    I use the Pod Go on bass. Playing live, the ‘amp out’ jack is an excellent feature on the Pod Go that I plug into the return of my effects loop of my amp. This way I’m using the preamp of the Pod Go with the power section of my amp. I plug the Pod Go’s output to the mixer to include cab simulation. Also, the bass overdrives are excellent. Pod Go is brilliant for bass.

    Enjoyed the review.
    I started with the Helix Floor in 2017. In Dec 2019 I bought the HX Stomp as a scaled-back rig for those Sundays when I played only acoustic & didn't need all the effects of the full Helix and didn't want to lug my big Helix Floor. But then the PodGo came out, with the built-in Exp pedal, and I bought it in May 2020 to replace the Stomp. However I soon realized that the Stomp had a lot more flexibility and DSP power in terms of customizing a signal path than did/does the PodGo. But I didn't like the fact that the Stomp only has 3 foot switches, limiting the number of Snapshots and ability to switch easily between Presets. In other words, I liked the user interface of the PodGo better than the Stomp, but I liked the signal creation flexibility of the Stomp better than the PodGo!
    Along comes the Stomp XL, which combines the signal creation flexibility and DSP power of the Stomp with the better user interface of the PodGo! So I just bought the Stomp XL a few weeks ago, and I'm going to sell the Stomp and PodGo. Yes, the XL lacks the Exp pedal of the PodGo, but I don't mind adding an external Exp pedal. And the whole thing is still way smaller/compact than my full Helix Floor rig. I still love the full Helix, and I use that when playing lead guitar or when I'm the only guitar player. But if I'm playing only rhythm or acoustic, and don't need the full power of the Helix, the Stomp XL is perfect.
    Oh, and yes, you can change the direction of the Preset/Bank Up/Down footswitches: Global Settings --> Footswitches --> Swap Up/Down ON

  • @bolland83

    Coming from a tube amp and fx pedals I don't find the Pod Go limiting at all. It's actually more flexible than a "traditional" setup in some ways. And let's be honest, it's an easy trap to fall into fiddling with knobs more than you're actually practicing, so having limits isn't necessarily a bad thing. That said, I can mimic my "traditional" rig with 3 patches or less, and with a lot less of the tap dance routine required for switching things on and off. Also, the ability to plug in headphones, or straight to the PA and get consistent results every time. For me, I'd say it's advantages outweigh the limitations of the DSP. And if I do hit the wall and run out of fx, it's time to stop fiddling and start playing again, lol.

    So, I have both ... and did compare both the HX stomp and the POD against my Helix LT as I needed a travel rig. The HX stomp sounds definitely better, and in fact, the Helix LT and the HX Stomp XL sound the same, although some of my LT patches are not compatible with the HX stomp due to the number of blocks.
    One factor I think you didn't mention was the patch portability between the Helix products, including HX native, which is a big plus for some.
    So between the sound difference, which might be less noticeable in a band context, and the patch portability and flexibility, going with the HX Stomp was a no brainer for me. But both are really nice units, though, as most Line 6 products.

    Hi there!

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před rokem +1

      POD Go definitely to use as all in one! I even use the XL as all in one all the time. Just miss the expression pedal sometimes. If I knew 1) I wanted it on a pedalboard with other pedals 2) really cared about a parallel split path, then I’d invest in the XL. Otherwise the POD Go.
      The split path is really great for creating a wet / dry sounds. Like for bass players, who like to run an overdrive in parallel so the full signal goes through the top path and a distortion is applied in parallel. Sounds a lot better.
      But MOST of the time those are not issues for me

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před 2 lety +5

      The HX Stomp XL has 8 empty blocks that you can fill with whatever you want (as DSP allows). So in theory you could have 8 Overdrives! In the POD Go, 6 of the 10 blocks are already set for a particular type of effects (Amp, cab, fx loop, volume, wah, and EQ). That ;eave 4 empty blocks to add whatever you want. The set blocks can be changed to any effect you want within it's type...meaning you can choose whatever amp you want in the amp block...but you can't make it a reverb...hope that makes sense

    In your opinion which one can I be more versatile with?

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před rokem

      hmmmm....do you want it to be an all-in-one only? Because the expression with the POD Go is really great. It's light weight....but doesn't really fit on a pedalboard very well if that's a goal. It is a little more limited technically as far as DSP, but you don't really notice because they took out any of the effects that take up a lot. ( I never use those anyways). The main pros of the XL is that its small enough to fit on a pedalboard AND it has the capability to do parallel routing. Meaning you can drag effects down on the B Path to create some other sounds. Run a wet / dry sound for example...or even run multiple instruments thru it at the same time. What do you think is most important for you?

