- Season 1 of XDefiant was meant to nerf Dedsec's Spiderbot ability but it turns out, the nerf didn't apply properly and they also accidentally removed the most viable counter which effectively buffed it. Today I wanted to share exactly what happened and what the devs intend to do to fix this in the near future and beyond. What are your thoughts on the current state of the Spiderbot in XDefiant?

Anyone else think the Intel suit needs to be only for the player, and not highlight for the whole team?? It's so annoying as soon as it says i'm exposed, i get lit up by anyone in the vicinity lol

For real. If anything the spider bot is a decent counter to all the Intel suit players & their teammates who get wall hacks. Remove both from the game but I think the spider is needed. All these sweats complaining about dying from the spider a few times a match yet their whole team can go on multi kills from wall hacks lol
Its like everyone getting a Orbital VSAT/Blackbird in cod every certain amount of seconds. Except everyone gets access to it. 💀

They need to make it so you can push a button before it jumps on you so you can catch it and crush it. And have it be a quick window so if you miss it you’re screwed and if you’re quick enough you don’t get destroyed
Technically this is a thing already with the melee button, but the timing is very difficult and even if you hit it, you're locked into the melee animation and are probably gonna lose the gunfight to the person who threw it.
@@BigDeepz I know but I’m saying have there be a square icon pop up and if you hit it in time it stops it and if you miss the window you get screwed. It’s all about finding the TIMING
Also half the time the bot comes from behind or you see it only a millisecond before it latches on.
And even then, looking down and shooting it also puts you a massive disadvantage

I had a game last night where I felt like I spent more then half the game with the bot on my face. It was out of hand
I agree with you Ace. The spiderbot is fundamentally bad because of the imbalanced annoyance of the victim compared to the lack of fun for the owner.
My thoughts exactly. Annoying to play against, not very fun to use, and not even useful tactically. Was playing zone control the other day and tried sending my spiderbot down the right lane of the map. It just took a hard left and ran around randomly.
I've won a lot of 3-man fights by dropping a spider bot as I get flanked.
This is literally bo4 and the prophet drone all over again 😂 they should’ve released it with a button press to counter it imo
Exactly!!!! IDK how they are screwing up with the spiderbot when something like it has existed in an FPS before and was a huge issue.
There are alot of abilities that resemble BO 4 again. The sticky bomb (battery), scan ability (Recon), Flashbang (Ajax) Bouncing Better (Nomad's variation of a mesh mine), Spider (Prophet's seekers) and Libertad healing (Crash)
The thing is, you just ran Tac Mask to deal with that because it auto-pressed the qte button press if it got you. There's no Tac Mask in this game, and the only way to get rid of the Spiderbot is to either shoot it before it gets you, pray to god one of your teammates has a functioning brain and shoots it off you, or melee it which is unreliable because the melee just does not seem to work right either due to the state of the netcode or because of the way player collision functions. I get the idea they're going for with it, but yeah things that take player agency away just never work about because they don't feel fun to deal with.

Everyone hated Prophet's Shock Drone in BO4. They must've been higher than my ping to think this was a good idea.
One very effective counter is Firebomb. If you see a Spiderbot coming, activate Firebomb and (assuming your timing is good) you're near guaranteed to get it off you or even kill it before it gets you.
Hijack is a way better counter.
I’m convinced people just don’t know how to play the game. There are so many counters.
I think in the beginning or an in-game update of XDefiant, there was a "bug" where the spiderbot only shocks you near your toes instead of blocking your entire face. Imo it was only the best way to counter it near your toes while shocking you. I either had to take the shock damage and hipfire my enemy or shoot the bug and stand my ground. I don't see why the spiderbot HAS to block your face.
Dedsec + Hijacked is slept on fr. You can flip spider bots and mag barriers, cool down is quick and you have tactical resupply every 15 seconds. Honestly a very strong set up. Pushing points when a wall goes down and being able to hijack is so good and really fucks up the ops 😂
Just makes the spider bot to work like BO4's shock drone, giving a QTE prompt when the spider bot strikes, and you can try to hip fire at the bot if the QTE fails as you can't ADS (I would say letting the bot to become one hit down before it strikes, but that would make it too weak in comparison to other deployables in the current state).
Ubisoft PLEASE LET ME SAVE A WEAPON BLUEPRINT. It's insane it isn't already a part of the game
Usually i enjoy the game wether im winning or losing but the spider bot spam is just obnoxious and pathetic. The spider bot should just be removed its just a pathetic free kill for the mouth breathers 😂
It's a repeat of the Tempest drone from BO4.

