Can we talk about how she just casually mentions the khantoke, like the one that she is using is no big deal? That thing is fit for a palace, and I have no idea where a peasant such as myself could find such a masterpiece.
i’m from northern of thailand, and i’m so happy and proud that miss hong have presented “laab kua” in this video cuz most foreigners who know this menu only knew the isaan-style one, which is okay, but in my opinion, the northern-style laab is the supreme one 😂
and honestly easier to make as well, I hate having to wash additional pot.
I was eating laab kua when I read this comment lol
Most farangs are eating pad Thai 😂 live here 13 years and prefer the issan style since I live in issan😋 seb seb
Laab Isan 😅 it’s the toasted rice for me 😂😂😂
I’m from Thailand too but I’ve never eaten laab before 😭
I like how Epicurious is bringing attention to more regional dishes rather than the more common variations of a dish.
Many American known this dish aswell
It was mentioned in Spider Man (Tom Holland) either
@@sakuraisp6974 As I said, Laab is mostly Issan style. The Laab shown in the movie is Issan style.
@@king_ltc_ Isaan style aka Lao style
Just want to explain a bit. This Laab is from northern Thailand and it’s totally different from I-saan’s(northeastern) Laab which is also a regional dish too. Even in Thailand, I-saan’s Laab is regarded as more commonly known because of the number internal migrants from I-saan to Bangkok. Plz note that Central region doesn’t have a dish like northern or northeastern Laab. 😊
@@BERTHEDELLE You forgot to mention how Isaan larb is Lao.
Can we have more of Chef Hong please???? Like way more because she's amazing!
แจ่มว้าวมาก! (Exceptional!) This is how you do regional Thai dish like this. With proper Thai chef. And I really love how she corrected the pronunciation of the word a lot. You have made our ancestors happy! ปลื้มครับ ❤
More chef Hong pls, I'm Thai and i really hope Northern Thai cuisine will more popular around the world.
This is the most authentic one I've ever seen. It's true to the point that you might not get this exact ลาบ's recipe in Bangkok and can only find it in the Northern Thailand.
The way she's really reining over her accent and try to hold back to not went on full Thai on us everytime she has the opportunity to speak Thai hahahah, such a gorgeous chef that knows her stuff!
Love how you decided to introduce laab kua instead of the more well known northeast laab! As a thai person myself I’m happy to see variety of thai dishes being introduced to people all around the world.
Only Savages eat with their hands. :)
I’m Thai but I’ve never known Laab means to mince lol Thank you chef Hong! That Laab Kua looks really amazing!
I'm an Isan boy, and it's interesting to see a Northern variation of my home culture's common dish. Thanks Epicurious and chef Hong for such a wonderful, delicious, and educational presentation! Hope to see more collaborations from these two.
Born and raised in Chiang Mai and another 15+ y in the State. I've never heard any Thai chef pronounce "LAAB" as "LARB" until today! It's always been "laab," and I'm proud to say I finally found a chef, Chef Hong, who knows it too! lol
Wow!! 🎉😊😊 this dish is excellent 👌!! I can imagine the combinations of the various spices would lend it some serious flavor profile. I appreciate the diversity that Epicurious provides. It shows that food is one of the international languages that brings people together ❤
I'd never seen a steamer setup like that. It was so cool and now I want one, but I have to stop buying kitchen tools based around all the food videos that I watch!
Its quite common in SE asia! Cheap and readily available from your local indopak or asian grocery
They're common here in Florida but Pinellas park is one of the biggest vietnamese communities in the country, so there's a lot of asian markets. I have a set up like that myself and I'm just a black dude from the hood, lol but I'm always in the asian markets
Almost every southeast Asian american has it. You can buy it at a thai or lao supermarket, but they're rare. Not sure about 99 Ranch since it's a Chinese grocery store.
They store pretty nicely 👌
You can cook sticky rice with a rice cooker, there is no need to buy extras unless it's for looks haha.
Chef Hong was so fun! I hope she does more videos.
