They are a huge unifying force for good - they are above the bickering of politics, and only about what is good for everyone, not in the dictatorial way of politicised organisations such as the UN, but like loving parents. Watch the People's Pageant, and the Jubilee Concert, and you will see real love and national unity. There is also continuity - when there is a thread of heritage going back 1500 years, we have the feeling that change is nothing to fear - no matter what happens, as long as that thread remains intact, we are still here, we can adapt, welcome, absorb, and thrive. We are all British, like a patchwork quilt, many colours and textures, but part of the whole. Our Queen, and the standards she has set for our monarchy, have ensured that.

It's consistency, for better or worse, in a country, culture and hemisphere that's undergone a huge paradigm shift in the threescore years and ten (there's a phrase that should resonate with U.S. nationals) that she's been on the throne.
But I think your "celebrity, just on a grander scale" comment gets to the root of the difficulty that many in the U.S.A. have in understanding the significance and relevance of the Royal Family. I also think it's the reason that *as* a U.S. national, Meghan Markle failed to grasp what becoming a member of the Royal Family would entail. She did indeed think it was going to be instant hypercelebrity, Disney/Barbie Princess In Real Life, and couldn't or wouldn't engage with the actual dedication and service involved with what is, after all, a *constitutional* monarchy.

I truly just came here to see what Americans in the comments really thought of the queen. I know from a child my mother was always obsessed with Diana. I grew to really like her as well with her humanitarianism & of course going through what her husband & his mother the queen put her through. Watching it all play out on the news. When her death was broadcast we were heart broken. Since then, we don't care to watch the royals or seek what they are up to, until most recently, once again broadcasted that Meghan was ousted and her children's titles stripped from them because of a "tainted bloodline." So for me now, the queen represents racism, bigotry etc. I'm not surprised with most people in the comments saying Meghan chose to leave, ok so be it, she chose to not be treated less than. It will only be a matter of time before Harry runs back to granny anyhow because he is truly one of them. I am not here to entice any negativity I'm just genuinely saying my point of view regarding what the news and documentaries showed in our household. If that's not your opinion that's ok. I am not taking away from any good the queen has done for those less fortunate but rather for those whom are her family, she's choosing lineage rather than who she surrounds herself with. I also am not saying anything about her ruling because idk what she has or has not done for the UK. All I know is my government, supposedly a democracy is trash on the edge of totalitarianism.

