- 6 X 12 Cargo Trailer Camper Conversion Part 32 Dexter Trailer Lift gb adventures. We use the Dexter K7138400 kit to raise the cargo trailer camper conversion. This increases ground clearance but also increases wind resistance for the part above the towing truck. We needed the increased ground clearance for some camp sites that we haul into. #trailerlift #dextertrailerlift #traveltrailerlift

_That was the first thing I did on my cargo trailer, it help with being level with my truck. Nice job!_
Thanks. Yep, it levels it out quite nice. Thanks for watching.
i installed this kit on my camper ( 3-11-2023 ) the kit is great, but the one thing the instructions does not mention ?, is the long adjusting bolts being welded ?, what is going to keep them from backing off the seats ?..nothing !!!..lol. they can loosen up over time. sooo..to solve this, i also tack welded these long nuts to the seats to keep them from backing off over time.
It's not going to hurt anything to tack the bolts and yes they could back off over time. factory spring saddles are welded and do not have bolts I would hope the new saddles would be welded well enough that the bolts would not matter in the long run. The bolts allow the installer to place the new saddles parallel to the factory's. Good luck.
This is what I need to do next to my 6x12. I have already done some inside work, put a little insulation & installed 2 windows. This video is extremely helpful.
Sounds like you have a good start. Thanks for watching. Good luck on your project.
Thanks for posting this, I need to get this done.
Thank you for taking the time to do this great video💯💯💯💪💪
Thanks for the video. Have my Dexter kit ordered.
Thanks for watching
Nice Job Greg!! Great Video...
Thanks for watching Vince.
Did it to my pop up trailer this past weekend with the dexter axle and now I got great clearance
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Man, that was extremely helpful!! Trynna turn my 6x12 into a kinda overland trailer. I have some work to do!! But thanks for step one in my trailer build!!
Glad it helped. We haul ours on some trails too. The height has helped a lot. Good luck on your build.
take some pictures!!
Excellent video. Looks relatively easy and inexpensive to do, too. I recently replaced my trailer's wheel bearings out of an abundance of caution ($25/axle). In doing so, I noticed the hubs were also made by Dexter, same as the lift kit. It looks like I could have almost as easily installed a Dexter lift kit while replacing the bearings. With the hubs already removed, it would have been easy to pull the axle out without needing to remove one of the leaf spring bolts. Thanks again for another great video!
Yep, it's a fairly simple installation. I try to get all that axle stuff done at one time, but don't always succeed. It's a dirty area to have to work for sure. Good luck with your project.
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching
Thank you sir . This was very helpful
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Good Job ! Very informative ..
Thanks for watching.
This was very very helpful. I took the axle off today. Unfortunately I have to take it somewhere to get it the seats welded. I guess I will reinstall it next weekend. Actually it was a piece of cake to get off. I had to cut the brake wire but I needed to do that anyway as I have to reroute the wire around a hot water exhaust pipe. Thanks for the video.
Glad it helped
great info, after installing the kit, how much did it raise your hitch height? thanks
Thank you for the video sir. Can you tell us what welding process you used and amperage. I need to do this on my trailer also. it looks like the brackets are 1/8 inch and possibly the axle is 1/8. thank you
I used an AC stick welder. 3/32 6013 rods. round 90 amps. Good luck
@@FakeLegGreg thank you sir i appreciate your response
I assume you are going to put truck/car tires on the trailer. What kind of adapter did you use for the lug nuts and where did you get it? Cheers
The lift was to clear the holding tank under the trailer. I still have trailer tires on it. No need for adapter. Thanks for watching.
I wonder if this would work for my boat trailer.
If your trailer has leaf springs it should work. Good luck on your project.
I just bought a boat and the trailer bottoms out going up my driveway. Would this lift kit work on a boat trailer? Thanks
The lift would work for any trailer that I know of. A lift with torsion springs is probably different. You also need to know the diameter of the tubing you axle has. E Trailer sells the correct spring perches for your axle. Good luck.
Is it possible to put on a new axle on trailer that has had original hardware removed?
yes, it is possible with a welder.
@@FakeLegGreg I found someone. Raybuck welding in Dubois PA but he’s going to find some iron he’s got laying around to brace the trailer and make the axle more sturdy. I like the idea of new axle but I feel lucky to have this either on. Most body shops went with in it because it has been modified
Darn typos: most shops won’t work on this due to the jimmy rigging it’s had
@@lsherry2429 Glad you found a welder to work on it. I hope he gets it all fixed for you.
The I have to welt The Shockoe to the axle ?
My trailer doesnt have shocks but if yours does. yes you will have to get them mounted.
Wow. Just what i was looking for. Quick question for you. Did it change the ride of the trailer at all i.e. Is it more bouncy it significantly shaky.
Not any more bouncy or shaky. It will catch more wind on a cross wind though.
Why not extend the 4 spring brackets, instead??? ( I just dont know)
You can do it that way. Most people do not have the materials and equipment to do that. I actually have flipped and moved the spring mounts on a pop up trailer I am rebuilding at this time. Good luck on your project.

I watched how you did it and I got excited because I want to do the same thing. However when I checked my axle it is a dexter axle with a 4 in drop. How would I lift that? Is it still possible?
I do believe that you can still put a lift kit on a drop axle. It depends on the diameter of the tubing of the axle.
GB Conversions & Adventures ok thankyou.....how do I find out the diameter and the kit you used is good for what diameter.? I appreciate your help.
@@jimdes1792 You are going to have to crawl under the trailer with a tape measure and measure across the axle. Also, does your trailer have leaf springs?
GB Conversions & Adventures Yes I have leaf springs and the diameter I just checked with a calliper and it says it’s 2.36 in 60mm
@@jimdes1792 Cool. It's a 2 3/8 inch axle. If both ends of your leaf springs have spring eyes and not sliders then you probably need this kit from E Trailer. www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Dexter-Axle/K71-384-00.html
I really need help, I’m stuck about 2000 miles from home and my tires are pointing towards each other. I was told by ac trailer repair shop, nothing to worry about and it is not the weight but it’s getting worse. Help 😢
I don't know where you are. I would join a local RV facebook group and ask for local shops that could repair your trailer. It sounds like you have a bent axle.
This is my home and idk what to do
Why not not just flip the Axle?
Are you retarded ? Or did you not watch the video? He explained why u can't just flip the axle.