Thank you for making and sharing this video!! 🙌🏽😋
Chef Hong is amazing. I like her storytelling during the cooking demonstration💓🌷
Looking for this kinda videos from her😋🥰
The cooking is the art, the eating the appreciation. ❤
Keep this up epicurious , you're doing an amazing job.❤
I love the addition of fresh veggies.
Awesome video. I would love it!
My grandma from Northern Germany also had a few recipes combining pork liver and pork meat. The memory of this little commonality made me smile with a warm heart.
Thank you for sharing.
Her English is very clear and useful for beginner like me. Her dish also looks yummy! It was prepared in proper way and I'm really proud of it. If anyone come to Thailand, I recommend to try this dish. It's absolutely amazing!
Woah laab khua from the northern region of thailand! So awesome to see this on such a big channel.
Yes! More Thai recipes and more Chef Hong!
My mom is from the Isan area and wow I've never even heard of this style of larb! Can't wait to try it [mouth drooling]
Omg that is so gorgeous and the platter and that rice!! Thank you ! So authentic !
Finally, a video of a legit way to cook ลาบ. Sending the link to my friend in the uk right now. This lovely chef just helped me saving my time. Explaining my friend how to cook through a video call last time was such a pain.
thank you Chef Hong for sharing such a delicious dish!
Dee plee is called thipilee in tamil. Interesting how the ancient trade routes helped shape language in our part of the world.
Yes ! More Thai food please !
I never knew that there’s a different variation of laab from Northern Thailand. While you’re cooking I was in awe in every step.
Not cooking the mince pork in water
All those spices
The pork liver
No lime
Dry laab
I wanna try this next week after Songkran.
She's so pretty and the way she says laab gives me a smile every time.
Thai chef in Epicurious! This is fantastic!
I will visit Thailand to try their amazing food and explore the country. Manifesting!
A restaurant, Han Teung Chiangmai, in Chiang Mai, is one of the most authentic restaurant that is also suitable for beginners. Recommended.
ตัวตึงมาก ยกมาทั้งขันโตก มีมะแขว่น ดีปลี นี่คือจัดจ้านมากยอมใจในเครื่องเทศ เริสมากกกกกกกก
Thank you for this video. This is my favorite Thai dish❤
Hello, great video, well explained and fun to watch. Loved it.
THAT LOOKS SO GOOOOD
She’s so eloquent. I love this ❤
P' Hong really rocks now on, I am so proud of her!
Thank you for this outstanding presentation !!!
Laab Moo has quickly become one of my go-to dishes in Thai restaurants
Love your presentation of Laab especially the way you cook it ❤
I’m from Thailand i ‘m so glad to see thai food being made in a correct way. Keep in mind that this is very very traditional way, although in modern thai home we use kitchen appliances to help doing some of the process quickly. Some purists would say using modern kitchen tools is not the right way but well… 🤷🏻.
I love these. It’s great seeing food from other cultures, it’s gorgeoussss
I am so glad our country representative for thai food is actually a thai native. There are too many butchered version of "thai food" online
Northern Laab. How awesome!? This is one of my favorites dish . She be done it the authentic way and just right spices. Yummy yummy.
I was following this ch and this clip would be the most of my favourite. The north Thai's food may not spicy like E-san(northern) of another region of Thailand, but charmed with natural taste combination.
LAAB is the one of famous and historic food of the North. In the past, we didn't eat Laab often because its must be exchanged for the life of one large animal (buffalo meat, but nowadays we always use pork) and use a many ingredients also a lot of process to make a dish. So, Laab is food that can be eaten when there is a ritual or event that has a large gathering of people.
In this video, it's not an original process to make Laab but it's easy way to get this dish in 30 minute and by two hands. If anyone have been visiting Chiangmai, I suggest Laab Loong Gan (ลาบลุงแก่น) - my favourite Laab shop there are making original taste of the North Laab and you can try buffalo meat Laab.
That's so impressed! I usually mix pork blood in minced pork, it definitely enhanced the deep taste of it.
Thank you for showing how its eaten the right way🙏
The fact that it's eaten as finger food shocked me! What a wonderful video and highly educational. Thanks Chef Hong!
