BIG winner, Discover. I've had non stop issues with Crapital One customer service for years. Phone system fails, 2 step validation fails, overseas validation needlessly complex, no product change, hours on hold, and on. After the last fiasco, it is permanently in the drawer. I'll pay the occasional 3% foreign fee to Chase or AmEx (2.7%) just to be able to deal with a company that treats me like a customer. AmEx wants to solve problems when I call as does Discover. Crapital One just creates them. They look good on paper, but nothing they offer is worth trash customer service and a network of software that seems to have been written on an Apple 2e.
But ask me what I really think.
    Good subject.
You could do a lot of these on just customer service. Most card videos barely touch on it. After 50 years of credit cards, I appreciate what that is worth. But newer users might like to hear about it before they get stung. I remember the very first experience with AmEx years back. A merchant had raised the price on me for a pre ordered book. AmEx just credited me the difference. One call, one explanation, no problem. My jaw dropped and they've had me for life.

I have both. Customer service is great with Discover and Capital One is terrible. The other problem I see with Capital One is that they pull all 3 major bureaus for their cards. That’s just ridiculous. None of their cards are worth 3 hard pulls. As far as credit lines, I’m at $30,000 with Discover and only $4000 with Capital One.

Of course u scored this video correctly,, Adam u are the credit boss, i had a charge made to my credit card (cap1 venture) last month $205, i never recieved the service i paid for, for 3 weeks i was back & forth emailing the vendor who had no phone customer servive due to covid, called cap1 & asked if they could help me, they immediately credited my card for the $205, they filed a dispute with the vendor for me, the $205 was refunded by the vendor back to my account with 2-3days, i called cap1 to thank them & tell them they could take back the credit they gave me, the money (cap1 credit) is still there as of today, i know they will eventually take their money back, but i appreciate them fighting for me, I LUV CAPITAL ONE BANK,,, great video Adam!!!

    • @PJBrunet
      @PJBrunet Před 4 lety

All cards do that, it's called a "chargeback" and it can really hurt the business because I think there is a penalty for the merchant. (Maybe this has changed but I heard the penalty was very high for merchants with X chargebacks.) That's one reason Bitcoin is popular, it's a one-way transaction with no chargebacks.

  • @donaldrobertson5747

Discover is certainly a one trick pony, the Discover IT is really the only card worth getting. But damn is it a good card. Even the secure card gives rewards, unlike Cap1 secure. Nearly everyone would put it in their top 5 cards to carry (or Freedom I guess if you are heavy chase sphere). Customer service is better than nearly all CC's out there. Cap1 has better range, but not graduating secured card is major PIA for people trying to dig themselves outta hole. Cap1 does have better range of cards, but for newbs or people rebuilding they are outta reach anyways. If their better cards attract you then can apply later.

I got both Capital One Quicksilver and Discover a few months apart and both gave me the same $10K starting limit but my Discover card has grown to $17K with several CLI while Capital One rejected me for the one CLI I asked for. Both give me balance transfer offers but CapOne stopped their offers a couple months ago while I still have offers available from Discover.
I also like Discover's rotating 5% categories while all you get with CapOne is the standard 1.5% cash back so I would pick Discover but both are good.

What kind of limit should I expect with a good score? I'm using this card a lot and hope they will raise my limit. • @thefirestarterpack4235

Great video Adam, I tend to agree that Discover has the slight edge. For their student card offerings I give the Discover a slight advantage. Also Discover provides a free / easy to access FICO score versus a Vantage score for Capital One. One feature where Capital One comes out on top is privacy / fraud protection by allowing virtual numbers to be used. Their app and website support creating them and they have a fairly easy to use plugin for your browser so you can easily manage virtual cards for websites. That feature alone closes most of the gap between the two.
Look forward to your next video!

I've had a relationship with both myself for about 3 years now and I can see great things about both companies. I like Capitol One because of its larger diversity of cards and pairing with MC/Visa for acceptance overall. I also enjoy getting 5% bonus cash with Discover of course, and have found a nice mix between using both issuers in tandem. I think that if Discover could create a flat 1.5% or 2% card in addition to the Miles card, they could give the Quicksilver and Double Cash some more competition as well. I have a much larger credit limit with Capitol One, but could ask for more with Discover if I needed, which is nice....well since my last credit limit request...hard to say in this market.

Discover customer service is hands down the best credit card customer service in United States. I really don't agree with you giving advantage to Capital one for several reasons
1 - Discover has the best customer service in United States.
2 - Once you become their customer and show them financial responsibility they send you one offer after another one, balance transfer, 0% APR etc. (I actually have taken 0% APR for 12 months 4 times with my existing discover it card)
3 - Better savings account, money market accounts. They pay higher interest rates, free checks, money orders, cashier checks and has no fees associated with those accounts.
4 - Mobile app experience better in my opinion. Integration of credit, saving, money market accounts in the same app, very clean, very friendly
5 - The only checking account that gives you 1% cash back on debit purchases.
The only real advantage of capital one is that they use visa and mastecard network that is all. I had a capital one secured card 6 years ago and it was impossible to get an upgrade to a better card, I had to get it cancelled, customer service was actually a pain on the neck.

I have both a Cap One Quicksilver and Discover It Cash Back. By far I love my Discover Card. Both have $500 credit limits but, I tend to use Discover a little more due to the 5% categories. I have had Cap One longer and started with $300. I absolutely love talking to Discover Customer Service due to they are usually in America and can fully understand our language. Cap One Customer Service hasn't been bad but they are usually outsourced and sometimes there is a language barrier there. Even though I have a much higher limit with Bank of America Cash Rewards card well $2000 is for me since I am rebuilding after illness. I would say I do prefer to used my Discover Card for the categories and Bank of America Cash Rewards for everything else. Cap One is kinda in a category by itself, just when it does not give me the cash rewards the other two do. Next and only card Im looking to get in the future will be an AmEx Gold. Then I will be done. Another great video, enjoy each and everyone.

@@jgomez1589 cap1 is a pita with upgrading you to decent cards ie quicksilver. They like to trap you into quicksilverone which is 1.5% back with a 40$ annual fee. Either quicksilver card become irrelevant later on as there are better cards then 1.5% back. Cap1 is also a pita on credit line increases as they want you to carry a large balance and use more than half your limit before increasing which is terrible for your credit score. Discover wants to get you up the ladder to the it card if you start with anything below that with them. All their cards are no annual fee. There student and secured cards are the best subprime offerings available. The it card never becomes obselete because the 5% categories are attractive to use at any stage of your credit toolbox building. Amex provides generous credit limits to relatively thin file accounts. Chase has the trifecta which gets great rewards and bonuses and benefits for relatively few cards.

I am trying to rebuild my credit after a divorce and wanted a Discover Secured card but I got declined. I called Customer SVC and the days because I opened up a Self Lender acct 2 mo prior. So I had no choice but to try for Cap 1 and they approved me for $200 😩. So embarrassing felt like a kick to the stomach but I guess I have to start somewhere. But now I’m hearing how terrible Cap1 is with customer SVC and credit increases !! This sucks 😤

In my opinion and based on my experience with both:
-Captial One has better cards, benefits, insurances and variety, but lower credit limits with seldom or no credit line increases.
-Discover has much better customer service, higher credit limits, frequent or periodic credit line increases, but plain jane no AF cards.

If you think about it, it’s better to start lower anyways and work your way up. If I would have started with a $2,000 line of credit when I was first starting out with credit I’d be $2,000 in debt versus the $300 I had with Capital One! Just my opinion since I was never taught about credit or how to manage that when I was younger.