Ideally the spider bot is good for messing with those who are holding down the lane, but right now it mostly becomes an annoyance for those who wants to push ahead.

I think I finally got it. If you absolutely most positively despise the spider bot and its users, you are MEANT TO BE a hacker. The satisfaction you get from killing bot users when their own spider is in their head and then teabagging them is immense. It definitely offsets the terrible frustration from those cheesy deaths that the bots cause because you simply weren't able to deal with them for various reasons at some specific moment.
As a nice bonus, you get to disable the pathetic wallhacks too if you get your ultimate. 😁
The problem with a hero shooter is that they need to limit the skill selection to only 1 per team!!
Has anyone had any frame rate issues since s1 launch. I’ve noticed I drop frames more frequently than before (I barely dropped frames all through pre-season)
I heard that was an issue on PS. Mine is running fine on Xbox

I think they should make the writings of objectives lining up more transparent.
Also the name of enemies popping up when killed should be smaller or more transparent. Sometimes I have a hard time seeing through all of this
I prefer looking down and firing to get rid of the Spider, sure it's a bug but i've got used to it, even when i know i can't do it anymore, i'm doing it instinctively.

i find it crazy that the spiderbot , that homes in and with no counterplay that pacifies whoever it jumps on even made it past playtest.
I think the way Prophets equipment abillity worked in BO4 was a perfect midway,
If that drone got to you you had a QTE to press a button weither you got it or not you would still be hindered for a moment but if you missed the QTE it would last a lot longer
I cant believe spiderbots exist in this game. Theyre not overpowered but lead to undeserved single kills. Being on the receiving end is so frustrating because like you said it interrupts the gameplay flow. I think the quicktime event is a great idea. In addition: 1) reduce the cooldown 2) make the spider a OSK or melee from any weapon 3) put all spiderbots on the map in real time, friendly and enemy, so it makes the user to think when using the ability and also lets the person on the receiving end know where the spider is so they can properly prepare for an encounter
deadsec also refreshes lethals over time so you can use emp on a cooldown of sorts

How do we get these calm lobbies? I have buuny rabbits and kangaroos constantly. I would also like to know how your screen is not cluttered. I have so many things showing on a hud that it is distracting
He probably just plays a lot and uses the most entertaining gameplay. If he plays like 20 matches, he will have a couple of chill lobbies to use for gameplay.
It's a time of day and weekday thing. Late afternoon, evenings, and weekends will be full of jumping monkeys and cheaters.
See other replies. Maybe PC/console difference as well? Generally PC players move a lot more and jump/strafe etc.
This is one instance where Rubin isn’t reading the room correctly. The community hates the spider bot and it almost universally causes frustration - so why in the world keep it?
Because soon we will see the flaws with the rest of the abilities imo xdefiant would’ve been better if they had no abilities
It's honestly not that big of a deal, just shoot it or run a bit and then shoot. Or use EMP, hack etc. Almost all the abilities are free kills if you use them right, even more than just the one kill you could get with spiderbot. If you use the wallhack/scan appropriately that can net you several kills almost guaranteed. Same with a good placed shield to catch people off guard = multi kill.
It's not too strong, it's simply not fun to play against.
The spider drone is too op and needs a nerf immediately. Not being able to shoot it of your face is ridiculous
The mag barrier cool down is too long now, for objective game modes it takes way to long to recharge. It was fine the way it was previously
The frame rates on ps5 make the game unplayable
There's also some weird sensitivity/ firing delay issue going on when you ADS ( at least that's the case on ps5 anyway)
Game in its current state, is infuriating, I'm not spending another second on this game until these issues are fixed.
Also its all well and good Mark coming on twitter and being open and honest, but wtf are the QA team over at Xdefiant doing. Like how is stuff being pushed to production unintentionally, i mean they accidentally released a map too early, and they seem to consistently be releasing code which they werent meant to. That is seriously poor from whoever is QAing and pushing things to production for such a massive game.

