How to get great guitar tones - sE Electronics VR-1 ribbon mic

The VR-1 Voodoo is a must have for recording guitarists. It's so easy to get great tones and in this clip I show some ways to get creative with the figure of eight polar pattern.

I saw a guy place the ribbon and the 57’s diaphragm in perfect alignment, even taking into account that the 57s capsule is recessed in about an inch.
This is to avoid phase cancellation.
Place the ribbon dead center and the 57 where the center meets the speaker basket.

For me, these are some of the best guitar tones I’ve heard in a long time. I could’ve missed it in the video I was driving while listening; what are you using for mic preamps? Are you using any kind of in-line gain boost like a Cloudlifter or dynamite?

Are there any ribbons that have other polar patterns are is the figure 8 always the way and signature for Ribbons?

yes i know Beyerdynamic and aea both make one, but its a rare thing.
