Good questions. Defining hate speech is subjective, and more importantly could change from day to day. What is not considered hate speech today could in fact be in 10 years. And honestly this isnt a left or right issue as both sides should be concerned about this.
Hate speech is only subjective to those who project it and try to defend their prejudices as 'free speech'. Is what's being said attacking, dehumanizing, degrading, or harassing any person(s), groups, or minorities? Does it use abusive, dishonest/deceitful propaganda, belittling, or hateful rhetoric? Or, on the other side of things, does it promote one group as superior, genetically pure, etc as all others? (ie the aryan race).
If that's too complicated, dumb it down to: live your own life and don't be an asshole.

Hate speech is subjective in nature. Your definition of what constitutes hate speech might be different than mine. People are worried about how an ideology or sub-culture could silence the voice of the majority. This is a step down the road to censorship and free speech rights taken away from the individual. Isn't this what the Nazis did to their people? Why would we want this here?
Balance and common sense is what's needed. Like giving people power/authority, sure they can have it but they shouldn't be free from facing the consequences for misusing and/or abusing it. Allowing open season free speech without conscience or consequence is what gives hate groups, like nazi-wannabes, their platform and influence. By standing by, doing or saying nothing while citing "but it's their free speech" is what enables and empowers them. Drawing a line and saying there are limits and consequences for those who abuse their rights to harm others, allows a civilized and intelligent society to keep hate groups, like nazi-wannabes, in check and prevent that kind of scenario.
Saying hate speech is subjective and my definition may be different than yours is like saying assault is subjective and your definition may vary. Assault: physical contact which harms another. Hate Speech: speech (verbal, written, other) which harms and/or dehumanizes a marginalized group or minority. Hate speech is not free speech. There is no cutting hairs when it comes to persecuting and harming others. Other countries, like Canada, do not have a 1st Amendment yet citizens still have a voice.
Inciting violence, threatening to murder someone is not protected as free speech. Is that not censorship by your definition? Or do you agree that there should also be a common sense line drawn with reasonable consequence? Just as there is for inciting violence or uttering threats.
Bad question. As Cruz puts it, time is a sensitive matter, and that is a broad-subjective fkn question that can go on for hours. The committee needs to ask valuable questions about Facebooks private and public online security and how it can change. Zuckerberg isn't the google search bar.