They're messing up a lot in S1. I was using the Spiderbot yesterday to finish my final faction challenge. After the update, the cooldown timer didn't run for 40s. It ran for 25, TWICE, before I could use it again. I'd watch it count down to 0, only to see it start over at 25 instead of going active. I also, apparently, couldn't use it unless I was holding my tongue right or something. It would just buzz at me instead of deploying until I moved to a different spot. And then it would JUST EFFING STAND THERE sometimes, like it was contemplating the universe. And that's just the bot. The sniper flinch isn't a thing. I shoot a guy in the face with an M-16, all three headshots, I get one-shotted right after. The jumping monkeys can jump 5-6-7 times and still kill you at range. You can't shoot the bot off your face, but one melee takes care of the electrified razorwire. Apparently the block list does absolutely nothing, just like on CoD. I blocked a group of supersweats (AKA cheaters) with TTV or JTV in their names who were obviously squadded up, which I thought I wasn't supposed to have to deal with while playing solo. Twenty minutes later the same 4 guys are on my team. Oh, and you gotta pay them just to unlock the GSK major faction challenge. Forget that. Suckers paying to fully unlock is one thing. I can already see that since it's FTP they're going to nickel and dime every other little thing. I was actually enjoying the game pre-season, less than 12 hours before the update. Season 1, not so much. And WTF is this stupid Ubisoft Connect XP this popup box keeps telling me about? And how am I supposed to use it? (This is all on PS5, btw.)
Bro for the faction challenge all u have to do is activate it in ur challenge menu. Then its just earn 700k xp, similar to dead sec faction
And the ubisoft connect is full of free stuff and extra challenges, it's no big deal. Don't want free boosters and skins? Then don't use it. 😊

Edit: should also clarify to not push the "purchase with x coins" button. The other button that just says "activate challenge" is the one you want to push.
Dead sec style has the potential to have the most interesting abilities, such as the hack. I really hope spiderbot would be revamped/replaced - Frustrating to play against, not rewarding for the users and harmful to the gameplay
I feel like you should get a .5 or 1 second grace period before you get stunned when it latches on, when you can catch it with a melee. Pretty much a quick time event for it

The sentiment of "Willing to deal with things you don't like in a game." needs to be said especially with a game that openly marketed itself to CoD players paranoid about SBMM. I'm glad XDefiant is genuinely fun for people past the honeymoon phase.
I honestly would rather have the spiderbot be the DedSec ult and get disrupted every 30 seconds if we have to keep the fucking thing in the game

@@gatlin1320 My issue with 3 spiderbots is that every other ult can be countered by a single frag or sticky grenade. 3 spiderbots doesn't give you that ability outside of perfect timing, and having it in the game at all is already me being generous with the idea.
Make them hunt in a pack maybe? They could jump on one person and get the kill or if the enemy is grouped up just do a mass stunlock

Were the muzzle booster and rapid fire barrel unintentionally buffing recoil control ever fixed? It definitely increased my recoil as intended when i did controlled testing in the firing range
It depends on the gun... Some have more recoil, some less.
i use rapid fire on my ak and didn't felt any noticeable difference
I think it's fixed because I tried it on the MDR this patch and booster+rapidfire barrel doubled the recoil compared to base.
Is it just me, or is the Echelon Digital Ghillie Suit harder to spot now after the most recent update?
The spiderbot without having a quicktime button press action like BO4's tempest ability is such a major oversight. To be honest, I don't understand who thought releasing it like this was a good and fun idea.
This is broken to the point it should be disabled until properly fixed and balanced.