How sad that you are kept in ignorance of your own history!
Key facts: George 3rd, like our Queen, was a constitutional monarch - all decisions were made by parliament.
      All colonies were self-governing.
We had fought a 7 year war against the French, defending the colonies against the French who wanted to occupy them.
We won that war, expanding the territory of the 13 colonies, and sighing treaties with the Native Americans, guaranteeing the western lands for their people. We also installed a small standing force to defend those borders.
There were 240 pennies in every pound. The war had doubled our military spending, as well as costing life and limb. In Britain, only the top 5% of the population paid taxes, and they were paying 6 pennies in every pound in tax. The government asked the wealthiest 5% of the population in the American colonies to contribute half a penny in every pound to pay for the cost of the war.
      They refused.
When we attempted to recoup the cost of the war through taxes on the luxury goods which these vastly wealthy people used, they incited mobs to rampage, destroying property and killing innocent people.
They demanded that if they were to actually contribute toward their own defence, they must have seats in British parliament (despite already having their own independent governments) - and were told, that would entail them becoming British domestic territory and if they became British domestic territory, they would have to give up their slaves, because owning slaves was illegal in Britain.
They refused - because, of the 52 men who signed the declaration of independence, 46 were slave-owners.
George Washington was from an aristocratic family and on grounds of privilege, he demanded promotion within the British Army - he was blocked from this, because he refused to stop raiding Native American villages, slaughtering innocent men, women and children, and breaking our treaties. When he carried out yet another massacre, and made clear that he, along with the other "founding fathers" intended to carry out the genocide of the Native American peoples, he was listed for Court Martial. He then incited more mobs, attacking all those who simply wanted to continue to live peacefully. He was nicknamed fire-starter because of his habit of sealing loyalists into their homes and burning them to death.
Eventually he and his mobs terrorised people who had carved their homes from wilderness over centuries, to the extent that 35% of the population fled the colonies leaving the scum of the Earth in charge.
However, they were no match for the British military - especially as the hugely wealthy American elites who had incited the mob and called them the "continental army" were too cheap and selfish to actually provide for the men who they had convinced to fight for the right of the massively wealthy to carry out genocide, keep slaves, and not contribute to their own defences - the "continental army" had no boots, food, uniforms, munitions - and they had to return to their homes for harvest etc.
So - in a truly repulsive act of treachery - they persuaded the French to fight their war for them, with the promise of repayment. This was akin to, say, the Hawaiians inviting the Taliban to help them achieve independence from the USA.
The French won the War of Independence, and were "rewarded" by the cheap, wealthy American elites refusing to repay them, either.
While the rich Americans cheerfuly carried out genocide and clung to slavery, leading to the Civil War, the decimation of America's wealthy exprt states in the South, the KKK, Jim Crow Laws, and decades of racial tension, the French went bankrupt, triggering the French Revolution and the Terror, including the public beheading of over 300,000 people including children. This led to the rise of Napoleon and 10 years of massacre and warfare world-wide, especially in the neighbouring small German statelets, which led to the unification of the German Empire under Prussia, resulting in WW1, resulting in the Russian Revolution, the rise of Hitler, WW2, the Holocaust, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Communist occupation of Europe and elsewhere in the world, resulting in the Vietnam War, the dependence on oil-rich states, 9/11, 30 years of war for oil, mass movements of refugees, widespread terrorism, thousands of deaths of European civilians, the perceived weakness of western society, the expansion of China, the emboldening of Putin. the invasion and genocide of Ukrainians, the possibility of nuclear annihilation.
But hey! Some vastly wealthy Americans in powdered wigs didn't have to pay half a penny out of 240 pennies in taxes, so "let freedom ring!"
Come to think of it, the same vastly wealthy Americans these days have convinced you that while the rest of the world "suffers" the horror of having universal healthcare, Americans can enjoy the "freedom" of choosing between suicide and bankruptcy when they get cancer.
Even that 2nd Amendment is nonsense - at the time, EVERYONE "bore arms". We can still own guns if we are verified sane, trained, and with good reason to own them - but we don't have a tradition of gunning down school-children and old ladies in shops.
You Americans are seriously in need of a revolution - and they let you carry on arming lunatics who carry out massacres, because you are deluded, by that 2nd Amendment, into thinking you are free and in control. You are not.
Americans are (imo) the nicest people in the world - but American government is the most rotten and evil, and it makes Americans into mushrooms - fed bullshit and kept in the dark.

Just here to day not all of us are pro-monarchy here in the UK. I feel like there’s no place for a monarchy in a modern democracy and people being born into such a position is wrong. I’d rather vote in a head of state. We have a lot of poverty here in the UK. I’m in a minority though. So while I disagree with having a monarchy, I know that the majority must be respected.

I’m not being pro or anti American nor pro/anti British here in my comment (though I do have strong opinions about many governments including the English, but just not debating it here, that would take an essay). by the way. If you believe the Queen, the Canadian Head of State could simply drive off one morning and 'disappear' for God alone knows how many hours, kidnap and dispose of a busload of kids without anybody noticing, you are out or you mind.
      5. Her stays in Canada are programmed, diarised and scheduled. The RCMP know where she, is the whole time she's on Canadian soil and she's never entirely alone.
      6. What have you got in your head - sawdust?
"She" has NEVER played a direct part in the government of Canada.
      7. Can you imagine the US President or any other head of state visiting Canada disappearing for what ... a whole day with no one knowing where he/she is and what he/she is doing?
Imagine the TV coverage for a start:
"Day 3 of the president's visit and we haven't a clue where he's been or what he's been doing today. He disappeared this morning and only got back twenty minutes ago."
