      My sentiments exactly. I have a Samsung 4K monitor, it was cheap at the time, for my 2012 mac mini, and whilst it's OK for what it is, there is no comparison to the 5K screen on my 2014 27" iMac. But I could definitely go for an M1 16Gb Mac Mini as a secondary machine, and then wait to replace my iMac. I suspect that will be a 30" screen, and better all round performance than my current iMac.

      It's a shame Apple designing their own silicon like this didn't drive the price down to a friendlier level, or at least curtail their penchant for vastly overcharging for memory and SSD upgrades. Can't argue with the performance figures though.
      That said, inclined to wait for "M2" variants, as don't immediately need something new, and would hate to have laid out over a £1000 for something now when I can afford to see how the hardware matures. At least it's saved me money by shelving the Ryzen 5000 series Hackintosh I was going to build. Will put a little of that money into beefing up my 2009 Mac Pro instead for now.

      I have to see a real test. Throwing 5 minutes of footage on a timeline is nothing. When you have hundreds of clips, effects, compound clips, etc. ram is essential. There’s no architecture around that. Sure, 8 gb in silicon may be better than 8 gb in intel, but it will be nowhere near 16 or 32, and even that can be tight depending on projects.

    • @visualstudiosproductions
      @visualstudiosproductions Před 3 lety +4

      @@markasplinhq No need to go so far. Most semi pro editors will eventually run into 10, 15, 20 minute projects. Those will need vastly more information in ram at once. It's normal to get a project with hundreds of files even at an amateur level. Testing a 5 minute export with a couple cuts is not the same thing at all. The performance looks outstanding, I can't wait to get one. But it would be nice to see higher ram options. It's also a matter of bottleneck - the cpu is way too good for the amount of ram it has, it's not balanced. The gpu is also nothing special, but it's enough for most video editing, given the cpu.

    I’m thinking of getting the M1 Mac Mini (16GB, 512SSD) as my desktop and the iPad Air 4 as my portable travel device. Do you think that setup is a worthwhile investment? Or should I go with the high spec MacBook Pro (16 RAM, 1 TB SSD)? The price for both these options are kind of similar. I already have a magic keyboard and mouse, so I don’t have to get those for the iPad. Also have external monitors. This will be my replacement for the 2012 MBP which just died. Probably the only accessory needed is going to be a USB C Dongle, which is the same for all the devices. Mostly using it for photo editing and small amounts of video editing. Your thoughts?

    It is my humble suggestion/ request to all tech-reviewers doing all these benchmarks.
    Please cover the following questions in a simple manner, For ordinary user
    1) When you plug in the old USB-peripherals like HP printer-cum-scanner models which were manufactured some 5 years ago and do not have the latest drivers at present but working fine otherwise with the windows computers, Does such devices function properly with this new macs?
    2) When you plug in 21" monitors with 1080p and 1440p resolutions with VGA/Displayport inputs dongle/converters Into this machine- Does it work properly or does it give some blurry fonts effect? Because Everyone does not have the money or space to buy latest gigantic 4K monitor.
    3) if the 8GB RAM is shared between CPU-GPU, how fast/better is it for Ordinary work compared to the Intel graphics-chip in laptops in dual-monitor setup- Because even though in real life often laptops struggles to work in dual monitor setup when using Google Chrome browser with online meeting/webcam-mic on? Or does every person really need to upgrade to 16GB to Get those very fast results shown /claimed by the company and reviewers?
    4) Compared to HP/Dell/Lenovo laptops with SSD in similar price point- Whether this thing is faster or slower or same speed- For ordinary things like Microsoft office and web browsing?
    5) Does it smoothly work with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel?
    6) While using zoom online meeting, and google 'meet'- How smooth/noiseless/glitch-free it is? How noise-free is the microphone?
    Because, "it can edit/export the 4K videos in Final Cut Pro in very fast manner" = is not really the matter of life and death for most of the computer users across the world in general and India in particular.

      @Sakomaru707 Před 3 lety

      I don't own it, but I have watched many reviews of it. From my research, it is the fastest machine in it's price range regarding normal use. The system is radiculously snapy, you can switch between apps with no delay. I can probably answer a few of your questions:
      3) For normal user 16GB will be useless. The guy in the video is doing some really intensive work using 8GB, so web browsing and Office won't need the additional RAM.
      5) Even my older Intel Mac works perfectly with it. This one will not be any different (saw some videos of it too).
      6) It is a desktop computer, so it doesn't have a built in mic. You would need to use an additional one.
      I hope I've helped at least a bit :)

The price to performance ratio on previous MacBooks was poor. This generation, I feel compelled! By next-gen, with better app compatibility, the MacBook by is going to be a no-brainer. But I am still very apprehensive about entering the ecosystem and spending extra for my peripherals and lack of ports and the general apple issues that happen when apple tries to be extra.
