By Johnny Cash, of course. Performed by Carson McKee and Josh Turner. There are already a LOT of great renditions of this on YT, but it was too much fun for us not to throw our hat in the ring. Thank you so much to my Patreon supporters -- you literally made this video possible!

More like the Wholesome Prison Blues because that was just lovely
Best comment ever !!! So true !!
It would be blues then
Magic response!
“Just to watch him die” yeah real wholesome lol
Underrated comment
It must be great to be THAT good at something.
Just dropping my "I've watched this 50 times and still smile at the finale" comment here. Don't mind me. Please continue, gentlemen.
Johnny Cash is smiling now.
hahahahha good one. corpses cant smile.
+Maurice Richard you're dead too so how can you laugh?
Johnny's can
in heaven they can
There ain't no grave can hold his body down
I thought you needed to be on the Johnny Cash Diet to get those low notes. 50 years of bourbon, coffee and cigarettes.
And pills
As someone who's stuck faithfully to the Johnny Cash diet for about 10 years, I can confirm it helps lolol.
@@FloridaManRacer Can confirm
Who said that he didn't go on one?
Don't forget the kick in the chest!
I think I'm addicted to this performance. If anyone ever feels disillusioned with their guitar playing, they should be prescribed this video. It'll probably make them a bit more depressed about their own abilities (or maybe that's just me!) but it will always, always reconnect them with the pure joy of being able to play something halfway competently.
My version doesn't sound half as good (or even a quarter) but every time I sing it, this performance accompanies me in the back of my head. And we sound glorious together! Cheers boys, you make me jealous of your youth and talent, but enthused, grateful and overjoyed at the same time!
I agree with ya...The lead in the middle is perfection
Thats exactly how I feel when I'm doing Paradise. I have Josh , Carson and their friend playing backup in my head.
It's the joy that matters.
I've heard this close to a thousand times, and i still don't understand how you get that much sound and energy, from one single microphone. You two are incredible!
Same! I don’t get how they achieve that either!!!
Polar pattern
It is a VERY good microphone?
@@manaboutit1594 it's a zoom h2, not really something super unaffordable or anything
what's cool is that josh actually made a tutorial for how he sets up this exact mic on his second channel.
i got a second-hand one for like 40 bucks. i like it!
@@Dafoodmaster its a video with audio track put on ;) the microphone is unplug, its a good job guys
I don't mind the quarantine, when I can listen to this all day
your not wrong. I'm almost glad i click on interesting youtube vids
I’m about to learn their version of a great song.
Same
Then I finish & realise I'm losing my business & likely the house
Check out my band's version of this song if you have time, we recorded it with our phones from home. Search ''The Cashless Ones- Folsom Prison Blues''. :)
But I know COVID was comin'
I know I can't be free
But those essential workers keep a-movin'
And that's what tortures me
Rhythm guitar drops back at 1:09 - this is my first tell of 'real' musicians - if they know when to shut up a little and let someone else have the spotlight. Live, one mic - this is old school. Sounds great - keep it up, kids! :)
trying to grow into an all-around musician, i really appreciate my background as a band kid (specifically tuba) for teaching me this trait
I just discovered this group and their individual channels a couple days ago, and aside from their awesome general talent with each instrument, this above all impresses me. They're so selfless in their performances.
Awesome stuff. I think y'all might like my music too! Thanks for checking it out! czcams.com/channels/ute776iouHmXa60tv4gX9Q.html?
I'm always surprised to see some really amazing players who have yet to learn this. Very frustrating! I agree that this is a great tell of "real" musicians!
Sincere thanks for pointing out things those of us who don't have the music gene (but are grateful to have the musical "Appreciation" gene!) will certainly miss. I also love that there are no in-ear devices, and that Josh, who has the quieter voice, can carry a decent tune in a great variety of ranges, and sing harmonies and "back up" which I always thought was a lot more difficult. But, imho, both of these young men are spectacular talents. Love them both (and all when the case warrants - Josh doesn't hang out with any musical slouches 😉).
"They're probly smoking coffee and drinkin' a big cigar!" Oh man, thanks to Roy Clark that's how I always expect that line to go haha
This is what it's like when musicians are on the same wavelength, magic happens.
The bass strings chugging is so great in this song.
