our wives call her mother-in-law.
    Is this so hard to understand?

    My mother died when I was two years old. My gran and aunt looked after me, because my father knew he could not be my mother. He was a wonderful father.

    As a father who's kids' mother has seen the bottom of a bourbon glass more than she has seen her kids, I can tell you that fathers can be kind, caring, nuturing and everthing else a loving mother should be, but I'm very proud to be called Dad and even prouder to be my kids' Father.

    In a nutshell, a mother and a father can both nurture a child and that is called parenting but the mother is always a biological female who can give birth and breastfeed a child, something that a father, a biological male, can never do.

    I was raised by a single mother, she did her best to play both roles and I love her for it. But let me say, I was way behind the curve when it came to being a man. I know for a fact that if I had had a father figure in my life, I would have learned those things at a much earlier age.

    Was a single father for years and while my child was under my care, I tried to be a mother figure as well. Failed miserably!!! I think it really takes a female to truely understand mother hood. Yes I could assume what my daughter was going through during puberty. Could go buy tampons etc,etc but I never knew what was going on inside her. Hormones and chemical imbalances etc. Only her mother knew.

      I became a single Mom when my kids were 12 and 14. Their Dad wasn't around much by his own choice. I have 1 of each. One time my son was upset about something and I was trying to understand him. I finally said to him "I was never a teenage boy so I don't know what it feels like to be a teenage boy". For some reason it seemed to work.

      My friend you almost made me cry I just want to say you done your best. You can definitely do a mothers role and your doing it already. Nurturing and protecting her aswell as taking care of her. You only need to know as much mother qualities you can. Hopefully your daughters grandmother or aunties, cousins are around because they will support her in understanding some of those female morals and mother instinct/experiences etc. They will pass on.     I did lose my wife and raised twins on my own. Despite my best efforts I couldn’t do everything their mother could have done as well as she could have done. Conversely, single mothers I know can’t do everything a father can do.

      On a primal level, nurturing goes deeper for mothers with their young; it's a part of her biological wiring. This is the case in almost every species of female in every part of nature. It doesn't mean fathers can't nurture too, but they will never be mothers just like mothers will never be fathers. You don't need any certificate, degree, or class in formal education to understand this; just look around you and it's blatantly factual.

    This kills me inside my brain. I’ve raised my children speaking of my now 14 year old daughter. I can not teach my daughter in anyway how to be a lady or mother. However, I have taught her to be respectful of herself first and to build from the foundation I’ve induced into her ability to succeed. But I’m no mother.

    My Mum died when I was 5-years-old. I was raised by father (as were my siblings then 3-, 4-, and 8-years-old). He was a good father and our only parental influence. He would never have consider himself a 'mother' - or capable of replacing our mother's presence - and we never considered him as such. Mothering wasn't in his arsenal. He was a pragmatic, hardworking man - a provider who showed affection in the muted masculine ways most men do.

    If you are a man and you have a kid, you are the father if you don’t have a wife or a baby mama or whatever and you do the female stuff it doesn’t make you the mother it means you played the mother role, but you are still the father

    My father had to be my mother as well since she suffered from an autoimmune disease. Sometimes you don't have a choice. But no one talks about cases like that.

    I was a single parent and raised my son from 7yrs old on alone. I was his mom and his dad.
    I held him when he hurt, corrected him when he did wrong, and loved him always.
    Men can mother children.
    Just because I didnt bear him does not mean I cant give him that advice or support a women can. Or cant be firm as a Dad when needed.
    We are and always will be close no matter what happens because I have done that with him.
