  • When La Cenerentola was written, Rossini was just 25 years old, but already incredibly popular in Italy and throughout Europe. The story was drawn from the Tales of Mother Goose by Charles Perrault, and the libretto was hatched in just 22 days. Rossini composed the music with his customary speed, in only 24 days as a showpiece for bel canto singing. It's an acrobatic vocal score, full of florid, highly ornamented vocal lines and some amazing ensemble numbers.