I would suggest to change spiderbot fundamentally, just as a shocker to the leg instead of face and then can taking it out by hitting some trigger.
Even with a bad patch this game still slaps

Unfortunately this is why there should probably be a character limit and/or cooldown's should carryover after death similar to Bo4. But since the only Perks are built into factions like cod WW2, doing so would also limit playstyle. If they add a loadout Perk option like the basic training from ww2, I feel that would help makeup for it somewhat.
If they add some button press etc it needs to be really hard to pull off. Lots of the other abilities in the game have either no counters, or barely any good ones. You're just as screwed if not more when someone puts down a shield and you loose the gunfights due to that. Or you get scanned/wallhacked and then prefired etc. Keep the possiblity of shooting it of you're face and maybe lower the cooldown to 35 seconds or smth.
Oof! Everyone was so excited for the buff that every game I played, half or more of the enemy was using them. And I think I was the luckiest on my team to get hit with all of them. It was nearly every 30 seconds. And it was a guaranteed death sentence for me, since I had no counter. With foot-step audio still being useless for me, I can't hear them or the player footsteps, so I'm just annoyed most of the time in games. But I stay because I still want to support the game and the dev team for the good they're trying to do.
i just hope the quick time event isnt also agency removing, it has to be a one hand slap while still being able to shoot
I think if the spider bot did everything except cover the face, it would be fine as is. Maybe less shock time too but you can already still shoot while it’s happening so I don’t know if that would be needed.
It needs a slight reworking but i dont find it that hard to shoot and destroy. I think making it easier to hear coming would help. But I find every ability frustrating when I'm dying to it. I think its enjoyable to figure out how to outplay the team you are against. If theyre running a bunch of spiderbots there are ways to counter it your team plays smart.
Would be cool if you could order the spider bot to stay in a designated area, giving it more of a defensive utility
That spider is much like the Black Ops 4 ability from Prophet that he will deploy the seeker mine and it will shock you but you press buttons to get the cable off you. thats the same deal with these spiders. some of the abilities we got in XDefiant are reminiscent of Black Ops 4 like Ajax's flash bang. or the sticky grenade that battery had (minus the additional clusters). All we need now is mesh mines much like Nomad. Recon's ability is already in the game with the scan suits. Tell me im wrong on these abilities being in the game in some way (mesh mine is basically the bouncing betty)

I've also noticed a bug, but abilities won't trigger either. I've tossed the bot out land it doesnt activate. This has happened on many of my other guys as well. Im not sure if this is purely latency or not but lag has felt like its been getting worse. I used to have a clean connection, 20 ping, very consistent. Now I push 50 with connection delays, frame drops, activation bugs, and worse hit reg. Its so... weird.
Me personally, I want to give everyone a hug and this is the best way. 😊

Libertad skin challenges are resetting to zero after every match. The bio thing is also becoming inactive randomly during the match. Also, I'm dying a lot more behind walls. Still getting melted it seems in many gun fights...I'm not a great player but I shouldn't die immediately when I'm hitting my shots. So frustrating.
I knew Spiderbot is rage inducing ability, I had to switch to Hijack cause of how cheesy it was
I mainly use Deadsec for counter ulti - Need a button input to just remove it, like prophet drone
Really love going on flanks as it's always been my style but people standing in spawn, throwing the bot and then running to me as I'm stunned with nothing to do
Biovida for Libertad faction is bugged where once a game it doesn't activate then won't recharge unless you switch abilities and switch back. If u don't want to run EMPs use a sticky to throw on a wall and walk near it while facing it, the spiderbot will take the damage
Dedsec is a great counter for another reason: unlimited EMP grenades. You keep getting them back with their passive

if they do the qte i hope its timing is reasonable. those spiderbots come out of nowhere. in my opinion i think having the ability to melee the bot before it jumps at you and during the effect would be better. also maybe reduce the HP of the bot so it can break in 2-3 shots and make the size of it a bit bigger too?
Which faction has the spider bot?
I think it should go all together, i understand the reason for it being in the game with it adding a layer of disruption to otherwise linear gunfights but if you see it coming towards you, you know that there is going to be an enemy waiting around the corner so they can get a free kill if you don't shoot it in time. Even with a quick time event it'll add another animation that'll probably only let you hipfire at best while you are stuck performing that animation like the shock drone in BO4, the only ability in the game i dislike

Imo spiderbot not as bad as air strafe, but I have not had the time to play season 1 yet so im not sure with the changes. Kbm ability to change direction mid air makes it super cheesy.

