Norfolk Southern's Office Car Special - K&O District

- At the beginning of my fall break from UT, I decide to kick it off by chasing the OCS up the K&O District to Knoxville. I have never seen it on this line and some of the photos that other photographers have got were spectacular.
I had originally set up just south of Blair, Tennessee on the edge of a field. The elevated curve was a great angle, but the light was bad. Moving around the curve a little ways proved more light, but the farmer who owned the field bluntly told me to move my camera elsewhere.
On top of that, a fellow photographer had informed me that a car wreck up the road had traffic backing up, so the decision was made to move ahead of the wreck in order to keep up a good chase.
The next location was a bust as well as a nearby property owner bluntly told us move elsewhere again. Turns out there isn't really a lot of room in some places to pull off to take a photo on this line without being too close or on someone's property.
Finally! I arrive at my first video location, which is nearly halfway to Knoxville at this point, at Marlow, Tennessee. NS 4271 sports a rather quiet K-5LA with a dead 4A bell. The other F-9A unit has the better horn, but also has the better HEP so it remains close to the coaches in the consist.
Moving on down the line to just north of Clinton, Tennessee at East Siding. Better light is achieved here.
Finally, we find the train climbing Copper Ridge giving the motive power in the consist a good workout.
This probably was one of the more stressful chases for the blunt property owners and migraine headache I wound up getting after the chase was over. The train itself is hard to get ahead as they make some pace. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Fricken awesome!!!
Sweet catch of the NS OCS. Lovely F9 locos.
Going through the "S" at 2mins = awesome!
Love it!!!!
Awesome shots man!
I wonder if the kids in the school bus know how lucky they were to see this go by? If I was the driver I'd certainly point it out to them.
i got out of school early because my mom was nice since there was a asembly that ended early she checked me out. we were in clinton and saw a green and told my mom to wait to see and she didnt. mad!
Love the intro, sounds familiar lol
I think you will find a great number of familiar sounds on here :)
That's my dang bus!
my'ne too
they need to fix that K5
I begin to wonder if that whole FRA Horn Test has something to do with that...
I think 4271 has always sounded like that. 4270 has the good sounding K5.
I was told 4270 hardly leads because it has the better HEP unit in it so it stays close to the coaches. 4271 has always sounded like that. Probably need a new diaphragm in the 4A bell and it would be fine. If I could have it my way, it would have a nice M-5 horn on it. :)