Unpersonable Me I think that’s why everyone loves it. The consistent bass string moving the song along
I’m a beginner-intermediate guitarist, and I was wondering what you meant by “chugging”. I do agree that the strong dirty bass line is what gives this such a distinctive and powerful sound, I just wonder what that word meant.
@@alildaisy2180 ask and you will receive.
It paints the picture of a train rolling over tracks. Not a technical term.
Listen to the guitar on the right from 2:00 to 2:04. The rythm/beat puffs out like a train puffing out steam.
The taps of the fast down strums throughout the song reminds me of metal wheels clicking over track sections.
The "bouncy" hammering on the 2nd string 2nd fret that starts around 0:16 makes me picture the connecting rod on the wheels of the train throwing itself around.
@@alildaisy2180 ever heard a steam driven train before? You hear the chug chug continuously.
Man! Thanks for all the info guys! That lyrical imagery is so incredible, I was just so caught up in the other cool parts of this I guess that flew over my head. Josh and Carson rock, and that’s another great example.
Thanks again!
What kinds of jerks gives these guys a thumbs down? I’ve been playing guitar for 48 years and this makes me smile! It’s great to see young, talented people playing and having a great time doing it. I guess some people are just jealous of guys with raw talent having a great time making music. Keep up the good work guys and more importantly, keep having fun!
Agreed....only Jealous no talents give a thumbs down. These guys are outstanding. 👍
Astounding, isn't it? If you don't like that, I guess you just don't like music?
Jealous punks who can't do anything else than watch videos and dislike them
bedroom philosopher
Agreed. I can’t play it that well with over 50 years of practice and this version is even better than what was released by Johnny and the Tennessee Two (as far as the guitar playing goes) and is a whole lot more fun! And that’s what it is all about in my opinion.
Carson can hit those lower notes really well. I always love the pick’n these two boys do together. Really very entertaining.👍👍🇨🇦
Johnny would be proud of you young men ! 👍👍
Somehow every song you touch turns to gold.
Even if they already were
bumfun101 they made this song a disgrace
+Alberto Melendez shut up.
thats the joy of it
Aplleking blew his blues away
These two young men make the best combination of voices and music. Niether one tries to outshine the other but, instead, they lend to each others unique sound. Why they don't have more reconition than they do is beyong my comprehension. Clearly they have earned, and should be, on their own tour. While Carson McKee can stand on his own talents without fail, as well as Josh Turner can, it is when they are together that the very best of both talents really shine and ring out clear enough to be heard as pure gold.
That was so well put. These two make me smile and warm my heart.
Here here!!!
I've been watching Josh for 10 years and Carson was with him way back as young teens making music....I imagine they go back much farther than that as life long friends. Amazing talents both of them.
what do you mean they don't have more recognition? Their videos are always viral and there are a crap ton of likes and views on this video @Mari. I think it's our self desire for external acknowledgement that gets us in trouble. These guys could just be playing for good present moment fun and having the blessings of their talents to entertain others like us. Is that not enough? All in all, I get you, they're fun as heck to watch, even compared to the ones that "seems to have more acknowledgement." I know we've all been conditioned to compare and judge but trust that it's not necessary to be better than anyone or fully acknowledge to realize that your self worth is... awesome. It has to start with you. =) I say this because I noticed you got 273 likes for this which tells me that a lot of people also are dying for acknowledgements and are spreading out that same energy that we need acknowledgement to feel "enough" about ourselves. Fuck that. You are more than enough; you too are a product of magic mah dude and dudettes.
@@danorion369 just be quiet.
I Honesty have watched this video at least a hundred times, it's my favourite rendition of the song, was also my introduction to it. Only today did I notice Josh slips up his words at the start of the third verse around 1:33 . I love when small mistakes make it through!
I grew up with that tune so I had to look up when it came out. I was born in June 1959 and it came out and 57 so I actually have known that song my whole entire life!
Thanks mom and dad, for exposing me to Johnny Cash!👍🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻💕✝️💟
the laughing at the end made me so happy
That part just cracks me up! These boys are obviously having SO much fun doing this. "Ya gotta point or it doesn't work" is absolutely priceless.
/r/contagiouslaughter
Mr. Turner killed the solo again.
Also bending those strings like they owed you money.
Excellent...
Great comment ...soooo true !!!
