  • Express LRS 3.0-RC2 provides up to 16 fully proportional channels. When paired with a Crossfire to PWM Converter, Express LRS can now be used for fixed wing configurations requiring more than four proportional channels.
    In this video, I have an Express LRS Receiver installed in my Precision Aerobatics XR-61 for a test flight.

    John, you are doing us a great service with your coverage of ELRS 3.0! Because of your recent videos, I purchased the Happymodel ExpressLRS 2.4GHz ES24TX Pro Micro TX from Defiance RC, along with 2 receivers and 2 Matek PWM boards. I already have a HobbyEagle A3 Super 4 kit with the programming card so I should be ready for SBUS when the Ch 3 thing is resolved in the final version of ELRS 3.0.

      @@RCVideoReviews Just found out I have the A3S3, not the A3S4. I don't know if it will let me reassign channels like I could with the A3S4. I emailed HobbyEagle to ask the differences between the two.

      Super3 doesn't support Ch3 (throttle) out. It requires a signal pin from your sbus rx direct to your ESC so your Rx is the only device managing throttle. This requires your sbus rx to have pwm pins. That's why the the super4 is required. The super3 and most others allow ch5 remapping.

    Seems like EVERY time I forget to do a control check (which isn't often) I get bit by some sort of control reversal or other similar issue.🤣🤣 Really drives home the importance of doing a COMPLETE control and C.G. check every flight!

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  Před rokem

      Yes...and I call out my expectations ahead of time too because I've seen guys out there just move all controls up down side to side repeatedly and quickly while saying "yep, looks good" only to take off with reversed ailerons.
      In full size aircraft during control systems checks we do whatever we can to visualize the control during movement. Maybe different in big jets, but in smaller planes, that was 100% how I was taught.

    ELRS really is the future. 3.0 is great, but whoooboy, can it be difficult to get working. Worth it, for sure, but it could be a deal breaker for those used to simple bind plug pwm RXs...

    I have the radio call out my ELRS power levels when they change. That's how I monitor my link status but letting Elrs monitor the link stats and if it is deciding to bump up the power levels quickly, then I worry. Also by hearing it call out the power levels, I can tell where the bad reception areas are. I have this one set of power lines that for some reason was messing with my link. Other power lines were not having any effect. But anyways, that's my set up.

    • @aamirsheikh2802
      @aamirsheikh2802 Před rokem

      Can you please suggest any links as to how you setup your radio to call out the power levels. Is it just a simple setting or do i have to download something for it?

  • @rcvg69420
    @rcvg69420 Před rokem

    Nice! Did you get your failsafe configured in the PWM converter board? I found this process to be pretty tricky but definitely necessary. Also if you don't adjust this but are using anything but channel 3 for your throttle the default is 1500, 988 for channel 3. so basically if you don't set the failsafe in the CLI, which is a pain, then hook your throttle up to say channel 1 and turn your radio off it will perform half throttle uncommanded on you which is no bueno...
    So this is something you need to be very mindful of with ELRS and PWM at the moment. Whether you are using a converter board or using one of the Matek ELRS-PWM receivers. Which is what I recommend using because at least you can adjust the PWM settings in the wifi mode of the receiver.
    Just a PSA for anybody considering ELRS for normal planes. I do think Matek will eventually make their converters a little more convenient and I also think ELRS will eventually set things up so you can change the failsafe and PWM settings via LUA script or something which will be easier. It would be good if both had an option for failsafe of "no pulses" which I think is the safest default output.
    It's very cool that plane guys suddenly can have sub 5ms latency and 333hz output to the servos! Not that anybody could tell... But it is nice to know that when you are on ELRS you are on the cutting edge of performance with the very best latency possible. Then you also somehow get limitless range and telemetry on top of this. THEN you factor in the 15 dollar 6 channel PWM receivers and 12 dollar serial out receivers and it seems like just a matter of time before ELRS is the normal. The only issue at the moment is the firmwares and flashing is complicated but I think they might get that figured out, time will tell.
    Also wanted to add I have maybe 2 hours of air-time on ELRS 3.0.0-RC1 with no glitches so I think I might be in the clear for weird glitching issues, link seems solid. ACCST would do weird glitching for me, at least on 1.x firmware, maybe 2-3 times per hour in the air it would disconnect for 1-3 seconds then reconnect. Spektrum was better about this but would occasionally just failsafe within line of sight then lawndart into the ground. Futaba FASST has never done a weird glitch for me and I probably have 200+ hours of air time with it.

      RX's are half the price. TX's are half the price. The binding phrase is priceless. It supports bluetooth joystick. Supports loan model feature. Opensource = relatively rapid development cycle. Internal ELRS showing up from multiple manufacturers. Configurable packet rate (Crossfire has 50/100/150 auto selected, ELRS goes up to 500 with a new low latency mode and a new diversity mode. Might be a stupid question, but I’m just learning about elrs, and considering it for my airplanes. I’m curious to know if your radio is a 4 in 1 with a elrs module, or does it have elrs built in? I see two antennas on your transmitter, but not sure if that means anything. I’ve been considering getting a radiomaster tx16s. The more I read about them, the more I’m starting to like them.

      "ELRS is still rather crude in comparison but it's getting better...🤔😏🇬🇧"
      I have to disagree. I think ELRS is actually better than Crossfire in comparison:
      MUCH higher packet rates
      MUCH better software - TBS AgentX and AgentM both are buggy as $^#! - Way over complicated and unreliable where ELRS Configurator is simple, elegant, and quick. When the hardware is configured properly it works well.
      TBS Agent Lite LUA - Exceptional, but I know the guy who wrote it, so I'm not surprised.
      ELRS LUA - WIP but fully functional, fully usable and improving daily. PS TBS Agent Lite can be used to configure ELRS.
      LORA - Superior for range.
      ELRS - Selectable packet rates, selectable telemetry ratios, selectable PWM output options (8/12/16) to preserve bandwidth and increase range.
      ELRS - Selectable switch modes to preserve bandwidth and increase range.
      ELRS - Selectable power levels and switch assignable.
      ELRS - Binding phase is superb
      ELRS - Bluetooth joystick
      ELRS - Model loan feature
      ELRS - Model ID can be used for templates/profiles
      ELRS - WiFi addressable RX and TX
      ELRS has a literal army of developers and I believe they've surpassed Crossfire in most meaningful ways at this point with the solitary exception of no native sbus. IMHO Crossfire is the one which is rather crude by comparison at this point.

      It doesn't matter with a single antenna. What matters is the air antenna and ground antenna predominantly share the same orientation. In this case I had the air antenna aligned vertically and the ground antenna aligned horizontally which was a mistake. The following week on another plane, I had them both aligned the same direction and the results were better.