YES LAAB! thanks for informing the world
Greeting form Chiangmai , Glad to see Laab Kua here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This looks amazing!!!!
Amazing!! ❤️🙏🏽น่ากินมากๆเลยครับ
i need to order Laab Kua (and northern sausage called Sai Ua) from Northern Thai restaurant now😂 thank you Chef Hong. My first time exploring this channel.
I like her presentation.
I’ve had larb/ laab many times and love it but always in Lao restaurants, I will have to try the Thai version.
Splendid!
I like how she pronounces laab so gently
Please do more some southeast asian recipies
I loved having Laab in Thailand. This looks amazing.
Northern cuisine is an another level of Thai food. If you want something new, try it.
I'm really into fried Laab (ลาบทอด), i know it's not traditional, but if you can make it, it's a blessing to be alive and eat this thing 😆
das is my favourite one too! in thai it's kinda rare for me to find since most of people prefer the classic one
Laab Tord is a supremacy.🫶🏻
พน.คงต้องไปซื้อลาบแซ่บๆมากกินแล้วค่ะ From Thailand 🥰🥰
DUDE LAAB KUA IS MY FAVORITE DISH!! surprised to see a thai dish hello!!
I have not had laab for a long time. I was married to a Thai woman, but not now. Now I have been making my own Thai specialties. This looks great.
ok, laab is the cutest word ever. at least how she says it 🥺♥
Northern Laab is a crucial menus at my in-laws house in Phrae. Because they usually need a hand to laab(mince) it properly (which is my usual job 😂). My father in law especially dictates me to co-operate all the clotted pork blood completely into minced pork.
สวัสดีเจ้าาา .... so proud of you ka 😍
OMG ❤ you made my mouth watering right now
this is the most authentic and traditional Thai cooking I’ve seen in western media omg! as a Thai myself, idek that Laab means to mince lmao
I'm Thai, and this episode is very eye-opening even for me bc all my life I've only known E-saan version of Laab! ❤
I would put pigs blood in a bit for the extra darkness to laab but this is awesome and makes me miss my hometown already. Been gone for too long.
this is one of my favorit dishes
I add prik laab to almost every dish for awhile.😂 it's pretty good to pair with almost everything, it's even elevate aglio e olio.
อยากลองเลย ใส่สปาเกตตี้ใส่อั่วน่าจะเวิรค
So that’s what it is!! Sawtooth coriander! I watched because I wanted to know what’s the green herb in the laab / larb that I love to eat but don’t recognise. And the Thai peppercorn!!! Now I know!
I laab this video so much!!
As thai, I LOVE her accent so much
More tip for some people who’s doesn’t know. The leaf is called kaffir leaves. It’s different from limes leaf bc it eatable and more aromatic.
Food is Love perpetually.
I've never expect that I will see the actual Thai chef in this channel!!!
เริ่สมากค่ะ
She is awesome
More more please!
Thank you to bring Laab Mueang Kua to the international audience
Love Laab
I usually don’t like laab but this is making me want some
Love the SE Asian representation. Would love to see Cambodian food on Epicurious!
I went to chiang mai last December and I want to retire there lol😂. I love the place. People. And food!
Northern style Laab isn't sour at all though. Very good, but very different from the normal Laab you get at typical Thai restaurant.
Looks delicious
Larb is one of my fav Thai dishes for sure. Many any Thai dishes are being eaten in Laos too. Fun fact, Larb is Laos' national dish. This implies how Thai cultures play big roles in Laos 😁
great, simple weekday recipe! lol!
เป็นลาบ..ที่ลาบสุด! ลาบที่ชวนหิวว🤤
น่ากินค่า เปนตาแซ่บ
Thai food is awesome.
It's delicious.
Fuiyoh!! That is some serious pounding, Chef Hong!!
I pray that someday Epicurious will cover eastern indonesian dishes that almost nobody know about it even indonesian itself
เห็นแล้วหิวว
อาหารไทยอร่อยที่สุด😋😋😋