No way!!! This is incredible! This cover captured the spirit of Johnny Cash himself and the era of its time ! I am moved by this performance
it's been a few years and i am still obsessed with this
Two guys lost in the music of the moment. I love it and always return to it when I need a lift. ✌️
I like how happy they made the guitars this is very well done
Carson always has this smirk on his face, looks like Josh just told him a dirty joke and he's gonna burst out laughing any minute :D
Wow thanks for answering my poor joke :)
You guys are INSANELY good. Props
I love it when these guys kinda lose it in the end. Goes to show that they are havin' a really good time doin' what they do. These boys are so frickin talented it's almost scary. I don't think I've run acrossed a Josh Turner vid that I didn't like.
What amazise me is the depth and volume of music that these guys are capable of. Josh (and company) can do anything from classical and jazz to old 50's standards, folk and pop (the Frankie Vallie montage is a knockout!) from the 60's, his take on classic songs from the 70's, and then throw down their own original tunes (some written by Carson McKee) like "If I was A Fool" and "The Levee". These boys are just fantastic, in my humble opinion.
Methinks they may be sipping something that loosens them up. (2:54)
Been crying most of the day, it's been one of those days. This video instantly made me smile. Huge smile. Josh's solo, their harmonies, LOVE it
absolutely no problems with neighbors like them, even if they play in the middle of the night👍
"You gotta go for gold man.... & you gotta point when you do it!"
....has got to be on a T-shirt!
This is how music ought to be, all the time. Pure fun, pure joy. Love it
No Doubt! Pure Joy.
yesss. all those lame celebrities who literally can't sing. this is so much more fun
Yes! I'm hooked on this channel. Great talent and, like you said, "pure fun, pure joy."
Absolutely! So uplifting...
This has got to be one of my favorite covers of this song. Good job, gents.
My wife & I saw Josh & Carson do this tune as the set closer at The City Winery Loft last night (8/26/22) and they out and out CRUSHED IT.
The crowd was cheering loudly for EVERY SONG from soup to nuts, but Folsom Prison in particular brought the house down. Crowd singing and a standing O before they came out and did Angelina for an encore.
My only wish on the night: I was hoping the boys would back off the mics and let the audience sing the last chorus of FPB on our own. It might have been special.
Great job guys!!!!
“From soup to nuts” now that’s a saying I haven’t heard before, but I like it almost as much as I like this song!
The joy they have after singing this song are my music goals
Shit the joy they have WHILE they're singing it
It’s like a fusion of clark kent and john lennon with a bit of harry potter
Awesome stuff. I think y'all might like my music too! Thanks for checking it out! czcams.com/channels/ute776iouHmXa60tv4gX9Q.html?
Fernando Sosa that’s perfectly hilarious and true. Great comment!
So true
Add some Buddy Holly too
😀😀😀😀👍
This duo is the modern version of Simon and Garfunkel as well as Hall & Oats...just awesome pair...!!!
Johnny Cash is grinning at you guys !
I’m sure he approves ,his memory lives on through talented people like y’all !
Very professional
Don’t stop, you guys got a real gift !
True talent
Thanks fellows
Every time I watch this it picks me right up. Aside from the outstanding musicianship, I love the way Carson sings out of the side of his mouth and has that little smile on his face when he sings the "I shot a man in Reno" line.
The man on the left looks like Buddy Hollie. He should play some songs like Peggy Sue.
He kinda sounds like him too
Does that make the one on the right Mary Tyler Moore?
I was gunna say that
Love the way “Buddy” sings out of side of his mouth.
I thought the same thing ...Buddy the Big Bopper and Richie are all back ...and better versions of themselves.....kinda makes ya wonder don't it? 😳
We watch all Josh Turner's music since seeing this! I think he is ultra talented along with all his friends that he performs with. We are Boomers, and amazed with his choice of music. Great job Josh!!
Talent, joy and simplicity 💕
Two young guys, playing "old timey" real country music, and doing it well...there's hope yet.
Matthew Harry hell yeah 🤘🍻
Seen a young lassie in Shetland play this and sing in a night out . Since forgotten her name but she had some voice and a nice female vocalist twist to the song
1:04... the right one totally kills it. Thats an absolutly country Songs- Voice.
Like to come on and watch this every few months. One of the best covers you’ll ever hear. Pure class
Josh and Carson: Been playing and singing for 50+ years...... You got it....own it...your fans will figure it out. beware the "have a cigar, we're gonna go far!" man.....keep going it organically. It will taste sweet..