I think they should just change it to be a heavy slowdown in a certain area or you are stunned in place until you shoot it or it time's out. I would completely remove the whole face grabbing I would completely remove the whole face obscuring part.
So they accidentally programed a useful bug, then accidentally patched this bug and now they bring back the bug. GG😂😂
Holding a button would be more accessible to everyone and would be similar to interactions already in R6 Siege
My main issue with the spider bot is that it removes your agency BEFORE visually jumping on your face. If it paused and charged a pounce that you could sidestep or shoot it during wind up that would be fun and engaging compared to current
I like the Spiderbots. I'm a Dedsec main. To counter it they should just let you melee it own your face or off teammates face, instead of wasting bullets. Where there's no class that'll drop ammo bag to replenish ammo or 'Nades

This spider bot only exists to annoy people and half of the time the user doesn’t even take the free kill. Remove the spider bot and replace it with something that actually helps the team.
As a broader point, to my knowledge every ability for ever faction helps the users team in some way. Libertad heals, the Cleaners cleans objectives and enemy groups, Phantoms have their magwall, DeadSec can steal abilities, Echelon give their team wallhacks and the KSK lock down objectives. The closest comparison is the Phantom's shield, which at least theoretically can give teammates mobile cover and no one uses it anyway. The spider bot is a selfish ability that MAYBE gives the user a free kill, made even worse by DeadSec having a very powerful alternative ability.
If for some reason the bot cannot be removed, it should be nerfed into the ground. Keep the shooting to remove it and make it more consistent, fix the melee counter and maybe add a QTE like Black Ops 4's drone had.
spider bot is just too oppressive if you are flanking. If you turn a corner right into one you are completely screwed.. I do agree with Ace were its not so satisfying to use vs the frustration you get when that thing jumps you.
9 times out of 10 that I get hit by a spider bot, I'm already in the middle of a gun battle with someone else.
I feel bad cause I only spammed spider bot online to do the operative skin challenge, other than that I don't even really use DedSec cause spider bot and the ult is nice, but the hack is too niche
The spiderbot should attach to the player's legs instead of the face and it should only take away the ability to move quickly and aim down sights. The player should still be able to hipfire, switch weapons, reload, use abilities/equipment, and move at 1/2 their regular walking speed. They should also be able to look down and shoot the spider bot off their legs.
Alongside these changes the spiderbot should deploy similarly to how the incendiary drone deploys, going straight forward for ~15 feet. Once it reaches 15 feet or encounters an obstacle it will run around randomly like it normally does.
I believe these changes would result in a much more fun experience for everyone involved. Skilled players would be able to outplay the spiderbot and spiderbot users would have a useful tool in their arsenal to attack objectives and throw enemies off their game. As it stands currently, the spiderbot is annoying for both the user and the victim.
I'd also like to add that I don't think a quick time event is the answer here. Players would still be left defenseless once that spiderbot is on their face and with the net code in this game I don't see a quick time event being a consistent counter.
I think a skill check similar to dead by daylight would be a good way to deal with it. Hit the skill check it comes off. Miss the skill check and it stays on. That way both sides have the chance of things going how they want
They also need to remove the fact that it does damage. It sucks when I’m on like Arena, Dumbo, or even Pueblito or Clubhouse, close quartered maps. I turn a corner kill someone and turn the next corner with low health and have a spider bot suck my soul and then I get triple teamed by sweats. It’s so inconsistent and unnecessary. Game needs more BALANCE
The deadsec hack is sort of a god send against spider bots at the moment but is sometimes inconsistent with tagging them.

My way to destroy the bots was to shoot straight down right before it hits my face . Or I’d shoot in front of the spider so like shoot in front not at it . Always works . Only had a few times it not take any hitmakrers etc
Glad they fixing that now if we can just get the intel suit to just work for the one person instead of the whole team lol
They need to nerf continous bunny hops and the phantoms health still. I played a team of phantoms and that's all they were doing was spamming the bunny hop with no penalties.
We need a faction cap asap , max 2 players using same faction .

Spider Mine should be reworked to be a stationary mine, to turn it into an anti rushing area denial ability, instead of just a random free kill.

I'm running Hijack lol. Reversing Spiderbots back and reversing shields. Just wish I could hack intel suits
