Metro Transit: We Are On Dakota Land

Aboard a bus covered in Dakota artwork, a group of adult learners recently visited several sites to learn more about their place in Native history, including an overlook where the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers converge, where women and children were held captive following the U.S.-Dakota War.
There and at other points along the way, guides passed down wisdom from their ancestors and their own lived experiences and spoke about the importance of acknowledging events that are relevant but often overlooked.
Among those who led the tour was artist Marlena Myles, whose artwork adorns the bus that inspired the tour and led earlier this year to a special connection with a bus operator who came to cherish his Native heritage later in life.