Your guys harmonies and voices are fukn superbly complimentary to each other!
was he sipping bourbon at the end there? what a legend
this song to became one of my favourite. I’m never heard this song before. thanks
Talent. Pure and unadulterated talent.
Hes Hard learn not talent
Johnny Cash would put a like to this.
The juice glass the guy on the right, takes a sip from at the very end is the best. That’s the glass of a disciplined man of moderation. A lifestyle that affords the time and focus to focus on thousands of hours practicing guitar and singing ...
well, that just blew my blues away. top notch
It's so fantastic to hear you "young guys" sing all kinds of "standards". First of all, you are excellent singers and musicians. Secondly, you are keeping important songs alive.
Still my most favourite stays "Dont think twice its alright". I just have the goose on my skin when Im listening to it.:)
Agreed! Amazing!
Kristian Torlakov that's beastiality
If this isn't a "faith in humanity restored" video, I don't know what is.
Nice comment . . .
I must have seen this video 20 times - and I always crack up with laughter at the ending - it is great to see how good they are, and how much fun they have.
me too
mr cash is smiling to you from heaven guys !!
I love the energy of these one-shot videos
3 years later...I still enjoy watching this!
BRAVO! Great playing, sung naturally, not trying to imitate Cash, just fantastic.
Outstanding guys!!!
I love love love how they laugh and act all silly like best buddies having a good time
Am I the only one, who listens more to the cover than the original? It's just fantastic!
This cover actually blows my blues away
Unliked it so I could like it again - Josh, Carson, thanks for making this wonderful space on the internet! Wish I knew you guys in person so I could come hang whenever you were jamming! Keep up the awesomeness
1:34 Josh realizes Carson messed up the lyrics
Alexander Lee. I saw that too
Johnny and my Grandfather were very close friends for 50 years or so, and I can say without a doubt if he is looking down he'd get a kick out of you boys!

Awesome talent , both vocally and instrumental ! Love these young guys !
This song needs you both wearing all black, show some respect! Love it, keep playing

Not a lot of people know that!!

I'd have said Buddy Holly.
dude.. just dude.. what the heck was that?????? that's is way beyond awesome!!!!
Talent,,,,,talent,,, more talent thanks yall..
these two are quite literally, lightning in a bottle.... just wow
i love how this guys have fun, this is what music supposed to be
I love these guys especially when they work together.
You Guys blow me away, Love it.
That’ll get the digits heated up. Ready to rock!
The guitaring and the vocal harmonisation and the seconds....reminds of S&G ...keep it up.
I am 60 and this performance gives me hope that good music is here to stay.
God Bless you both.
Love that deep voice, dang it's hard to reach these kinda low notes :/
No, performing magic has gotten a little harder since I was trapped in a painting.
I'm surprised you haven't manipulated your way out of it yet.
Im crying
I've always been able to hit those notes, but fuck me if I try to reach a high note
John Doe same here
OMG!!! That put a serious smile on my face!!!

Ya they are good. I'm sure you heard it already, but their version of "Take it Easy" is really good, how I ended up finding them. Slight country sound, but it fits.

"Stuck in the MIDDLE" ... "Crazy"...
"Don't Think Twice"...etc...all sooo good !!!
The reason I listen to THIS rendition of this song is because Carson sings the first line in key before the song starts. I love singing this song, but I start too low and lose it when the whistle goes to San Antone.... Thanks for posting this and I'll be back a thousand more times.
Pure to toe-tapping, desk slapping music and have to say point to the sky and laugh out loud along with you both. BRILLIANT
lmao . this is the true spirit of enjoying music and having fun!
Johnny, if he could see this, would be laughing and smiling!
Great job boys!
The laughing at the end was great. Love it .
Smiling throughout the video, harmonizing, and the overall vibe makes this the happiest most upbeat cover of this song I've ever heard. Everyone tries to sound like Johnny Cash when covering this, which is super underwhelming compared to the OG track, but they really did something special with it.
You guys absolutely killed this cover. Much from a lad stuck in Folsom, CA
I can't stop listening to this! I got the audio from Patreon, converted to mp3, and listened to it 176 times today while I was at work.
You listened to it for 8 hours 48 mins non-stop? Nae worries.
