    Excellent performance. From experience I know how tricky this movement of Hoedown is, the notes being tricky to get under the fingers but this ensemble make it look simple.

    In my opinion this performance, as well done as it is, still makes me yearn for the complete orchestra. The brass in particular is just not replaced by strings.

    Gosh I played this song my junior year of highschool and I learned it as a second violin. I was so proud and then felt so defeated when I got bumped up to first violin my second year and had to learn it all over again;; and it was even harder to play that time :'D

      @Tiny Hawk64 oh man, you'll get it for sure. If not in your junior year, definitely senior. That's how I got it. All the seniors graduated and my teacher just moved me up to first violin.
      I think your teacher will see that you really put in the effort so I have no doubt you'll be first pick to be moved up. I'm rooting for you!

      @@oliviaudon7821 Interesting. At my school 1st and 2nd violin groups switch each quarter, but the principals/concertmasters stay the same.

      @Random One for Stuff for context, I went to a performing arts school specifically for orchestra. Despite that it was still a pretty small orchestra?? Idk if that has any effect on the decision for positions.

      @@oliviaudon7821 Wow, I didn't know such a school existed. Anyhow, my school's orchestra is very low-key (there aren't even chair auditions). I don't know what you consider small, but we have about 10 violins in total, 3 violas, and 5 cellos.

    I remember playing this in middle school in our top orchestra. Difficult to learn but so much fun once we nailed it for our festival

    Wow this is beautiful, the first time i every heard this was watching a logging video from the early ‘80s, at end of the video the participants cut down the “spar poles” that were 110’ tall, with only an axe, 2 man crosscut saw, and wedges as this piece was played in the background, both spar poles, were just long logs. The sawyers fell the logs right on the little flags - right where they were aiming.

    What is a bit interesting, in my junior year before covid hit I actually played this piece I think it took us like probably a maximum of a week or so to practice this piece and then put it in a concert, it's so crazy!!!!

      @@leogavinho4579 yes! I was at a concert called "Fiddler's Feast" featuring a sampling of Appalachian, Scottish, and Catskill fiddle music. They played the specific tune that inspired this. I cannot for the life of me recall the name, though I have played it in my little Celtic band often.
