There can be no greater inspiration for going out in crap weather than amazing photos born from horrendous conditions. Those are some fantastic photos - thanks for the inspiration!
Nice to know you can just stay in the UK for the most amazing place to photograph 😁👍
Yep - UK is the best!
I did the West Highland Way in 2003 with my Dad. You've brought back some happy memories of walking through Rannoch Moor finishing off that day with the magnificence of Buachaille Etive Mor.
Been watching your videos for quite awhile and this was one of, if not the, best. The images were outstanding.
Love your photos! They are amazing!!!!
Shower caps!! 🤣What a great hack / idea. And another excellent video with gorgeous shots. This was a good wake-up call for me too...I think I've been so focused on nice weather outings (getting great sunrise / sunset light in the sky, etc.) that I didn't stop to think about the drama in bad weather. As a skier I can relate to it immediately too -- I've always loved snowy days on the hill because I know so many people won't brave the weather, so I can ski fresh snow with almost no crowds. Not sure why I never connected that to fantastic landscape images before!
Fabulous video Nigel, stunningly beautiful images and great tips 👍
Good reminder to get out in all conditions, the Harris beach shot was simply stunning!
Thank you for sharing your experience and advice - you and Mads Peter are a real crowd pleaser!
Good job Nigel.
A labor of love is so appropriate for this video Nigel for your efforts in harsh conditions for your fan base! Really spectacular footage and images! Wonderful work! Thank you as it was highly entertaining and informative as well! ❤️🙏🙏
Cheers, really enjoyable video. Lovely photos and looking forward to the Harris and Lewis one a lot
A cracking opening sequence to the video Nigel and what a fine collection of images as well
Fantastic shots and great storytelling. Thanks for this video.
Simply fascinating to listen to you and see how important it is to get out of our comfort zone and dare to experiment ... Your wisdom and great tips are always useful. Thank you Nigel, love your captivating videos. Cheers!
I love all of your landscapes! Incredibly inspiring
Another great vid Nigel. Beautiful shots which truly reflect the amazing nature of these islands. I can't wait to get back up there - probably next year now. PS I saw your short video at Sligachan old bridge on the BBC - nice one.
Excellent video this week Nigel, inspiring work.
I just heard "Make sure you have some alcohol..." and expected him to pull out a hip flask, rather than wipes!
Nice video and with the cooler and colder weather coming, it's a good reminder to get out somewhere. I need to find that somewhere.
Always a good good moment on my sunday 👌👍🏼👌
That first image is so print worthy! Absolutely incredible.
Great video as always Nigel.
Another great visit from you this Sunday morning. I can still remember those days of incredible excitement of being at the right moment and getting those "once" shots. So fun hearing the excitement you share with us all about it. I did not realize your camera was so weather proof. Have a great week and stay safe and healthy. Cheers from Florida.
Stunning shots!
Good work and amazing images. My home country never fails to impress
Awesome experience mate. Epic shots!
Such a great reminder Nigel! A few years ago i was in Iceland and it rained 15 out of 17 days, and those were the best photos! Great tips for photographing in the rain as well. Thanks for another great video!
I am a beginner with landscape photography. I have been learning so much from your videos. Thank you for teaching and sharing!
Thank you Nigel for sharing, I find your channel really helpful and inspiring. Your imagery is simply stunning, I’m driving through Glen Coe tomorrow off to Fort William and will certainly reference your shots when i stop, many times I’m sure. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and your images. Andy
Thank you Nigel you’ve made me transition from wildlife to landscape, couldn’t ask for a better mentor
Great shots and great advice... many thanks.
Thanks for great tips. Beautiful photos 😊 Pebbles is so cute 🥰
I thought I had all the kit, certainly various rain covers, but have never thought of shower caps - really good idea.
You captured an amazing collection of very unique images, nice work!
Can’t miss Sunday morning, ND, especially Scotland. Aptly timed video as autumn approaches. Thank you.
Harris is my favourite place in the word. I’ve spent a lot of time there as a kid. It’s truly magical. I miss it up there
The Harris shot is amazing!
Wonderful beach shots. Not a lot of bad weather here or fog for that matter. However there are some amazing beaches. Looking forward to seeing more inspiring images.
I absolutely love Glencoe, probably one of the most serene yet intimidating places i have ever been to. The mountain you were talking about is the Buachille Etive Mor, it stands like a massive guardian to the rest of Glencoe.
Your images under such trying conditions are amazing and enthusiastically presented. You are such an easy and gentle instructor. Oh, and I love the double face on the cow at the end.
You convinced me that this is the right way approaching photography, esspecially for me, mum of 2 small kids, 9-5 job and house. Whatever time I have for photos, I cant be picky. In fact, my best photo I took was during rain, cycling at 5 am up the big hill while camping with kids didnt sound like a good idea, but im very pleased I did. Thank you Nigel and your photos from Skye are amazing!!!