    • @larry77lee
      @larry77lee Před 6 měsíci

      Bottom line is your application. Everyone has a pedal story but I am concluding with convenience and applied limitations. The Helix Floor is a beast and can satisfy most players who like building guitar tones and the back panel is loaded with conveniences. However, it is Big, somewhat heavy like a packed pedal board. I love mine but got tired of hauling it back and forth to church. So I bought an HX Stomp XL, found a new Line 6 expression pedal cheaply and have found the XL to be the answer. I truly love the tones I'm getting and it is less complicated than my Helix Floor. My leads are crisp and dreamy and fills are working perfectly with my presets that can be tweaked when needed with HX Edit. Loving it.

Buy a Line6 Catalyst amp - it already had built in Helix amp, reverb, and delay simulations (or pitch effects) and channel switching, which you can use for an alternative config. Then, you can run a Pod Go into it for effects (just turn off the amp/cab simulation). So all your OD/distortion pedals. This is a pretty versatile setup.

      Idk if you “need” it. Both sound good for bass but know that if you get the Stomp, it has a stereo parallel path. Meaning you can drop things down on a B path which a lot of people like to do their overdrives for bass. That way you get the overdrive tone on top of the bass tone, but the a path still retains the full bass tone. So you’ll know what I’m talking about if you’ve ever played bass, and then put on a tube screamer in series, you get a nice over driven sound, but it cuts a lot of the low end out being able to bring things down on another path solve that issue.

    Furthermore, the PodGo can only sample IRs at 100ms, whereas the Stomp can sample them at 200ms. That can make a slight or significant difference depending on the player or IR used. All in all, they are both fantastic products IMO

      Can you explain how to use the IRS? What I mean is how do you use them? Can I set up a patch with an IR and run it into my head/cab? Thanks!

      @bluetinmusic_ Před 2 lety +3

      @@prometherion3089 I mainly use the IR functionality in the PodGo for acoustic impulse responses to give my acoustic guitar better plugged in tone (more mic like), but also as a replacement for the built in electric cabs in the PodGo. I simply like the IR cabs I have much better.
      And while I don’t fully understand your question, if you have a physical amp head that is crucial for your tone, and you don’t want to carry around your speaker cabinet, you can run the amp head in the effects loop of the HX Stomp or PodGo and then use an IR cabinet of your choice for digital cab emulations. I personally have not done this, so I cannot comment on how well this works, but I’m sure people do this.

      @bluetinmusic you've inspired me to just do a tone test video...all settings EXACTLY the same and record a loop, and see if there is a difference!

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před 2 lety

      @Prometherion Soto clarify, in IR or Impulse Response is a 'capture' of a mic'd up cab. It replaces the cab. You can put an IR after an amp model, or just as @bluetinmusic said, you can run the amp head (only) section through the FX loop of your HX/POD Go and use an IR as the 'digital' cab...This would allow you to use your person real-life amp and still go direct to FOH.

      @@HeyWorshipLeader Thank You! I think I get it now. So basically you cant use the IR's with a whole head/cab setup. you would have to run it into something else.

    Normally the HX Stomp XL is $750. The $650 is a current sale price. Have the Pod Go. If the HX Stomp XL was $650 when I bought the Pod Go, would've gone with the the stomp. Seems more versitile. I'm really missing the MIDI ports.

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před 2 lety

      Yes...I noticed as well...it happened when I switched to my single coil pickup. I know they are more noisy, but I haven't had time to figure out how to fix it...I feel like it's a power thing in my studio...which is not finalized yet...still moving things around...all that to say, it's not the XL.

      Alot of extra noise with the xl. Pod go very clean. Just not stereo to my ears.

    I actually thought the Stomp XL sounded better. Is that possible?

    • @MattCrill
      @MattCrill Před 2 lety

      Not sure how that could be. Both use the same HX core engine/algorithms. It's the same amps/cabs/effects minus a few DSP intensive ones in the Pod Go (as Jimmy mentioned). Blind A-B would be the way to know for sure.

    • @samueldaviddas5288

      Sounds like the POD GO was recorded in mono whereas the Stomp XL was recorded in stereo. Hence why the XL sounds better.

    • @samueldaviddas5288

      I assume the POD GO would've sounded way closer to the Stomp XL if it was recorded in stereo.

      Yes I believe there’s a difference. I commented about the Helix and HX Stomp models all having a guitar impedance circuit on the input jack, but the PodGo does not have this. In my experience, there is a slight difference in the quality of the tone and feel

    • @HeyWorshipLeader
      @HeyWorshipLeader  Před 2 lety +2

      Ok! Everyone, I decided to make a video and put all 4 units head to head with the EXACT settings and make sure they are all stereo! I must have moved the cab behind the delay's and forgot about it because that was definitely recorded in mono. My apologies. I'll make sure all Global EQ's are off, and that every preset is set up with the lowest common denominator...I this case the POD Go. And we'll if there are any differences...I'll even loop my playing for each recording! ok...time to record!
