    Name's origins
There are several hypotheses relating to the origin of the name. The most accredited one derives the toponym from two Latin terms Talus and *Cotium*, or "cut in the rock". The village, in fact, developed on the slopes of Mount Civita, the top separated by a cleft from Mount La Difesa

The territory was inhabited in ancient times by the Equi, placed on the northern border of the Marsi. There are certain historical hints of an inhabited area whose origins date back to the 11th century.
Before then, in some Carolingian imperial texts of 964 and 998, references to the monastery of San Cosma were found, with the note "in Heloritu" (ie located in a laurel wood). Even before that, there are traces of cave settlements, some dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Age.

During the 11th century the territory was incorporated into the county of the Marsi, enucleated by the Lombard duchy of Spoleto and attributed, in 926...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

I just love the changing elevations as the pathways rise and fall, bend and twist left or right. Is there any part of Italy that isn't a picture postcard? You've really shown the world that Italy is so much more than Venice, Rome, Naples, Florence, etc. There is great beauty there of course, but only in towns like this can we be so transported back in time.

The video here is excellent but the town's character is so much more than is seen here. Young people, children, elderly, and everyone in between, all congregating in the evening is an example of the sense of community. And mornings are no different. Bought an apartment in Tagliacozzo 8 months ago. We were fortunate enough to find such a vibrant beautiful town so close to Rome and in the Apennines mountains. Everyone has flowers around their apartments and take care of their places. Yes, Romans do come in summer to flee the heat. Personally, I like to ski and there are some excellent areas about an hour away. There is also a train station in town that permits good access around Italy. It only takes about 1 1/2 hours from Termini in Rome to Tagliacozzo by train. I walk from the station to the apartment, about 10 minutes. If you need to buy bread or groceries get it done before 11:00 since most places shutdown until about 4 pm, but you will still find some bars, pasticceria and pizza shops open. My Italian is zilch but everyone wants to help and usually speak sufficient English to understand. Plenty of restaurants, bars, hidden nooks and fresh vegetable markets. Every Thursday several streets in town are pedestrian only with an open market for everything from seafood, local veggies, fruit, cheese, etc. to tools, furniture, and everything in between. I'm from the States and prices for everything are surprisingly inexpensive, including properties. What a gem of of town.

So much to see..so much to discover...Gems everywhere there. Stunning region, great people as well. Great idea buying a property there too I must say. I was there for the first time when I was a small child with my parents, many years ago (we're from near Rome) and always wanted to come back

Que hermosos pueblos, hay clínica y hospitales 🏥 allí? Escuelas, abastos, supermercados, farmacias? Se ven tan solitarios, y a la vez una paz que no tiene precio! Saludos, me encanta tu contenido. ❤️

Gracias Keyla.

I knew Hugo would come here and point at the Pandas. It's Abruzzo... The "Land of Plenty" (of Pandas) 😊

@@StillWanderer Hell yeah! Now, my Panda fetish (God that sounded naughty) doesn't diminish my appreciation for the rest of your work of course, which is much appreciated. Whenever you upload, I try to take a quick peek, scan for Pandas, post something semi-funny, and then the notifications of your replies serve as a reminder for me to watch the rest of the vid, which I generally do in 2-3 sittings or something. Win-win!

Thank you Dear Hugo. We've been knowing each other for so long now that we understand each other immediately and joke about our Panda thing) beautiful town it is. Weird weather... absolutely hot but sun didn't shine. Deserted at first and crowded in the end. A peculiar walk this time . Wish you a nice weekend my dear Hugo!