Thanks and good on you for getting out!
Great timing from my point of view. On Thursday evening I fought my way through a squall to get to the headland overlooking Godrevy and after finally getting the camera out of the bag I got one of my favourite shots of the whole year. The light over St Ives beneath ominous black clouds was totally epic. Getting out there and embracing those hellish conditions definitely brings the most dramatic images 😁
I LOVE the images from the beach, amazing colors, no filters needed. Hopefully soon I can get a camera that I can use in those conditions, if I use mine right now I will get unique images because it will be the first and last time I use it 😁 great as always Nigel.
Was in Harris and Lewis in March and it's just an amazing beautiful and photogenic place, world class in fact, I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures Nigel
Brilliant lots of good tips and some brilliant shots - that Harris Beach is like a painting
Glad you enjoyed it
Really enjoyed this vid Nigel. So inspirational. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks, Nigel. Yet another awesome video filled with inspiration and knowledge. Well time to check out your blog now, what else would you do at 12:30am. Dam, going to be tired at work tomorrow, again. 😴
Great video as always Nigel. Some of my favourite shots from the Great Ocean Road have been taken during some atrocious conditions. It's alway good fun to be out with the camera braving the elements.
One thing I keep meaning to comment on is how you talk about Squarespace (with passion) AND actually use them for your site. I've been using Squarespace for 4 years now and love the power and flexibility their templates offer - it's so refreshing to see photographers with Squarespace sponsorship actually use them !
I think we are all guilty of looking out of the window and convincing ourselves to stay in. Great film, thanks Nigel.
We’re off to Skye next week so this video is just perfect timing.Thank you.
I love seeing Pebbles!
Brilliant mate..
Sigma 24-70... just watched a Christopher Frost review on that! Great video, your enthusiasm is so infectious.
I am nervous about going out in the rain with my equipment, but I will give a try. Great suggestions for keeping my equipment dry.
Nigel you are the only landscape photographer on CZcams I follow that consistently produces incredible images. Lots of CZcamsrs are just relying on gear videos or great video production of amazing locations only to come home with average images. I still enjoy their videos of course but as I love photography and don’t video/CZcams I always feel whilst those videos are fun they aren’t that inspiring to me. Your work has always been an inspiration so thanks so much for the great content - your video work is epic as well by the way but I respect you even more for not sacrificing your photography! I wish you focused more on you and your journey rather then the “10tips to improve XYZ approach” but that’s just me :) Keep up the amazing work and thanks again!
Thanks Tom, appreciate that
I agree with you for every word you said.
Beautiful images Nigel ❤️😍
Great Video, Blunt umbrella is a must I have one strapped to my camera bag which is used far more as a wind break than rain shelter. Harris is stunning I have just been for a couple of days as well wanting that dramatic light however I was not blessed with them dark clouds. I have still come away with some stunning images.
Yeh Harris is literally a mind blower.. and challenging playground for photographers
Superbes ambiances. En Ecosse, il y a toujours le lumière, même éphémère après une tempête. Lumières changeantes en font un endroit toujours photogéniques. Bravo
Thank you for the tip Sir... Really helpful 🙏🙏😊
Great work !
Great video!! Great to be outside as long as there are no thunderstorms around. 😜
Thanks for the video Nigel, interesting to see the challenges of getting some of those great shots. Thanks also for the live chat over on PhotoPills channel - and was that a Vistas exclusive at the end ;-)
Brilliant!
Stunning! I will not sit in the car when it rains again in Scotland ☺️ love Pebbles 🐾
Hi Nigel! Awesome video, as always. ;) We were athe the Old Man of Storr 2 years ago, and decided to hike up in the rain. The weather got so bad we couldn't even see the Old Man while standing at the base of it. Worth it anyway. :) But I have to get my self a weathersealed camera some day.
Brings back some memories. The wettest I've ever been was at Sligachan, could have kept goldfish in my goretex pockets! It just helps to make the Talisker taste even better afterwards...
Thank you , tips will used
Unbelievable photos Nigel. Even by your high standards these are exceptional!
Super image, great video and advice.
I wouldn't want to cross the bridge in that storm! Amazing shots!
The tips are important for shooting in subzero temperatures too. When I go out in the winter, I don't even touch my camera gear for several hours after I get home.
wow absolutely stunning.....
Great video A gain
Getting out in bad weather is great for wildlife photography also. Can be completely miserable experience but if you get a shot it’s all worth it.
