- Hi guys!
In this video I restore an old German oil lamp, marked Feuerhand model Baby Special 276.
I bought this object in the flea market in my city, just after the lockdown in March, along with many other beautiful things that I can't wait. to fix.
I moved my small restoration workshop to the city where I live, so that I can devote myself more frequently to making videos.
The lamp was in good condition, just a lot rusty and with a few dents.
After having disassembled it and removed the excess rust with the wire brush, I proceeded to a long sandblasting of all its parts. Before painting it I applied a few coats of enamel fixative, with a filling effect on small imperfections. I then painted all the pieces with a moss green spray paint, rated RAL6005, or British racing green color, which drives me crazy!
Once everything was perfectly dry, I reassembled all the pieces and filled the tank with bioethanol.
The lamp works perfectly!

See you soon!
Excellent work and a beautiful lamp as a reward!
Thats a nice Feuerhand lamp there. it is one that would have been used for illuminating roadworks at night time to warn drivers. that is why it has a bigger tank than normal, so it could be left for long periods without needing to be refilled..I have a nice little Feuerhand Superbaby 175 which is smaller, in very good condition. they also made an even smaller one, called the Atom 75, but they are very rare and expensive if you find one. greetings from Australia. 🙂
Thanks for watching the video! Greetings from Italy 😀😀😀
@@abracadabrarestoration5561 Your'e welcome 🙂
Came out BEAUTIFUL ! Glad you saved it from rusting away.
Thank you!
A great, instructive video.
Lotsatrains is correct. The correct fuel is kerosene ( Paraffin) or lamp oil. They still make these brand new & the warning on the box states never t use anything else. It'll be much safer & run better too. Well done , looks nice.
Thanks:))
Nice job! Interesting to see that tank extension on the Baby Special 276.

Lol enigma 😂😂😂😂
😂👍🏻😂👍🏻😂👍🏻😂
Wrong fuel for that lantern for sure you should use kerosene or lamp oil not wax based.
Thanks for your advice...next time I will use lamp oil!
Manufacturer recommends to use only paraffin oil for lamps
@@helgetippmann paraffin is kerosene in the UK and either is totally fine to use in that lamp

Great video and good work. But a few questions.
Is the paint good enough to take the heat?
What did you run it on? Looked very volatile. Try paraffin or lamp oil.
Try trimming the wick. Just cut about 3mm off the corners.
Yes, the paint take the heat for now…I will try with paraffine soon, thanks for the advice!
Nice video, but the cotton should not be in the tank. And it normally runs on paraffine. Looking foward for new videos
1 - there is several types of fuel you can burn in these lamp. some are better than others, some produce less smell, soot , ect.
2 - if the cotton is NOT in the tank.... how exactly do you expect it to wick fuel?
@@JohnDoe-qf1ur
You put some felt beneath the wick. So the wick is longer.
Thanks for your advice! I’ll try again if I will find a new lamp.
MAybe electric is the best solution :)
Yes it should be. normally for this type of Feuerhand lantern with the big tanks, that wool felt is wrapped around the wick and pushed up into that long silver tube. it helps to keep the wicked soaked in fuel when it starts getting low in the tank, and stops the wick getting dry and burning out. I know , because I own a couple myself.
