One of the questions following the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI is where he will be buried. The Holy See has confirmed that his body will be transferred to the Crypt of the Popes after his funeral. It will be located in one of the chapels of the Vatican grotto closest to the tomb of St. Peter. The tomb was formerly the resting place of St. John XXIII and St. John Paul II before they were moved to the Basilica above.

Lovely message, but unfortunately none of us know who are in heaven, the souls of popes could be in purgatory awaiting their day to go to heaven. We have to pray daily to God for their souls so they can soon enter heaven.
Sadly he’s in hell. He never repented of his sins and followed the real Jesus. Also, where is purgatory mentioned in the Bible ? 🤔

OK, I'm confused. Why were John 23 and John Paul 2 removed and taken to the grotto? So Popes don't get to stay where they were first buried?
Under the Basilica there is a "cave" where several Popes are buried (you can visit it from the stairs inside the basilica). When a pope becomes Saint, his body is usually moved in the basilica upstairs and the place where he was buried is used again.
John Paul II was buried in the ground in the place that you see in the video and then moved in the basilica. So the place where he was is now empty.
It doesn't matter where his body goes. Now where his soul goes... Well he chose somewhere nice and warm... Very warm.

St. John Paul II is buried in a side altar in St. Peter's Basilica now because he is a Saint. It's funny. My mother's father was a nephew of S. S. Venerabilis Pivs pp XII.