Such a great video and conversation! Getting out there in the “bad” conditions can get you the best photographs and you also get a memorable experience of Mother Nature and the adventure, which is really my favorite part. As you are talking about being out the rain while shooting, what is the best way to edit the occasional rain drop that was on your lense out of your image? Thanks again for sharing these experiences. I sure can’t wait to be able to travel from the states over to Northern Europe!
Great tips!
6.56 GREAT!!❤️❤️
Yo, Squarespace. I watch the ads, and thanks Nigel, for sharing this source though it is sponsoring you.
"Support every hard working photographers out there"
4mins in the vid and I 100% agree that I wished I was out in the rain finding a great spot and patiently waiting for the sun to peek. I have so many days I regret not going out.
"Just lightly touching it is better than rubbing it hard. Or even blowing it ... " - Nigel Danson.
Wow, amazing location, Im now saving for some good waterproofs and a blunt bromley too! Thank you :-)
Love that shot with the road. Sort of shot I would have loved to have got back in the old B&W film days
It still is the old black and white days, just shoot film
@@larson0014 no going back for me I'm afraid:-(
Pushing Tri-X to ASA 800!
Some really great shots there Nigel, I think I must of been over on Skye the same few days on my bus 🤣👍🏻 I've some great shots from being out in the bad weather, I think it gives the shot something else and a bit more life about it, I think a particular shot can look the same as the next persons if taken in those what we call perfect conditions but to take it in bad weather is where it stands out from the rest. 👍🏻
I'm instantly jealous of those weather conditions!
and LOVELY !!🐕❤️❤️
Hi Nigel, this was a huge lesson!! Living in Ireland.....😂
Great video Nigel! It was a great week - thanks for having me along!
Another tip for going out in bad conditions that I learnt was that it’s a lot easier when you share those conditions with someone else. I think we both mentioned that we we’d have been tempted not to brave going out in it had we been on our own... well, perhaps that was more me!
It was me too!
Pebbles comes into the picture. I push like 😂👍🏻
Thanks says Pebs
the intro is so amazing and shows how high your level is about filming
Thanks 👍🏼
Pebbles
Excellent photography Nigel. Looking forward to hopefully a future video which expands on the unique photo at 10:57. Wow, £500 for a jacket and a £110 for an Umbrella though, that costs more than my camera equipment.
Hi Nigel, thanks for the vlog. I was planning a trip to Torridon over that wet weekend but the forecast put me off, I remember seeing your video of the bridge on the BBC News website. Fortunately I had the following week off work and went to Torridon on the following Wednesday. Arrived at Loch Clair at 6:30am (30 minutes before sunrise) and had a tremendous day, really enjoyed it. The early start allows so much to be fitted into a day.
Sounds great!
Good advice for those of us who get those rains.
I find it hard to get out in good weather .... let alone bad lol ,
Great tips and good motivation , I always have in mind to get out to a pier or a lighthouse during a storm ( staying well safe of course ) and capture the crazy waves crashing , might do it next time there is a storm coming .... again making sure i dont become a person needing rescue
"Nikons are tough." Absolutely. I actually managed to dunk mine (a hoary but reliable ol' brick of a D90) completely in seawater (along with most of myself). It was only under for a second or two and I yanked it back up before trying to yank myself back up. Don't try this at home (assuming you have seawater in your home). But amazingly, after drying it off as best I could in the field, and giving it a good freshwater wipedown once I got home, it still functions as if it never took that unexpected dip in the Mediterranean. I still have the scars from how I landed on the rocks in the water, but my D90 still looks new. And a little cleaner than it was.
I'm off to Skye for a couple of weeks beginning of November so I was taking in all the info about rainy conditions, I have been too Scotland every year for the past few years and also to Skye my favourite Island, this was a lovely video delivered in your normal articulate way, beautifully put together and those images were just outstanding utterly superb, cannot wait for the next instalment. regards, Colin.
Awesome - make sure you visit Elgol!
The best camera shots was when I forgot to take my camera with me. One was on the road to Oban early morning an golden eagle landed on a post on the bend of the road we seen it come down swoop onto a post beside the road and stayed there for 10min, stopped the car 10 metres from it, was magic. Now I keep a cheap camera in the car at all times but the opertunites never seem to arrive when the camera is with me
You released this video at the perfect time for me. Im going to the lake district next week and the weather forecast is looking "interesting". Going to dig out my water proofs and force myself to climb up a fell even if its not looking so nice. Thanks for uploading and reminding me to get the hell outside!!!
Have fun!
This video comes in the right time. Tuesday I will go for 3 days at the lake district, based in Grasmere. It's 7 years that I live in the UK and it's the first time for me visiting the Lake district park. I'm very exited and I can't just wait
First time!!! Where have you been... you will love it
@@NigelDanson I've been few times in the Peak district that is closer to where I live. And thankyou, I'm sure that I will love it :)
